The original structure looked like it used a lot more iron, whereas the refurb seems like exclusively wooden frames and facades. SO much wood. Everything, wood. I'd like to see some 90's footage when it still had the coin-op arcade machines and Quasar. I suppose VHS cameras were still too bulky and expensive then. Does anyone know where Quasar (which became a nightclub) was actually located? I can't tell if it was above the ballroom or in the upper section in front of it. Thanks for the upload
That is a pity it would be fascinating to see the original arcade machines on the pier! I believe the quasar bit was just in front of the ballroom, there is actually a brief bit of footage of it in a Hastings documentary from the 90s! And you can see a brief glimpse of an arcade on the pier in the video for oh labour by Dollar which was all filmed at the pier in the 1980s
Quazar was above the bar area of the ball room. many an afternoon in there spent saving the universe.....I have said if i ever win "Big" on the lottery I will buy the pier and build a ball room back on the end of it.....the Plank of wood it currently is although "looks" pretty to posh people has no chance of making any money to make sure it is there for the future....yes with me in charge you aill get bands back on the pier...Bexhill college parties will return and most importantly......the 10p drop machines! I would also set it up as a centre for performing arts with practice rooms/recording studios on there for young upcoming Hastings talent
Shame they destroyed the Art Deco entrance, not that it matters now anyway. I reckon they should design and build another Ballroom at the end of the pier.
@@andyclifton4122 I do quite like the pier in its current form however its a little bit plain, It would be great to have an old style pavilion built with new materials at the end of it for concerts and events!

I agree , yes it does need more on it. they wont put anymore money into it, which is a shame. They have had some music on the Pier, if i have herd right. it wont be happening again.
I saw the new pier recently. Boring - part of it closed off already. Nothing there except a long wooden walkway with a few beach huts on it, no greenery - nothing. Not even a shelter from the rain Bland is not the word. It looks sad, and even more wooden than Kweer Starmer
Wow this is fantasic I love seeing old footage of the pier and the town. I don't live in Hastings anymore, but still have fond memories.

I quite agree Louis.I would like to see them restore the frontage, even if it's not identical. At the moment it's just cold and bare!
