I normally listen in the car on my commutes, but of course those commutes are at a halt right now. Something other than your logo on a black screen has made the video versions of your show much much more watchable! Thank you so much for always delivering the what I think is the best magic content there is besides actually sitting down and drafting irl.

On Idyllic Tutor: That's exactly it. I played it once because I had two Dreadful Apathys and a Kiora Bests the Sea God. It did do work there, because I grabbed the removal spell most of the time but did have a complete board stall or two in which I did actually get the chance to win with Kiora Bests the Sea God after tutoring it up. I can't imagine playing it otherwise.
As someone who has been listening since the days of Loucks, I wonder what newer listeners think of when Marshall ends each show and then Louis (or any other co-host since Jon) begins talking about something as if a new segment of the show is starting. Always wondered why Marshall never just made the co-host signoff a more natural part of the show. Doesn't really matter, I guess. Great show, gentlemen.
As someone who has been watching/listening since War of the Spark, I got used to it pretty quickly. Of course I also listened to the old episodes to learn about LR history.
One small thing about the bombs in the format going head-to-head: Polukranos beats Dream Trawler when both players have resolved them in my experience. If it's the stage of the game where Trawler can even come down it means the Polukranos player has enough mana to fight, and then fight again in response to Trawler's triggered ability. As the Polukranos player you can activate on their upkeep and make them discard two cards and tap Trawler every turn until they can't or won't pay for it anymore.
To me, mythic uncommon would easily be Shimmerwing Chimera. Just a stupid, insanely good, game-winning bomb if it goes unanswered, and surprisingly hard to answer when the opponent's been able to build around it with Omens of the Dead and Starlit Mantles. I don't think any of the black uncommons are even particularly close to it, although I do love me some Pharika's Spawn.
In Arena Cube, opponent's Atris showed me a Shatter the Sky, Into the Story, and basic Island. The feeling when they took the face-down Island was next-level.
Never take the single face down. It is never worth it lol. I play Atris in my standard deck and have mastered the choice. I have never had one I am unhappy with. But it is sweet blowing them out with the face down basic
Nessian Boar is great. Even if they have removal for it, you can still wait until you can alpha strike them do death since they can't block your other creatures.
There was a time when I went 7-2 on Arena where I drafted alot of big green creatures and self mill and escape but no way to finish the game if a board stall.....put a fruit in my deck and one Everytime cuz I had fruit and a ton of graveyard for escape......had to take a shower after that
Came back to watch this as it's back on arena again.... At 23:54 wtf does Luis see on the screen lol. A black lotus being used to light a cigar or something equally gross.

Listening to you guys makes me wonder the difference of skill equates to your enjoyment of Theros. So like for myself I thought this set was very difficult to draft and that difficulty made me really dislike this format as a newer player. While I get better over time I may come to enjoy Theros, but right now I have no desire to ever play this set again.
Just to add I agree with another user. It was too easy to have your removal package not line up to what your opponent had going on. While you say it's a pauper format, I disagree. To me it felt like a Lucky King format. To me it was get a super bomb or do average to poor as well hope your removal package matches up with the bombs or might as well move onto next round/match
Again these should always be live. I would never watch Joe Rogan if there wasn’t video. Sadly, LR has been the same. Keep it live and I’ll keep watching more and more!

However, I maintain that this is a silver bullet set... if your (C)/(U) removal package doesn't line up exactly with your opponent's (R) or (M) bombs, in most cases, you just lose. Sure, the good Polukranos player can outplay the mediocre one, but the scenario in which your opponent Escapes this with 3 mana and you don't have an immediate answer is practically game over. Hexproof Sphinx? If you're not WAY WAY ahead, and/or have the... 2 spells that can deal with it in set, guess it's game 2. Sets I've enjoyed (in no particular order): 1. Ravnica 2. Mirrodin Block 3. Eldraine 4. Time Spiral 5. Ultimate Masters Of note, M19 might be my favorite core set draft (that's not saying much though). Worst? Well... (discounting core sets like 5th edition...) 1. Theros Beyond Death. 2. Amonkhet ~~~~~~~~~~~ (below this are much better) 3. Kamigawa 4. IXA

You know, Raise the Alarm does the same thing for much less and doesn't need you to pay 3 mana to put it into the graveyard... In all seriousness; there are some fair crossover-synergies here and there, but it's usually overcosted and makes you jump through hoops.

Still, my point was that he was talking about what spells normally do, so the fact you can jump through hoops on an enchantment to do that too misses the point.

Basically they work with most of the themes of the set. That was his point.

I don't know what you're talking about, Ben always said that you could argue for any order of S-tier cards (Kiora saga, Trawler, Ashiok, Heliod). He also stated that Trawler is more powerful on the battlefield than Ashiok but it's harder to fit into a deck than an Ashiok. So while you'd prefer to open Ashiok, Trawler IS harder to beat when you face an opponent with a clear UW deck.
