Thanks gentlemen! Appreciate you allowing me to showcase the PC 🙏 Josh and Phil are technically both correct. There are 185 ish Felix Potvin 1/1s in the collection. About 70 of which are licensed - panini, pinnacle, upper deck etc. The remainder of which are Leaf, Pres. Choice, in the game etc. Cheers🎉
Great show as always, boys! It was nice seeing Sylvain back and sharing his card dealer life experiences. Josh and Lewi - awesome personal pickups! - Ryan from Texas
Thanks for dealing w my long winded question. I won't even get into the root of it. All I'll say is the ones who care about massive hobby growth generally stand to gain the most from that growth. The collectors who collect could not care less. An Expo or National twice as big as it already is could not sound less appealing. Cheers boys!
Loved the 7th inning Sketch cards!!! Although Phil is forgetting one iconic card from that set that us early 90's kids wanted......Pat Falloon with the Spokane Chiefs!!
Great review of 23/24 Parkhurst Champions. Bravo. The last PC set was 11/12 not 10/11. And - it's becoming a pattern - I disagree with Phil's bizarre dismissal of the hard-signed cut auto booklets. They are *the* chase product hits! They are why ppl like me broke a case. Name another low-end product with cut autos and booklets. Zero. 22/23 is an $80 product. The only other way to get an UD booklet (as opposed to Leaf, or President's Choice) in a new product is to drop $1,000 on The Cup. Very interesting discussion about the benefit of growing the hobby, and collusion. Both relate to broader economic principles. The short answer to the latter relates to the functioning of private entities in a free market economy with de facto oligopolies. Add governance, and watch the uproar. (And no Beckett is not governance, as they themselves have a vested interest by design.) And, even though you can guess my ideological underpinnings as a Montrealer living in Brooklyn, when ppl get on their soap box about "collusion" or practices "ruining the hobby" I really get my back up. Did we not all live through the 1990s? (At least some of us have.) The hobby is not some monolith with ethical standards. No one is forcing anyone to purchase products at inflated prices. Wherever ppl throw their money away, someone will exist to catch it. Do we also go to the perfume counter and shame the woman hawking European perfume for $200 to some middle-aged woman willing to overpay to be part of a culture she values? The fact is the hobby presently is a culture, just like online poker is, with inherent sunk entertainment costs, mostly geared toward men gaming and gambling on disclosed dismal odds. Ppl consistently buy products and into group breaks, often for prices higher than the actual cards they can purchase directly on eBay. We could break down all the "wrongdoing" of card companies, suppliers, group breakers, secondary market platforms, graders, etc. But they are merely companies, often working in concert, to maximize every penny that all these gamers/gamblers fork out hand over fist, for their endorphin rush, completely independent from appreciating hockey and card collecting. Watch any channel or group break, and the sole fixation is card value, never the yearly expenditure of these gamblers. Which is where all the real financial lessons reside: on the other side of the balance sheet. If collusion and unethical behavior upsets collectors, my advice is simple. Look in the mirror. Look at your bank statements. Find a cheaper pastime. And, invest all your wealth in the stock market and real estate, or your education, not penny stocks du-jour due to FOMO. If you read this far, you're a Parkhurst Champion!
Phil might enjoy that Brodeur is in a St.Louis jersey in 2014 platinum, i.e. the first year we had it. So silly looking for such an iconic set. I have been searching for years for the 2014 Seismic Gold actually but they are not an easy find.
No complaints about the Devils Mount Rushmore! Niedermayer and Stevens could be interchangeable like you said, but if Parise had stayed, I think he could’ve been one of the top guys for us on here. As for Phil on Stevens, I’m not sure how he formed his belief that Stevens was merciless; He said, “I was definitely concerned. I was definitely hoping he got back up. I don’t want to see him get hurt, and to be honest with you, I was very happy when he came back,” on his Kariya hit. He was ruthless, but he wasn’t hitting with malicious intent.
I would agree 100 % that if Parise had stayed he would have made his mark and probably found himself on the Mt. Rushmore. I also second what you said about Stevens hit on Kariya. He was genuinely concerned for him but finished his play and that's that.
I just saw that Steel City listed the 24/25 Parkhurst Champions (no price, release July 2025.) I don't like the preview of the base cards at all.... Plus, they are making star cards SPs (something I wouldn't entirely mind in flagship, but not sure it's appropriate here.)
cant wait for parkhurst champions!
Let's go!

Amazing collection.....really appreciate you sharing it.
My man and brother in arms TONY!! Best. Guest!!!
Leon is my favorite player right now, and glad he's getting some love from you guys!!
He's a beast!

We very much look forward to Sylvain's appearances as well. Love to learn about all the different ways people navigate the hobby.
Ya, having Sylvain come around is always a good time!

Glad you asked it...good question. It would be hard to conceive an Expo twice as big
Can’t believe you’re coming up on 250. You guys should definitely do something to celebrate it.
We'll figure something out ;)
Draisaitl has a heck of a season again and Brayden Point is completely underrated in the hobby in my opinion.
Best from Germany:)
They are both underappreciated! Thanks for chiming in :)

Big Rig!

Good to see Phil with his care bear PJ bottoms on lmfao ❤
lol

Wow that is kind of crazy....would love to see that card!

Great input.....thanks for adding to the convo. We'll see if Phil stands corrected.

Question for next mailbag; best itg/bap product of all time
I feel like Printing Plates are so unpopular, and pricing on secondary market seems to show that. Why does UD continue to insert them?
Easy way to add more 1/1's would be our guess
ZAJAC AND PARISE! GO SIOUX!!!
Hahaha, I was waiting for someone to jump on that comment of mine! 😉

Thanks for alerting....big departure in base design. Need to digest this one.
Ahhhhhh
😂😂😂😂😂
TARPS OFF FOR 250!!!!
we'll do something...maybe 20 years ago tarps off hahahahaha.
Where’s Troy?
Troy stepped away in September to focus on coaching hockey. He makes occasional appearances and chats in our Discord at this point :)
