Thanks for sharing fellow veteran. I usually put mine directly in the ground and don't disturb the roorts whatsoever but I have had one in a sleeve of only woodchips/sawdust and it died. I should have done what you do with that one.
Will all Maddock ranch trees are grown in DG and my results is they are fast growers bc of it. I only get trees from Brokaw, Epicenter, or Maddock. I’ve killed way too many trees due to the shit the others pot the trees in. Maddock trees about $36 so totally worth it not having to do all this labor. Good luck with your Reed.
I just did this with my new hass avocado tree that was planted in regular potting soil. Rinsed out all the stuff it was packed with then replanted it in a mix of sphagnum peat moss, sand, pumice, crushed lava rock, perlite, horticultural charcoal, and mychorrhizae. Now I'm just watching and waiting....
I gave it to a friend who has 10 mature Fuerte trees and he needed to add a few a"A" varieties. I gave him a Jan Boyce and the Reed shown in this video. I'll ask him for an update on the trees an get back to you. Thanks for watching
@socalbackyardgardener thank you for replying. Your avocado tree videos have been a great source of information for me. I usually have the worse luck with avocado trees, but I think I can change that thanks to your videos.

Trees grow in wood chips up to a certain age

6 month update, please? I'm trying a similar mix.
It worked for me. The tree seems happy
How has the tree been since you repotted it?
