Blessed are the poor in spirit
    Longing for their Lord
For God's coming kingdom shall be theirs
    Blessed are the sorrowing
    For they shall be consoled
And the meek shall come to rule the world
Lead me, Lord, lead me, Lord
    By the light of truth
To seek and to find the narrow way
Be my way, be my truth
    Be my life, my Lord
    And lead me, Lord, today
Blessed are the merciful, for mercy shall be theirs
And the pure in heart shall see their God
Blest are they whose hunger only holiness can fill
For I say they shall be satisfied
Lead me, Lord, lead me, Lord
    By the light of truth
To seek and to find the narrow way
Be my way, be my truth
    Be my life, my Lord
    And lead me, Lord, today
    And lead me, Lord, today

When I was in college, I was in the church choir. When the guitar player graduated, I picked up the title as an amateur that had a guitar as a hobby..LOL. But THIS the way I recalled the song being played. Since my college days, every church I heard play it....plays it so ssssllllooowwww that I think there is a app running slowing the song down to a crawl. We used to play it with a little pep. like in this video.

John Becker was the music director at Guardian Angles Church in Oakdale, MN during the 1980's. He wrote pieces like Lead Me Lord, Litany of the Saints, Come Taste and See, & Alpha and Omega. I remember the projector screen that had John's lyrics on transparent sheets that were swapped out as the song was being played so the congregation could sing along. My sister and I heard these songs so much that eventually we didn't need to look at the projection screen as we had the lyrics memorized. She and I didn't realize it at the time, but what a treat it was every Sunday for us to watch and listen to him preform the unique pieces of music he created. I wish I could find recordings of his work that contained his own voice (nothing against you, Chris!). If anyone has them, please post a comment. I'd love to connect and possibly obtain those.

Do you plan to tweak this? Slightly louder vocal mic to balance the guitar - if you are using them(?) your sound person knows how. I would change nothing else. You have been gifted with a beautiful voice and I envy the ability of a musician to sing and accompany oneself and others. Be well.

Meekness is not being small, and without power. Meekness is having great power, and forbearing to rely on it to enforce your will.
"The origin of “meek” in English comes from the Old Norse mjukr, meaning “gentle,” though perhaps a fuller understanding comes from the Greek origin, praus, which is translated as “strength under control.” In ancient Greece, war horses were trained to be meek - strong and powerful yet under control and willing to submit"
All modern dictionaries mis-define this word as "soft, weak and easily influenced".
Christ said "I am Meek, and Humble of Heart"
Do you think he was saying that he was any of the things the modern dictionary would have you believe Meekness means?
All of that said: the chorus speaks to me.

There are two renditions of this song available on TH-cam videos put out by OCP (Journeysongs Third Edition: Volume 24, th-cam.com/video/osbo-4SCkbg/w-d-xo.html; Spirit & Song Disc J, th-cam.com/video/-Qm5JG8zVhk/w-d-xo.html), with evidently different performers, the former's lead voice much deeper than the latter's. Do you know which is Becker's own performance, if either? Thank you. I have a sneaking suspicion that the former, which I like less, is Becker, because the latter rendition doesn't follow the sheet music in the part of the chorus with the words, "to seek and to find the narrow way", coming back to the tonic G on "way" instead of staying on A as in the published music.

    • @christopherrushlau4335
      @christopherrushlau4335 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I even like that variant/alternate tune in the chorus better. It also mirrors the verses' tune, so maybe is the right one.

    • @kejonza

Hello! John Becker and I attended the same church while I was growing up (which is where he used to work before becoming a lawyer)
Neither recording is him. He has done a recording but it is not publicly available. Both recordings are too slow - the sheet music marking is quarter equals 120 - and you’re right, the Spirit and Song chorus is incorrect.
Chris’s version is the most accurate-to-John recording I’ve found out there. Partially because of the rhythm and tempo, but also because Chris and John’s voices are similar. Hope that helps you out!
