Wow how adorable!!! Loved this snapshot in time. I only remember Showbiz from when I was very little and then it changed to Chuck E Cheese. This is so awesome having Billy Bob sing and interact with the kids!!! 🎉.
Sweet! Another footage of the manual interactive Billy Bob controller in operation. The person controlling him did decent unlike employees of some other locations.
@@Anubonek It in fact is a feature that was introduced in 1986 for Showbiz Pizza where they installed a manual controller to the show controller and someone would be able to control him to interact during intermissions. There in fact is an old training tape from 1986 someone uploaded to TH-cam.
It’s really an amazing concept. It would take Disney, of all companies, to catch up and introduce the concept to their parks (the sea turtle springs to mind). I know the idea wasn’t Creative Engineering’s, but wow, the tech behind it, and the dedication to entertainment on such a large scale is something I wish I was around to see in person.
I got to play with the interactive system for Billy Bob and wear the costume a few times. I never did any birthdays with the interactive system, but did wearing the costume. I also wore the Chuck E. Cheese outfit a few times .My brother Jeff played Billy Bob quite a few times for birthdays. Loved Showbiz pizza place! I played Santa Claus there too
god! That billy bob's interaction was craaaaazy! That must be every kid's dream at that time. I never lived in usa, so I never had contact with animatronics and stuff, but that's incredible! U can see clearly how showbiz was fantastic.
if wondering the reason billy bob was more "interactive" was because of a new control room feature added in showbiz in the mid 80s that had a desktop control panel that the controller can use to manually move billy bob and use a microphone to talk as billy bob!
Random time capsules like this are the best part of TH-cam. Thanks for sharing it! ShowBiz was like the mecca of fun and excitement as a child in the ‘80s.
This is proof the interactive Billy Bob was used, and it's really cute seeing the worker using Billy Bob talking to Gregg, although I wish he would have used the eyes and eye-lids
then again doing all of that would be a little hefty for a casual employee, but they could have added some form of programmed random eye movements to make it less lifeless and less work for the employee at the panel
Looks like the location at 9404 Main St. in Fairfax County, VA. It first opened for business in late December 1983 and was the fourth ShowBiz to open in all VA, and it still exists today as a Chuck E. Cheese's. Unusually, before its first remodel in 1991, there was no ShowBiz Pizza Place sign on the outside, but the accented stripes in the entrance area will tell you.
I do hope someone posts more of that Billy Bob Interactive show, especially for Looney Bird's appearance. I'm surprised how the interactive act didn't return for Billy Bob's Wonderland, that could treat the newer Rock-afire fans!
you mean the walk around costumes? bbw does have them they just don't use them often as they are very rare nowadays and they wanna keep them in as good of shape as possible they do sometimes put all of them on and stuff tho
@@BluetheFortune2006 AHHhHH that I'm not sure on I think they probably removed it as it was probably not able to be saved or something either that or maintenance got the best of them
There was a room where staff could see the kids but the kids couldn’t see them. They could speak into the microphone and interact with the kids as if they were an animatronic.
Even though I wasn’t born until several years after Showbiz and CEC merged as one, it’s incredible how they had interactive animatronics back then! Definitely very advanced for its time 😱.
By looking at this wonderful footage, I still have flashbacks from going to the one in Birmingham, Alabama's Midfield location in 1983 as a 3 yr old getting in a ride with a token slit after getting tokens out of the machine Takes me back to my childhood
Happy Birthday Greg! Can you tell us where this ShowBiz was located and what year this took place? I follow the ShowBiz fan community (which is probably why YoutTube suggested the video) but I have never before seen Billy Bob interact live like this!
I remember me and my brothers tossing coca cola cups at the animatronics and hear them go "bzzzzz" and then they'd be unable to move the wet joints, then the staff would come out looking for us but the place always had hundreds of kids yelling so they never knew who it was.

Man, our Billy Bob never invited us on stage at our Showbiz. The birthday kid usually stood in front of the stage.
Billy Bob Brockali: (Sobbing) You don't remember who I am? ( Grunts & groans)
The guy controlling probably didnt want to get any of the kids hurt by the bot moving while being on stage, which i respect

They have the Rock-afire Explosion now too!
