Joe you mentioned that your experience of the recent M3 models puts you in a good place to review the new Touring - agreed! If memory serves correctly, I think you mentioned elsewhere that Audi have provided you with a long-ish loan of an RS6. I appreciate that strictly speaking these are different size categories of cars however, if BMW are holding firm on retail pricing, you can pick up a pretty new RS6 for very similar money with more weight, more power, more cylinders, more thirst... and a large glass sunroof! Whilst not directly comparable, once again you are ideally placed to provide your audience with a perspective on the two cars as dailies - perhaps you could touch on this if/ when you provide an update on the RS6? Cheers.
A very well shot, well edited imformative review on this car and my goodness that car had every single option. I dont think anyone needs to spec it anywhere near as high as 22k in options. Still its very cool to drive around in that very very highly speced press car.
Hi Joe been with you for a few years now. Just a flying comment.. I've ha tourings for the past 25 years because of the split tailgate. Brilliant 👏. The noise from the rear/exhaust, tyres , that you've brought up, could be that you've not had the pull out cover deployed. I've found over the many touring years it makes an audible difference.

Nice video Joe, but surprised you didn’t mention ALPINA in your intro of options for fast estate options? As you know, for years they have offered a route for anyone wanting a fast BMW wagon. I started following you back in the day when you tested ALPINA models, such a shame that arrangement with Sytner fell away. I’d love to see you compare the M3 Touring with the B3. Keep up the great work 👊
Yeah it's a pity Sytner made it impossible for one man bands to borrow their demos. I'm sure the B3 Touring is incredible and arguably better as a daily, but without being able to access one and praise it (like I did loads back in 2015-2017), I can't comment. I'm sure others will compare both and feedback.
I got mine three weeks ago after seeing a few reviews but Joe’s is the most comprehensive. I have not done much with it yet except for a country drive the day it was delivered and i found the car really well sorted out. And yes, i feel bad that suddenly my 2018 C63 Estate aged.

Drove one on the track the other day. Such a balanced car. The only model i don't have with this front grill Strong brakes. Perfect handling. Just needs more power and exhaust sound. Can only hear the fake sounds from the stereo. Great looking car 1000% would have bought 7 years ago. But moving to big x5 for the V8:-)
It is just too much money eh. 100 percent. Gorgeous car but just out of the average man's reach now. Maybe after 3 or 4 years when petrol is 6 quid a litre I could maybe afford one. 🤣
@@alimack5489 yes a decent m3/m4 with say 25k miles and 3 years old was maybe 35k.. not sure this will be as attainable in the same period. Shame cause I do love it man.
I wish they'd brought this out with the old instrument cluster and 20" rims on the front to match the back. Stance looks great from the back but it's weak everywhere else. For the same price I think I'll stick to my RS6.

I know people say they will buy cars like manuals if they just bring them to the US. But then they don't but this is the only car I will trade my 20 X3M Comp and my old fashioned idrive 6 for still after 3 years. I know I am not the only one either. Why BMW? Really interesting and informative vid as always Joe. Having been a subscriber for a few years, I've watched many a video on the G21 Touring in many different flavours. In fact, you are the reason I purchased one. However, I have a G21 Touring with a pan roof and totally understand why BMW haven't listed this option on the M3 Touring. But I wouldn't want to be without mine and would probably choose an M340i Touring with pan roof and a tune, over the M3. What's your thoughts?
@@JoeAchilles1 I’ve always owned BMW and went from F80 M3 to RS6 last year. Love the RS, very smooth quiet refined but does everything a bit too well lol. The wife loves the RS as she felt the M3 road noise was too much and suspension too stiff. M3 had more exhaust noise and more engaging, but she was 2014 so I’m guessing new one a little quieter. Interested to hear your thoughts in due course 👍

If you want a satin finish then don’t buy it from the manufacturer get a gloss colour and put a satin PPF over it! So much easier to clean and take care of!
Year deep into my M340d Touring, but will admit to the temptation - got the brochure, specced the car... just not sure I need the fuel bill on my current commute! I imagine it would be monster in that, but what a beauty
I don't think the M3 has anything to offer a 340D user that's not doing track days or drives over 7/10 on public roads. Joe has mentioned in previous video's that while it has 650Nm of torque it's only available at 3000rpm so the car always needs multiple downshifts to get moving when you're trundling along in comfort mode. The only reason you might consider petrol is ULEZ and future values and in that case the 340i's setup has the torque available at much lower revs (think 1400rpm by heart) so you won't feel as short changed.
@@helldogbe4077 I've had no complaints from the M340d - I do a lot of miles, chiefly motorway, getting up and down the country. It just laps them up, as did my previous 335d Touring. They've been the perfect car for my needs.

Tuning is irrelevant, 99% of new car owners wouldn't even go there (goodbye warranty) and let's face it, you can tune any performance estate if you have the money. There's an RS4 in Holland kicking out 760bhp, for example.
Joe, will you be showing any attention to the Ineos Grenadier with its B57 and B58 powertrains? If I were to have to pick a new 2 car garage, it would be on of these Tourings, and a Grenadier. Every base covered.

I thought those M3 kidneys were hideous when it came out but for some strange reason i like them in the M3 Touring. That combination gave the car character, which is what I look for. I also have the Portimao blue but not in frost.

BMW in all there wisdom stopped selling touring’s in Canada. So I’m stuck with my 2016 328i x drive touring, we couldn’t even get the 340. Have to move to Europe.
Totally agree with Asim below. I cannot believe that you omitted to mention Alpina Tourings of which you were such a huge fan some years ago. It's such a pointed omission it can only be that BMW only lent you the car with that stipulation. I have an Alpina D3 Touring (together with a Porsche 991.1 turbo). The Alpina diesel D3 Touring and especially the B3 petrol version (given a very rare 5* rating by Autocar) are the best medium sized fast estates made: civilised, quick, frugal, comfortable and unlike this boy-racer, nicely understated. My little D3 has as much torque as a 712 McLaren - 700nm. And Alpina's 5-series B5 Touring is a 612bhp, 200+ mph supercar. Some early sellers are trying to get £110k+ for this M3 Touring - not worth it. Simply not good enough Joe.

Surely only for those not at all affected &/or bothered by cost of living hikes & with adequately deep pockets (regardless of purchase/funding route).
High list prices are in line with previous low interest rates, hence low payments for expensive items. The rates are moving upwards so manufactures are going to suffer as clients will be fewer. They did their homework based on low rates. Does not bode well.
Since even Top Gear calls this 2023's most anticipated new car, it doesn't need a launch (other than the 1 you begin this video with). Still waiting on your i7 review, Joe.
At mid £80K for an unspecced car and £107K for a fully loaded one I don't expect to see many on the road. It does look much better proportioned than the M3 saloon but the pricing has really become silly. I know it doesn't have the space and is nowhere near as practical but that is nice slightly used 911 territory and I know which is likely to hold its value better and bring the most smiles. However the M3 touring is likely to bring more grins.

How long is the wait after placing the order? I've got an RS4 on order, now at 16 months and still no sign of it! Getting close to cancelling, buying something newish as stop gap and ordering this BMW.
It seems Audi have given up building the RS products, delivery times are horrendous! I ordered my Touring in Sept 22 and its arrived this month, circa 5 months. If you ordered one today it would probably be closer to 7-8 months.
😂😂 I'm sorry, but performance cars like this when gets muddy/dirty, I just think of 911 Dakar or that new Offroad Huracan, a car that shouldn't be offroad at the first place. But it's good that you using it to commute. Brilliant to be honest because some people are too scared to dirtied their performance cars occasionally, just sit there hanging until weekend arrives. Secondary point, BMW should expand it's Touring M's to rake its market with Audi RS or some C or E class AMG Merc because, it's proven that Touring guise gives almost maximum of practicality and performance with little to no downside. Sorry for the long comment Joe. I love your content. Long live Petrolheads 💪

Good point you made about the additional tyre and exhaust sound. I had noticed it but coming from a coupe I had nothing to compare it to.

I think the manufacturers have to allow the gap around the tyres for the fitting of snow chains?

Great car and review, keep it up! Love the car, but that upshift artificial clunk noise is something so annoying. At least for me... Sticking to my F90 for the time being.
BMW in all there wisdom stopped selling touring’s in Canada. So I’m stuck with my 2016 328i x drive touring, we couldn’t even get the 340. Have to move to Europe.
Totally agree with Asim below. I cannot believe that you omitted to mention Alpina Tourings of which you were such a huge fan some years ago. It's such a pointed omission it can only be that BMW only lent you the car with that stipulation. I have an Alpina D3 Touring (together with a Porsche 991.1 turbo). The Alpina diesel D3 Touring and especially the B3 petrol version (given a very rare 5* rating by Autocar) are the best medium sized fast estates made: civilised, quick, frugal, comfortable and unlike this boy-racer, nicely understated. My little D3 has as much torque as a 712 McLaren - 700nm. And Alpina's 5-series B5 Touring is a 612bhp, 200+ mph supercar. Some early sellers are trying to get £110k+ for this M3 Touring - not worth it. Simply not good enough Joe.

Edit - IMHO the pricing on this arguably steep...even when we factor inflation & options. Surely only for those not at all affected &/or bothered by cost of living hikes & with adequately deep pockets (regardless of purchase/funding route).
High list prices are in line with previous low interest rates, hence low payments for expensive items. The rates are moving upwards so manufactures are going to suffer as clients will be fewer. They did their homework based on low rates. Does not bode well.

Heir apparent to century of Rolls & Aston shooting brakes?
At mid £80K for an unspecced car and £107K for a fully loaded one I don't expect to see many on the road. It does look much better proportioned than the M3 saloon but the pricing has really become silly. I know it doesn't have the space and is nowhere near as practical but that is nice slightly used 911 territory and I know which is likely to hold its value better and bring the most smiles. However the M3 touring is likely to bring more grins.

I can confirm the curved display will be on the M4, March/April onwards built cars.
How long is the wait after placing the order? I've got an RS4 on order, now at 16 months and still no sign of it! Getting close to cancelling, buying something newish as stop gap and ordering this BMW.
It seems Audi have given up building the RS products, delivery times are horrendous! I ordered my Touring in Sept 22 and its arrived this month, circa 5 months. If you ordered one today it would probably be closer to 7-8 months.

😂😂 I'm sorry, but performance cars like this when gets muddy/dirty, I just think of 911 Dakar or that new Offroad Huracan, a car that shouldn't be offroad at the first place. But it's good that you using it to commute. Brilliant to be honest because some people are too scared to dirtied their performance cars occasionally, just sit there hanging until weekend arrives.
Secondary point, BMW should expand it's Touring M's to rake its market with Audi RS or some C or E class AMG Merc because, it's proven that Touring guise gives almost maximum of practicality and performance with little to no downside.
