The Dementia storyline was all to real and all to close to home when if came to it's conclusive three weeks after my own dear mother had been dignoised with early onset dementia, the fright and heartach one felt from just watching one episode of what the coming years may bring not only fills a daughter with dread but also hoping one will be the best daughter by her mothers side as we travel this journey alone. So many people could tell this storyline over and over again each one slightly different to the next each one ending as heartbreaking as the other. I'm really glad Emmerdale one this one.
Annie BornAgain my only remaining grandma got diagnosed with dementia and this storyline helped my dad break it to me and my sister. I am sorry for your mum
The Emmerdale one is more important because you only have to look at people that Barbara Windsor now who has Alzheimer's dementia this thing happens in real life and a lot of people who say families and lives over it and its 100% more important than any other storyline.

no storyline like these is more important than another - they're all incredibly important. dementia is just as important as cancer and mental health etc. they all happen in real life.
Michael Seagal, I absolutely agree with you about Coronation street, but most certainly not Hollyoaks, a show made for youngsters who like eye candy and where on earth does the music come from? You don't hear that in Corrie, don't need it. That's not real life, for example, when you say, '' I'm just popping the the toilet '' a sudden burst of dramatic music does not come out from nowhere. No, I'm sorry, Hollyoaks shouldn't even be recognized as a soap in the same league as Coronation Street, not even worthy of competing against the likes of a long running institution of as Coronation street, doubt Hollyoaks will last almost 60 years like Corrie, rant over !!
I agree with most of what you say about Hollyoaks, most of the time It is unrealistic with stupid storylines and far too many murders and gangsters, but I feel this story line was a really good one, and surely if we want it to be a better program you reward the good storylines and don't acknowledge the bad
The progression was far too quick for the subtype he was diagnosed with to the point it made some elements seem as though they were directed for entertainment purposes (I know it's a television programme but I don't think anything to do with such severe illness should be made light of). A lot of the acting was far too ott and didn't correspond with what one would expect with cognitive decline. It all just felt very rushed and as though they squeezed the storyline in there to simply have the yearly 'impacting' storyline but didn't do more research.
I agree, it could have been better but I think what they did show was brilliantly performed. I don't understand why you think the acting was ott though.
danielroxheaps Ah maybe it just wasn't the acting for me then. There are so many different areas of performance and types of acting techniques for a reason because people enjoy and see the value in certain types over others. I'm happy you enjoyed it! I call it theatrical but I don't know if that is the Wright word to use... you know when people perform on stage they use larger than average body movements and project their voice in a certain way? That's the imagine I saw. If you over compensate like that it can come across more an actor performing that wrong than being and representing that role if that makes sense? Who knows. I'm not a dementia expert so I could be totally off anyway!
I totally get what you're saying. I do think if it did happen to them in real life they would act more differently, or if, let's say, Charlotte and/or John did have this happen to them, it would have been acted differently.
