I've been using Vitamin on pretty much every mix since I got my first Waves bundle over a decade ago. I'm always surprised people don't mention it more. It literally feels like cheating when use it. It makes mixes just come alive and balanced. I actually usually start with the low end and work my way up, rather than top down. I find the high too harsh sometimes. The mids are really where this shines. The width feature is really the hidden gem though. That thing makes mixes 3D, and really opens them up. Used just right it can add so much more room and air to a busy or stuffy mix.
I love this plugin, I use it often. I've used it on a mastering chain before, never as a final output, but it really helps flatten and saturate high-dynamic ranges so they can be heard smoothly on a range of playback devices. I usually use it to take away sharpness in the high end, and to add muscle to low mids. I'll also often use it on my 808 sub chain in parallel - I'll usually leave the low and lo mid bands on solo and saturate the hell out of them, then run that through another parallel send into Max Bass. The original sub is low passed, the Vitamin channel is band passed and the Max Bass channel is high passed. Vitamin is one of those plugins that is just powerful unto itself, its easy to overthink this plugin but its really just multi-band saturation... which is awesome...
Something unexpected from a recent project. In a previous mix, around halfway through I used Vitamin on the master bus, to help mono lower frequencies and shape width. By the time I bypassed Vitamin, all of the individual channels and buses sat where I wanted them to, and removing Vitamin made almost no difference - in a good way, as it sounded great! - other than the "clean" mix sounded more open. Hence, it's also useful as a mix draft guide, and save the final yards for the mastering engineer.
The real advantage of Vitamin is that it's zero latency. So many times, the stuff you want to put on your mixbus to sweeten sound adds a lot of latency, so you have to wait til you're done tracking your software instruments to put that stuff on, all the time suffering with a somewhat dull and suboptimal sound. Vitamin lets you have your cake and eat it, since the zero latency means it doesn't interfere with tracking.
Great! Thanks for sharing. I’ve always liked using this on individual sources like electric guitar but never thought to use it on the mix bus. If you’re also using compression, would you put it before or after this plug-in ? Would love to hear your recommendation. Thanks! Cheers.
I use a tilt filter, for a better balance, a maag eq or tone boosters maag eq preset make the hi and shine. I always use midsize eq, that's very useful for lower the amount of reverb. I like the vitamin not on my masterbus. Its in my opinion to much, and to easy. It is perfect for individual tracks
Plugin presets are great starting points BUT with Vitamin I do recommend dialling in from scratch because it really is that easy to get great sounding results from flat settings
Brilliant video, Dan. Thank you. Need to fire up Vitamin right away! One question though: What would be the order of preference in the mix/master chain?
I been trying to used this plugin for years but it’s so dangerous to the whole mix. It’s a thin line between great and over done with this plugin. I love the plugin but I honestly can say to use it with moderation
Quick question I've notice that on a aux vocal send track the meter volume and peak indicater changes For example I will record in at about 10 db and rout 2 or more tracks to a aux send know in my mind I thought I would expect to see the aux send hitting at the same level 10 db but this is not always the case So I guess my question is at what level should a vocal bus volume indicater be at before processing with plugins such as dynamics
Hi there. Vitamin is a multiband harmonic enhancer and tone-shaping plugin. C6 is a multiband compressor plugin. Our suggestion is demo the two and see which one works best for your needs.
You’re not doing a leveled volume comparison. The plugin is nice but when you level everything back out you’ll realize it’s not THAT big of a difference.

If you find the highs are too harsh try adjusting the crossover between HIMID and HI up so that you only add or enhance airy sounds with the HI band
I never really got the hang of this plugin before. This video is useful to understand it better 👍🏻
Same-- thanks!

I love this plugin so much, I use it on vocals and instrument groups also. It brings such warm and pristine character to my mix ✅✅✅
Thanks Dan! As always, easy, concise, and to the point!!
Thanks bro, and thank you for your commenting on my videos. I really appreciate your support!

I'll try Vitamin on my next mix. I usually use Maag EQ 4 for shelving top end or Clariphonic DSP mid side processing.
I love my daily Vitamin. Awesome plugin!
I love these videos. Finally a clear video explaining how to use this!!
This is an amazing plugin. Correct me if I am wrong but there is Compression & Saturation under the hood so more input you give more process you get,.
700th thumbs up :D Great video, I've had Vitamin in the toolbox for years and have never got it out! Will be using it more now!
Great video, thanks Dan.. keep doing more please 🤓🍿
Great video would love to see videos like this on all Waves Plugins! :)

Vitamin is fantastic plugin!! C6 helps me too.
One of my top 10, no doubt!
Great video! What is the name of the second song (with no lyrics)? Thank you
Just got this last night and can see where I can use it in my post production/mastering atages
I assume the right location for this plug-in is very last just before the limiter?
“This’ll make you sound radio station sticky fr, Vitamin’s got that secret stuff. Top 3 best plug ins on the market, hands down.” -Rey

Vitamin is great, I use it nearly always in my masterbus. But sometimes I got better results with Izotope Ozone Enhancer.
Very helpful video , I’ve been using the punch wrong
Lovely guy you are. always with amazing tricks ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wondering if I can use this Plugin for a stereo track and give it some BALLS ?😁🤟
Great! Thanks for sharing. I’ve always liked using this on individual sources like electric guitar but never thought to use it on the mix bus. If you’re also using compression, would you put it before or after this plug-in ? Would love to hear your recommendation. Thanks! Cheers.
Before compression, but that’s my preference. Thanks for commenting
@@dancooperwaves3685 thank you for taking the time!! Love your work with Waves and the videos.

Interesting plugin. Where would you put it in the mastering chain? In what position? I suppose after eq and compression, isn t it so?
Depends on your mix and what you want to do with Vitamin.
Thanks Dan.....is this plugin useful on individual track and mix buses or just the master bus
Thanks, presets never seem to fit the tracks I work on but will defo try adding this slower to see if it works better that way.
Plugin presets are great starting points BUT with Vitamin I do recommend dialling in from scratch because it really is that easy to get great sounding results from flat settings
Can you please say the difference between after and before adding vitamin plugin. I can't understand. Please explain
This one is great for really bright keys, doesn't add sheen plus it makes it nice and warm.
Brilliant video, Dan. Thank you. Need to fire up Vitamin right away! One question though: What would be the order of preference in the mix/master chain?
Good question! I like Vitamin early in the chain
@@dancooperwaves3685 Okay, thank you for the suggestion. :)

What about parallel processing the signal
The plugin based around parallel processing. Use the DIRECT and MASTER faders to balance the wet to dry
Really Awesome
thanks so much
ok i'll try..thanks
Ok I’m sold again... I hate waves😭 my poor money🤣🤣
If we say that the demo sounds much better and natural dry?
What's the name of the 1st song!!!?????
The one saying "Breath of fresh air "
It's so freaking good!!??? 😳
Interesting, I’m thinking of getting it. But is it overlapping functions if I already own Scheps Omni Channel strip, and the TG mastering? Thanks
Yes!
This, pusher, or Max volume?
I always use this plugin. Great for highs.
بونكوراج كمل ❤️
i guess to achieve the same goals on a mixbus, I use gulfoss. I use waves PS22 split to spread the high frequencies. Or sometimes I use Expanse.
I love this bro 🔥🔥🔥😈🔥😈🔥😈
My sweetening..SSL FUSION!

Powerful plugin
How Can i find this on ur website for m'y Windows 8 , thank.
the xovers cause way too much phase shift :/ wish there was a way to toggle linear-phase or hybrid
Some needs to buy Kevin Shirley one of these so the Maiden albums won't sound so flat.
Whats the difference between this Sonic Enhancer and Waves C6?
Hi there. Vitamin is a multiband harmonic enhancer and tone-shaping plugin. C6 is a multiband compressor plugin. Our suggestion is demo the two and see which one works best for your needs.
I use api-550
nice
is it C4 Stereo?
who sings the "Fresh Air Song"?
I need to know as well
❤️❤️❤️
Give us that V13 with M1 native support please waves
You’re not doing a leveled volume comparison. The plugin is nice but when you level everything back out you’ll realize it’s not THAT big of a difference.
what about the ones that can't afford to buy this? I guess I could sell my car to buy plug ins. im disabled at 36, and draw nothing.
100
yo this music is horrible
Don't Do Drugs.
Wow, that sample song is really terrible, either way ...
Either way... Art is subjective my friend.
What is the name of the fresh air song I love it
song is terrible, plugin is nice
