Great video as usual! Always love it when you both collaborate. I also enjoyed seeing the episode that led to the gifting of what was left of the Ten to One rum!!
The best daiquiri I've had was at Temple Court in New York, made with Ten to One and Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. I'd love to try to recreate it at home but unfortunately Ten to One doesn't seem to be available around me.
I had the pleasure of doing a rum tasting with the Holmes Key folks last week, and along with the Grand Arome, the Fiji was my favorite. I just ordered a few bottles of it from them, and am eagerly awaiting delivery so I can try it out in a Daiquiri!
I’ve been waiting for this one ever since the last video! Such a fun series and love seeing the collabs with Arminder. I snagged bottles of Banks and Ten to One (already have Probitas) to play along. Still hunting for the others.
I was able to pick up a bottle of Probitas and Ten to One. I enjoyed both in a Daiquiri. I felt the Probitas came across a little more balanced. I look forward to experimenting with them in other templates.
Really glad you guys showcased Ten to One! I had never heard of them until I picked up a bottle last weekend at a brand showcase here at a local store and I was so impressed. The rep there was very kind and transparent and said the Jamaican portion comes from WP and Moneymusk, aged on site. As of yesterday I think it might’ve dethroned Probitas as my go to daiquiri!
Okay, so… I love this video. I love Derek. And I love Arminder. They are my two favorite rum people on TH-cam. I love the blind tasting template for a video. I think y’all should keep doing this and eventually pull all the winners from all the videos and have an ultimate daiquiri rum-off. I love the time that Derek takes to explain his thoughts. I love that Arminder is willing to acknowledge the “power of suggestion,” as he puts it. The cinematography and music are outstanding, as always. Basically, y’all are living the dream. And, as I acquire more rum bottles myself, I find myself wanting to make similar videos. Tonight, I tasted almost all of the Barbados rums I have with a dear friend who is a brewer of beer and judges many beer competitions. His quickness in picking up notes of the rums I poured reminded me of Arminder in his tasting videos. Rum is… fun. Thanks, Derek and Arminder. I love y’all.
Fun Video ❤ I definitely need the Equiano now if I didn’t after your first light rum daiq video. The Fiji is way up there for me. Definitely buttery. I’m trying to remember if I’ve tried the other rum that you (well, Arminder) spoke highly of here. 😅
I put 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup demerara sugar into a bullet blender to make a daiquiri powdered sugar- I tried 1 tsp, 2 tsp, and 3tsp/1tbsp- the sweetness/balance just wasn’t there. I made with same rum, same lime, and 1/2 oz of 2:1 sugar syrup- perfect. Am I messing something up? Still loving these colabs with you and Arminder!
This is great! I've seen the Ten To One here locally and wondered if it was any good. I'll have to try a bottle to see how it compares to Plantation 3-Stars in a daiquiri. It's pretty affordable here ($33).
I see there are two rums I'll be picking up. I'll grab the Holmes Cay when I get back to NY in July. Once I find the Equinos, I'll definitely pick it up.
I wish I could love rum like K love amazing high end single malt scotch! I’ve tried! If you like smoke and rum I highly recommend trying the Lagavulin Offerman 11 Edition 4!!! Rum calling!!! Delicious!! I enjoy Probitas! Cheers! Plantation - the very high ABV expression is delicious! Many are! Cheers!! Great video!!
Hi Derek, how about a aged gold rum comparison ? ( maybe with Arminder :) ) Say between Denizens Merchant, Appleton 8, Smith & Cross and something else. The blind taste tests uv done are extremely helpful. I trust ur opinion :)
The Death & Co reference I totally share - it was my first “real” cocktail book and it gave Banks a big place in the pantheon of rum. Maybe a bit bigger than deserved, but it’s not bad :-)
Since this series is continuing, should we all pitch in and get Derek a set of "caviar chiller" style glasses that rest in a bed of ice to avoid the dreaded rapidly warming daiquiri problem? 😆
I like Probitas but it’s always struck me as blander than its reputation suggests. This video reinforced that conclusion. I’m a Rum Fire guy, to provide a little context.
I would have laid money on Probitas walking away with the the win, so I’m somewhat surprised by the result. I had Ten to One once, in a daiquiri made in the Delta Lounge in Nashville. Against all odds, being a lounge bar, it was fantastic but I chalked it up to time/place. It’s up next for sure. Will you guys do a flavor bomb one next? Thinking Rum Fire vs Le Rocher vs Eleve Sous Bois, for starters.
Picturing Derek laying on the floor tossing bottles in the air.
Maybe it was a lot more high tech than that
@@makeanddrinkah i see. Okay, picturing Derek laying on the floor tossing bottles in the air… while wearing an Apple Vision Pro.
@@makeanddrink Maybe 😊Possible? Sure. Probable?
This intro was filmed after the tasting, right?
I like when you two collaborate
Great vid! The power of double blind tasting (Arminder) always produces interesting results...more of this pls
Longer form videos from you are just what I needed!
By the way, I love your shirt!
Glad you like them!
Definitely do this every six months or so.
This series is great. Please do a dark rum and ovenproof video as well. Thank you.
23:20 "You're worth it"
Well said...! ❤❤
Two of my favorite channels on TH-cam!
Samesies!
Great video as usual! Always love it when you both collaborate. I also enjoyed seeing the episode that led to the gifting of what was left of the Ten to One rum!!
I'd like to say I'm just nice but I only gifted it because I had a spare
Uh oh, there’s another video I need to watch, apparently. Can one of y’all link it?
The best daiquiri I've had was at Temple Court in New York, made with Ten to One and Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. I'd love to try to recreate it at home but unfortunately Ten to One doesn't seem to be available around me.
Always love when Sam the Eagle visits Make the Drink.
Thanks for the tasting fellas :)
OMFG yes, that is a SPOT ON reference!
@@GeeWhizbang No offense meant to Arminder, it’s terrific!
Was coming to comment how Arminder sounds a bit like Sam the Eagle or maybe even Harold Ramis, which are two amazing voices I love!

I thought at first the bar was haunted ... but then I figured it must have been the spirits! ; )

I think it's more potent than Probitas, but not sure if outside of this setting I've ever tried them alone side by side.
Quickly becoming the best tiki/rum cocktail channel on TH-cam alongside @therumrevvial
Derek and Arminder rule RumTH-cam.
Nice vid! You guys should host a hangout/event in the Bay one of these days, can bring some of my rum as well!
Sounds like a party
Yes, please! I will drive there from Salt Lake! I grew up in Vacaville.
So glad you’ve had Arminder on. I’ve watched your videos since getting into tiki and he’s got some great stuff. Wouldn’t have found him without you!

Looks like YT flagged this comment because they thought is was spam. You're supposed to disclose your affiliations when working as a brand ambassador.

Fun video! Guyana, of course-not an island. 🇬🇾

It's going to be intense compared to 3-Stars or any other similar rums. I find it a few steps up from Probitas

i'd love see what british rums you guys can get in these categories, see how they compare for you both
Did you really toss those bottles ? Living on the edge ^^
Need to try Equiano & 10to1 now
I'll never tell
Ten To One white is surprisingly good and a slam dunk for funk fans. I’ve never tried their dark.
Ten to One white is great. I used to do Probitas, but TtO is often cheaper and I like it more.
Don't really see any of these in Australia. Easy to get here Barcardi, Havana Club, Plantation, Buckeye, Santissima. Thoughts ?
Need a part 2!

Brace yourself
Went to a 10 to one tasting on Saturday. The Jamaican is from Worthy Park according to the brand manager who was running the tasting, Evan Christy.
The Death & Co reference I totally share - it was my first “real” cocktail book and it gave Banks a big place in the pantheon of rum. Maybe a bit bigger than deserved, but it’s not bad :-)
Probably fitting for the times
Guyana is mostly mainland
Guyana is mostly rum

That’s a good idea!
But I think for the next few months we’ll be changing out the cocktail to one with ice.
where does one get powered bar sugar? regular powdered sugar contains corn starch, that wouldn’t be good in a cocktail
guyana isn't an island...
Very good idea. If we follow we get a good impression what works well in what cocktail without developing our own palate 😂
I tried Ten to One but I swear it wasn’t “funk” but it is a bad batch something. Tasted like an ethanol or something.
It's different. I'm not the biggest fan of it but people who want high funk in this category will love it.
Guayana is not an island! Haha!!
I love these videos!
I can just see STB giving his own recommendations on ones to try next.
Ten to One gang!
I like Probitas but it’s always struck me as blander than its reputation suggests. This video reinforced that conclusion. I’m a Rum Fire guy, to provide a little context.
Guyana might as well be an island due to how transportation works there...
Derek, try tasting cocktails in the dark. Very different.
I'm good
Guyana!
Staten Island 😂
Guyana was the right answer 🇬🇾
Btw do you know the story behind why Probitas is called Veritas in other sides of the world?
I believe it's just a trademark issue in the US
