I don't know why I am getting so much critisism for this project. It was just an interesting item I was commisioned to make. I am not endorsing their use but they are a tool in daily use by the borehole company and clearly work for them .When they collected the 5 rods they loved them and have orderd 20 more.

They're utter hogwash. There's literally zero science to it whatsoever. That said, if they want them, and you can make them, you'd be an idiot NOT to make them.

When I had my well drilled, one quote included dowsing. Another driller told me to pick a spot, you're living over an aquifer. So i used the second guy. Hit 3 aquifers at 100, 185 and 300 ft. Same hole 3 aquifers, great water and saved the cost of dowsing. I don’t think dowsing is legit, my thoughs anyway.

In a first world country, in the 21st century, people are using dowsing rods?

    • @masteronone2079
      @masteronone2079 ปีที่แล้ว +3

People believe in stranger things and organise their lives around them, like what politicians say, for example.
My feeling is that some people develop an inate feeling for the landforms and vegetation patterns that indicate the presence of water, and the rods just provide a focus for their subconscious reaction.
I've seen diviners working, and they certainly believe in their skill. I've also seen people who just look at the landscape, take note of the geology landforms and vegetation, and say drill there with similar results.

My dad learned to dowse, I think from his grandad sometime in the 1920's, around the potteries. Dad said it worked for him and I learned a long time ago not to argue with my mum or dad, both of whom are gone now.
Whether it works or not that was an interesting project.
Your steady rest with interchangeable bushings and how you worked the copper wire coils was a lesson I can use.
    Thanks for sharing.

I personally have little faith in the Water Divining Rods. I went looking through the content wondering if anyone pointed out the cut off piece that fell down the side and see some folks are a little more... verbose in their feelings on this stuff.
You were asked by a friend if you could make something and you obviously have the skills. I appreciated your ability to fabricate this item and sharing it with us. Your commentary and description suggest you are probably at least a bit skeptical of their function as well.

When you come right down to it, none of our opinions on whether they work matters in the slightest. Maybe even the opinion of the borehole guys that use them doesn't matter. What matters is that someone has an (I presume) successful borehole business, and part of their toolbox is these things.
Do they work? Who cares. Does the borehole guy get results, that's what matters.

It's a very short leap from "as long as he drills up water" to "as long as the patient feels better".
Dowsing rods don't do anything, that's not an opinion, it's fact. It's been tested over and over; as soon as you test dowsing in a controlled environment they are as good as random guesses.
I *DO NOT QUESTION* the ability of the driller to find water, but any geologist can tell you where you are likely to find water, so if anything he uses the rod as a way to get confirmation from his subconsious that he's in the right spot. Impostor-syndrome; he thinks he can't tell where the water is, but his dowsing rod can, evne though obviously he is in full control of that rod.
And don't forget that some customers simply *want* him to use a dowsing rod because they believe in it themselves.

@@vinny142 When you come right down to it, it is theater al fresco. If you go to a theater to see a movie or stage performance you pay, right? What is the principle that makes these rods detect water? I have seen it done, and get the impression that magnetic or electric fields are involved, generated by flowing water, and inducing current in the rods. A form of Eddie current reaction, generated by water current motion.

I have been dowsing wells for over 10 years with only two pieces of number 4 bare copper wire the kind you see on the side of power poles bent on one end for a handle hold. It also depends on the person, some rods curve out when they find an underground stream of water, and some turn in. The guy who owned the drilling company used this technique for over 50 years so yes in my opinion it does work. We have never missed water yet. Underground water puts off a magnetic field and this is what attracts the copper rods. This is my story and it works.
