Michelle, I cannot express how much I love your channel and your lovely personality. At 67 years old, I mostly stick to watercolors the past few years, but I found you and got hooked. The past month I now have boxes of saved packaging and lots of painted papers, a new gelli plate and all kinds of collage fodder made I just love. I really do not need a junk journal but I seem to be headed that way; maybe for a gift. Sometimes I put on your videos to listen to while I paint as well. I always learn something. I am shocked that Tim Holtz has not grabbed you up and hired you for big money frankly, as I think you are brilliant. I thank you so much for opening my eyes to mixed media. I think you are an AMAZING artist and also a really wonderful watercolor painter. I look forward to the day you get some professional watercolor paint and great paper. You will LOVE THEM. That would be one video I want to witness.
Confession time: I really like how you don’t over measure…other artists/TH-camrs kind of intimidate me with all the measurements and I won’t even start. Watching you made me realize this….you may say you are not an “artist,” but what I see here and with your other posts- you are an incredibly grounded artist and this is very approachable. Thank you 😊…PS- you even spell your first name wonderfully 🙃!
I love your art, your Can Do approach, not measuring & fussing about. Also it IS easier to get working if the book/journal itself draws you in, so thanks for a fun video!
Michele, I really enjoyed this entire video. Different idea for making the book. I thank I've actually seen this binding method before, but had completely forgotten it. I usually just stitch my signatures into the cover, but that doesn't make a reusable cover. Interesting idea to make little watercolor books out of scraps of wc paper. Great idea. Keep having fun and sharing it with us.
I’ve been dying to make my own watercolour sketchbook/journal but the cover looked like such a pain in the butt. This slide in cover is absolutely brilliant!!! I’m going to go watch Lynn’s video now too👍 I love your cover!
Thank you for the awesome idea. Your unedited video is so refreshing and honest! Dont apolgise for this as it add to the realness of the task & demonstrates problem solving. Something I fail at. When things dont go to plan. Your approach to making has inspired me to start crafting again. I cant wait to try this project. 😊
Thanks so much for creating this tutorial for watercolor sketch book. I’m wanting to create landscapes like you did and this video has given me a direction to go in. I’m a newbie and really learning from your channel. 💕🎨😊
Great tutorial Michelle! I am new to watercolor but have made a few journal’s before. I love your ‘what the heck’approach when creating! I’ve saved every video of yours that I’ve found. You are a great teacher and so easy to follow. Keep ‘em coming and thank you.❤
I just discovered your channel and OH! I am blown away! I have been binge-watching everything you do!! From your ink sketches to watercolor sketches to making watercolor sketchbooks! I usually don’t measure stuff either, and I make all my cards, I haven’t bought a card in years. I now plan to get busy this week and make some journals and sketchbooks! Time to stop binge-watching and get to work!! Thank you a million times over for your ideas and inspiration!!
I know this is an older vid but I found your ch today and I'm watching back to back 😁I think your amazing and the things you do are so informative interesting and inspiring ! and your manner is lovely your not patronising ..Thankyou 💗
I love your work and you make it so possible to follow... believe me you are not the only one who can't cut straight even with a paper cutter😊Glad to have found you love your style...
Thank you Michele. I always enjoy your videos though I don't always comment. You are so creative and always give me an inspirational nudge. I've been making journals for a couple of years (the junk kind) however never thought to make myself a watercolor journal. Brilliant! I love your finished piece! Thank you for all of your generous tutorials. Sending much gratitude from Hawaii.🌈🌺💞🥰🙋♀️
Wow Hawaii so cool someone is watching from there lol makes me so happy that in can inspire people from so far away. Thank you kindly for your words now encouragement and support. 😊
Michele, I get so happy when I see a new tutorial from you! This is a brilliant idea and it was nice of you to mention the artist that you learned this from. I've checked out her channel and have subscribed. I love how you used things that one might normally just put in the recycle bin and turn it into something absolutely beautiful and unique. Your painting is so pretty. The ideas here are endless and it's such a therapeutic exercise. Thank you so much!
I’m so pleased to have found your video! I’ve been looking at so many ways of how to make your own art journal and although I’m quite a patient person, some of them are so complicated and would take an awful lot of time and energy! Thank you for a much easier but still very attractive version! ❤
Just discovered your channel and I really enjoyed this video. I love the way you don’t edit, and just share your thoughts as you go. I found it very personable, natural, and inviting as I learned about creating a watercolor journal. It was refreshing and genuine. Thank you!
Bah hahahaha - I can't cut straight with my paper cutter either!!!🤣😂 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 And this tutorial is fabulous, thank you. 💐 Just about to go on vacation so I think I'll make one to practice with whilst I'm there! 😁
Just found your channel. I love the shape of your journal. Your explanation was easy to follow. I've been wanting to do a watercolor journal and i think i just found the perfect inspiration. I love your approach and your style. Lol, i cant cut straight with a paper trimmer either sometimes😉 oh, i was thinking a heat gun would help your drying process if you're concerned about time. Also, just subscribed, cant wait to see what other inspiration i can find on your channel.🤗
I love this idea. I also use washi tape. Its marvelous for nice clean edge, easy removal and re-using. I just did some feathers yesterday after watching one of your videos. I have some really great gold watercolours that jazzed the feathers up nicely. Arohanui from me in Aotearoa New Zealand ❤
I just recently discovered the Washi tape for boarders and love it to. Gold paint just adds the extra yummy lol thank you one day i will make it to New Zealand. 😊
Hi Michelle, This video was an answer to prayer. My family (parents and 6 kids) are moving 1200 miles away. I was wanting to make them small watercolor journals for the road trip! Voile! Michelle posts the answer! This will help me have a fun time preparing for their trip away from me-Grannny. One question: what kind of double sticky tape were you using? I spend so much on those small rolls when making watercolor cards. Oh, and I cut crooked on the paper cutter, too! Thank you so much for your videos. I’m finally learning to draw!
Thank you. That’s such a great idea for them to travel with. The double sided tape is called sookwang. I buy it in bulk of my local scrapbook store. It’s expensive so I usually use it when I’m lazy haha
New subscriber. I also have been binge watching. I use small watercolor sketch books but have seen this idea before. Unfortunately, I never have scraps of watercolour paper.maybe first I can just decorate the sketch books I have.
This is a great idea. I love to work in different sized, quirky watercolour/sketch books and have made my own a couple of times but I never thought of making the cover and then slipping the paper into the cover that way, rather than binding it all into the cover……so much easier and you can then change the paper when it’s full and not have to make another cover. Love it, thank you.
Thank you not my original idea but one i will be using all the time now. I love that it’s interchangeable and you can bing create covers ready for new papers. 😊
I am so glad I found you. About a week ago one of your sketch videos showed up. I guess my phone's reading my mind now too. I have been wanting to draw more. And your teaching is so good for me. I love this style of book too. I'm not exactly sure how you did the binding but I'm going to try to figure it out.
Lovely original books. You could always do your feather pic on the back and make it reversible! I find with micron pens that when you put the cap on it feels 'closed' but if you push the cap again a bit harder it clicks and has a tight seal - this is probably an air-tight seal to stop drying out? Thanks for the inspiration today x
wow you are such a good artist ,that is how i work i just go for it ,my landscapes i just did have rainbow colors in them and its beautiful .i made a couple journals from one of your videos i just found you and im so glad i did ,thank you
Hi Michelle Love this❤️ So, while you were doing your watercolor I was thinking, out lining the green paper and watercolor piece with your black pen was exactly what it needed to make it pop a little. And that's what you did. Perfect 😀 As always I love what your doing.
So great! And again... see you through the whole process is amazing and encouraging. Thanks! Is it possible to do a tutorial on how to dye coffee paper? I like yours the most ❤
Thank you! I like the design! I need to tell you though that I made a baby scrapbook using duct tape on the spine, and over time the tape came loose. Perhaps using score tape on the inside of the duct tape would work? I haven’t fixed mine yet. Thank you for the video!
This is so cute! I might make one of these. Oh and I wish it would snow here, I am running my AC b/c I'm in Okinawa and we only get like a week of cold weather haha
Wow i do have to say as much as i complained about the snow. I do love having mixed seasons. I don’t know if i could handle it hot all the time lol. I bet it is just beautiful in Okinawa.
Enjoyed video and found it interesting and informative and helpful for me to adapt..painting on cover is lovely.what size is your pen? Do they come in different size multi pack or do u need to buy just same size pack?.👩🎨🎨✍💛🇺🇸🇨🇦
I was thinking o that aw well but I can’t edit the noise or speed nor the video and i thought the sound would annoy people. Lol but I suppose i could try it. Thank you 😊
Okay, so they don't make these to purchase? (They should if they don't.) Or we need to make them or find someone who will make one for ya? Also I live out of the country on a military base. Can't leave base unless your flying off. I don't have access to these everyday products. Darn it.
Same. I'm in Okinawa and it's SO hard to find stuff locally b/c I don't speak Japanese. I can't wait to move back home this Summer lol I miss Michael's and Home Depot.
@@cinnamonsparrowdesigns I miss Okinawa! Go to the Green Note. They have an upstairs and downstairs. And usually someone that can help if you need some. (English speaker) You won't regret going. I regret not going there before we packed out. Wanted more of that material paper with the Japanese print on them. OH my gosh! Also on Kadena across from the Commissary they have an Art Center. They don't have tons but it's something.

No I haven’t but that sounds like something I defiantly want to try. Thanks for the idea 😊

I find that painting on both sides of the papers also helps flatten the paper. Yes the snap is air tight which you need with these pens 😊
Love this idea 👍🏻❤️

👍🧡
Can you refresh your dried out pens?
Sometimes. I find the felt ones you can with a little water. The ink flow pen can as well if it’s clogged.
Have you got a plug in close ? A cheap hair dryer would help you dry things fast for the camera.
I was thinking o that aw well but I can’t edit the noise or speed nor the video and i thought the sound would annoy people. Lol but I suppose i could try it. Thank you 😊
