Great episode again guys. Was extremely enjoyable to have an in depth dive into the scrub Pythons and you picked an excellent guest to share that with us. Just a quick point for the listeners: the Oenpelli Python is not included in the genus Simalia (Scrub Pythons). They currently occupy their own genus "Nyctophilopython" also called "Nawaran". The entire group (Simalia and Nawaran/Nyctophilopython) is closely allied with the genus Morelia.
Great episode. Discovered Your podcast a while back and have been listening to Steven talking Scrubs for years so this combo was 10/10 :) I was a Burm and Retic guy 20-25 years ago but changed direction due to the trouble of keeping them the correct way. Even though its not for me its pleasing to see what you are doing for "the big snake community" and Im still like child about these giants, their locality data and everything else around them. Have a good one chaps and again thanks!
I remember some Kinghorni being around back in the early 90's. I guess nobody stuck with them. Reptile Gardens are the only ones with them now? Wow, I forgot about Reptile Gardens. The only time I went there was in 73. I went on a cross-country drive with my uncle. There was Odd-even gas rationing happening at the time. Reptile Gardens had a giant dome room with trees and snakes crawling around loose, birds flying. They also had vending machines. You put a quarter in, a chicken came out and shot baskets with a ping pong ball or played you a game of tic tac toe. Overall, I didn't like the place and never wanted to go back, And never did. The locality thing, there is so much locality nonsense in the trade. Then you throw in all the crap science that goes on with taxonomy. And things get even more mixed up. Pro-tip, when a taxonomist gets a grant to study something. They absolutely must somehow, someway find something, anything, No matter how insignificant or speculatory to reclassify something. So they can publish and request another grant. Before "shows" existed, there was the International Herpetological Symposium (IHS). The place where Herpetology and Herpetoculture would meet and exchange the most up-to-date info and education. There was supposed to be no selling, but people would wheel and deal in their hotel rooms. Bob Clark made so much money at one of these things he needed to put on an athletic supporter before trying to pick up his wallet. Forums, I was on board with the forums from day one. Kingsnake was the place. Lots of stuff would get deleted. There were always flame wars, and bad information being dished out by the resident forum "experts." Lots of crap went on. The birth of social media kicked off the great misinformation age.
So you just skipped over your mentor Forrest Fanning? No mention of Forrest seems crazy to me. I miss him so much and I didn’t even know him as well as you did.

Nice. Scrub pythons have definitely been growing on me. Saw some in Arlington and drooled. Ha ha.
I got to experience some with Blake Wilson a couple years ago there, got to handle them and can’t lie it got me interested!!!
