@@heyitsnemo that was Super Bowl 53 five years ago cause cause it was to pay homage or tribute to the creator of the show that passed away months prior, which didn’t actually because you actually also had the guy who sang the actual song too. He thought he was going to go on stage to sing it to the NFL son no they talk bad about him and he left so that’s why everybody was happy a little bit that they finally played this song at the Super Bowl. Finally after five years of screwing us fans that love SpongeBob, except for the NHL they are actually playing actual song at Dallas star stadium.
I understand the animation has to be different, but seriously.. they couldn’t even set it up like in the episode.. Squidward needs to prove that he does have the talent and forms a band. Not just them all playing without any context. Squidward never played, the band formed to help him. Edit: This was obviously marketed towards the generation that watched the OG episode as a kid, so it’s not “whining” to want something done correctly. They could have very easily set it up more so like the original by creating a 10 min set up episode… and still kept it up to date.
Y'all can't be happy with what y'all get😭 it's supposed to be a reference to the SCENE in the episode, NOT the episode itself 😭 If that were the case, I'd understand your complaint but here it's pointless 😭
Were the voices live? That's probably why they sounded like shit. They may have been in some scuffed last minute studio in the arena or something doing the vtuber thing and doing the voices in real time. I was fascinated and questioning, "Wait is this real time? Or is it scripted and prerecorded?" 😆
You could see that Spongebob and Patrick were really there on the regular broadcast. It was people in big mascots suits but there was something real that the CGI was layered on top of. I assume the voice actors either pre-recorded or called in over Zoom or something.
I screamed and sobbed that they played it, at least they played it on Nick and it's a honor for SpongeBobs 25th anniversary. I was so happy when it played I don't care how it looked or how it played out, at least it played, Stephen is for sure proud up in Heaven
This wasn't supposed to be the same as it was on the TV show, it's supposed to be SpongeBob currently Squidward wanted to play. It's not going to be the exact same otherwise they would just show the video from the show
I can appreciate that a lot of these players have also been waiting 20 years to go on to this song. I can imagine this was pitched to them and they screamed HELL YES.
fun fact: i went to a comic con a month ago that Tom Kenny attended, me & a friend got to meet him and of course were fangirling because of the voices of beloved characters we grew up with. I asked just a generic whats your favorite episode you did not expecting a crazy answer, he said band geeks. But we didnt think he would elaborate and go into detail telling us sweet victory would return for the superbowl and that they were test fitting him with motion capture suits to start shooting the following week. this may not have been a band geeks 1:1 remake, but a whole hell of alot better than when they cut it for sicko mode last time
Finally. Justice for Stephen Hillenburg. After the song got snubbed from the halftime half a decade ago, we finally got to see it happen for the first time. Who cares if it wasn't at halftime, who cares if it was only on one network, the fact we have it at all is worth celebrating.
It is great to see that they played Sweet Victory! I prefer if it was 2D animated, just like how they reanimated it with the Paramount Plus launch commercial back in 2021, where they played it. Overall, I’m just glad that they played the song this time on Nickelodeon. This is for you, Stephen Hillenburg! Too bad, it wasn’t the full song.
Because Usher is hot and has “sex appeal” and Spongebob doesn’t, you know, the big shots think the younger generation will swoon over Usher and buy more music
Sad to see whoever gave the final okay on this did not do their homework for something that's so special to the Spongebob cannon. It's picky as hell sure, but not having Mrs. Puff playing as a lefty and Patrick not on an electric drum set seems disingenuous for the amount of marketing they put into this.
how far this little sponge has gone... from a show from the 90s becoming popular and longlasting, to him and patrick full on hosting the super bowl. how crazy.
All these people in this comment section are such ungrateful barnacles, these people always need something to be mad at. But this was awesome anyways! Thank you Stephen!!
You know, this would've been better if they showed the players speaking AFTER the first chorus, because that would've give emphasis to spongebob and crew performing the song because focusing on the players makes it sound like it's just "sweet victory" without spongebob
If I had a nickel for every time they don’t use SpongeBobs sweet victory for a Super Bowl half time, I would have 2. Which isn’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
I just wanted to say that while I know its not the original. I think this was supposed to be them playing the song again not replacing it. It was technically two different football games and yes the original would have been amazing if they played it. I am most happy for kids getting their own sweet victory!!
The mass amount of footage of the 49ers and chiefs kinda put me off. Maybe because Nickelodeon thought it was too expensive to animate an entire CGI remake of Sweet Victory.
I'll be damned. When I first this was gonna be a thing, I thought the NFL was troll us again. But no, they acutally heard our cries. However, here's my hot take. If we had started that petition, for Sweet Victory to played Super Bowl 2019, back in 2017 when Stephen Hillenburg announced his was diagnosed with ALS, we might have had chance. That way, the NFL would've had enough time & money to set up for David Glen Eisley & Bob Kulick to preform Sweet Victory. It could've also featured people in SpongeBob, Squidward, & Patrick costumes as back-up dancers. Finally, since Bob Kulick died in 2020, there wouldn't have had been a better to be remembered than him singing Sweet Victory at the Super Bowl 2019.
