@@8Kazuja8 Yes I have found enough amazing gems on steam to know that there are plenty out there I've never heard of, and it would be great if I knew how to find them.
The Strength of the Sword DLC was due to a mistake with Kickstarter rewards, so they had to put them in as “DLC” to try to work things out, or something. Regardless, the project put a huge strain on the two creators as they got hype and bit off more than they can chew and at the end, one had to leave due to personal issues, leaving one to try to support the game themself. Despite initial huge support for the game, the development took too long and just hurt the Devs, then they had no visibility on the Steam shop so I think they’ve had to give up before the stress kills them. My guess at least. Poor dude. Just one of those bad situations that despite the success and the enthusiasm from the developers, things can still go bad.
Yeah, I think stories like this are why I really dislike how it's common to refer to any Kickstarter that doesn't work out as a Scam. Sometimes it just legit doesn't work out, that's just part of the risks of crowdfunding.
"I really appreciate you" Did that make anyone else sad? The dev must have known how bad the game was, so they "appreciated" you even giving the game the effort to go all the way to the end. Man, I feel like an asshole for laughing at it now.
I hope the dev will continue to work hard to make some good games one day. It’s a little sad to see that but everyone has to start somewhere. I hope a rough start won’t deter them
@@Royal_Fortune Everyone begins from somewhere, after all, and some are less open to admitting their humble beginnings than others. Really hope the dev makes something really good, they have a lot of potential.
Crusader Siegward, Bringer of Hugs for sure! The dev already had a leg up on me any how so I’d say that’s a pretty good start. I couldn’t even learn to script properly and get anything running. There’s potential to grow and I hope it gets realized in full.
The Strength of the Sword Ultimate DLC thing is cause those are Kickstarter rewards, but they couldn't add them without making it DLC. So they had to make it expensive in the hopes no one would buy it.
...There must have been a smarter way to do that. I refuse to believe there wasn't. If there isn't than there should be cause that just makes the game look bad. Steam. Steam! What you doing steam!?
"they couldn't add them without making it DLC."? How is that the case? Makes no sense at all, there is no rule stating that everything that is in the game must be available as dlc.
That's... just how steam works. Kickstarter isn't a part of the steam, so they don't automatically get the content when playing the game. The only way they could of made it different was to code in some sort of content reward system, which would be hard to code and just a waste of effort when it could be done easier (Via the DLC method)
I can personally vouch for LUCAH: Born of a Dream. Really fun combat and extremely good oppressive atmosphere. Also, for those who do play it: make sure to play through it more than once. The second playthrough adds *a lot* of really interesting stuff.
I just bought Lucah like a week ago, a close friend recommended me it and just let me tell you that your cousin is insanely talented and that Lucah in general has probably been so far for me, probably one of my favourite games ever done, I love absolutely everything about it and just everything really resonated with me on a personal level specially most of the dialogues and characters too. It really deserves much much more popularity your cousin is genually amazing. U seem cool too must say!
1:27 " The ultimate technique where I just keep using this one move, unbeatable" So pretty much just like dark souls. 10/10. Also guys I was talking about PvE, of course mixups and such are nice in PvP but it's not that often you have to fake out covetous demon with a quick reverse backstep into R2
I bought Lucah: Born of a Dream on Switch when it released based purely on its visual aesthetics and did not regret it one bit. That game is highly underrated or maybe just unknown. Please people, give it a chance.
I did but ended up refunding it The control settings in pc are messy af I was having issues so I tried to change the config, it went to crap, so I closed the game and opened it again, the configuration fucked up yet more. at this point with a single button the game chose a shit ton of random options And I assure you I was not messing with it, literally pressed one button and it just randomly went to shit The game looks cool but hell nah
So, pretty much just a review of Dauntless then? Where does that hate for Dauntless come from, though? It's a pretty polished, free game in the genre of Monster Hunter. It's not trying to be the next Monster Hunter (I understand that the marketing suggests otherwise) but rather to be an alternative. The devs are incredibly active, so the game gets big content updates quite frequently and smaller patches in-between those. I mean, I might be biased because I'm kinda involved with the game (tho I did like it before that) but I don't think it deserves all the shit it gets from people who expect a perfect AAA experience from a completely free indie game without any kind of pay2win.
Heck man, make it a whole Monster Hunter-like(?) episode. Dauntless, Toukiden, God Eater. There are probably others. Sadly, I think Toukiden restricts multiplayer to arena fights, and God Eater might restrict almost the entire game to arena fights not sure about its latest entry.
Lucah: Born of a Dream is actually really good. Unique art and mechanics, with a lot of depth to boot. I'd play it more, but I suck and my laptop sucks.
Reminds an awful lot of Hyper Light Drifter, and since that was a superb game it's probably worth a shot. Though it majorily entices me to start a NG in HLD first.

Tbh it's pretty obv it's a game made by Russians. The "plak plak" achievement confirmed it, pretty much. Since it's translated to "cry cry", like a noun.
Hey, Strength of the Sword is on here, awesome! I was a backer when that game was on Kickstarter, just wanted to mention that the $200 DLC is there because the devs couldn't find a way to deliver kickstarter-exclusive DLC skins without listing them on the Steam store, so they ended up just putting them up at ridiculous prices so they could deliver the keys to backers. Anyway, keep up the great work on these videos man, they're a lot of fun!
There had to be a better way. I refuse to believe Steam doesn't have a better way if handling something like that. Steam, why, why yo do this to these poor devs? Why?
@@zeterzero4356 I mean, can you name a Steam game with de-listed DLC? I sure can't. But think of all the pre-bundle season pass dlc options that have been eclipsed and made obsolete by steam bundles, and yet the original season pass dlcs are still listed for purchase on the store as well. XCOM 2's Reinforcement Pack is a prime example. The XCOM 2 collection bundle currently contains the reinforcement pack, the original season pass for XCOM 2, which itself is made up of three other dlcs, each also sold separately. The season pass has been completed for years, and it only makes sense to remove the reinforcement pack from the store and convert it into a bundle, so that customers don't end up getting confused or buying the same dlc twice. But 2K/Valve don't do that. If a kickstarter game wants to give digital DLC backer rewards, but de-list the items from the store, I don't know of a way to do this directly with valve. It usually involves a 3rd party account and unlocking content outside of the steam platform, which is another logistical nightmare for a small developer in and of itself.
The algorithm likes this video. This was early into my recommended. You're probably going to continue blowing up. Good job man. I love the Souls Series too.
It is pretty good, got it a day ago and, yeah, it is a fun, short and very promising thing, if the author makes another game like this (hopefully that is longer with help of more workers) this could be quite interesting.
@@camilofuentes7056 The first half of the game is very good and the boss battles are very fun, combat is smooth if unnecessarily difficult with some weapons (in my experience), though I found the story particularly lacking in the endgame. Worth the money and has replay value but don't expect a masterpiece, I suppose.
To answer your question about the Strength of the Sword Ultimate DLC. I was a kickstarter backer and I have those skins because the devs sent me the codes to redeem them so I never even realized they were priced in the first place until this video. I'm not exactly sure about the logistics for why they implemented it like that, but it was developed by 2 dudes who know nothing about game publishing, they just wanted to make a cool game. Which they did! And then they split up as a result of the mess this game's development became after the kickstarter because they didn't use the money they raised to hire someone to manage the business end of things. It's kind of a shame because this game was basically done like 4 years ago, it just needed more content and someone who actually understood how to ship a game (it doesn't even have a physical version).
They put it like that because they didnt wanted other people getting it, they just wanted the kickstarters to have it, or that is what other comments say, which is actually "fits" what you said, so i guess this "puzzle" is now solved.
@@bookofpayne Oh I didn't mean it in the sense that I was expecting it to ever have one. I was moreso referring to how the lack of a physical release should have made the process of launching their game significantly less difficult from a logistics standpoint. Hosting a game digitally has so many avenues at this point, all you'd have to do is ask the platforms and they'd likely be more than happy to steer you in the right direction. GoG, Humble Bundle, itch.io, etc etc etc, there's so many other paths they could've taken to get this game launched, but because asking for help was apparently impossible, they let the situation spin so far out of control without telling anybody what was happening it was already far too late for us to help when everything came crashing down and their partnership dissolved.

holy shit that "protect the sister" thing was totally based on a Warcraft 3 map called "protect the girl" and it was pretty awesome! was wondering yesterday if there was a game similar to that
When I saw Lucah: Born of a Dream, I was hit with a sudden certainty that it was related to another game I had played (though I have found no such evidence). Speaking of: The game I thought of is called Nocturnal: Phantasms, and it also markets itself as a soulslike. It might be interesting to play it in a future Steam Dumpster dive (despite it not being on Steam)
You know, there's this indie small game called nioh 2 coming out in 2 day. Its publish by a small company call Sony Interactive. I know its no a famous game and no one is talking about it, and its made by a one person team. I heard the person who made the game is a ninja. But may be you should give it a try, may be you will love it.
I may be wrong, but isn't Bright Memory basically an asset flip? It kind of looks like nearly everything there are store-bought models, which is why your girl wields a perfectly modern AR and has sci-fi suit thing, but is then suddenly fighting absolutely medieval skeletons in the forest. Like, it's using those secondhand models to support a unique-ish combat system, sure, but I still think it's a point worth making.
@Java Monsoon it says in description that if you get that tech demo now you'll get ful version for free, so that seems like a pretty good deal for $7, unless devs (that are supposedly a team now) dropped it, didn't see any proof that they did though, Playism as publishers are also pretty trustworthy
@Java Monsoon I mean, I think that it's fair to call Bright Memory an asset flip, if only to show that doesn't preclude the gameplay itself from being good. Likewise, given that he talked about those pointless DLC for that other tech demo game, I think he could have mentioned this as well.
I play it on PS4 if anyone wants to run the game through. I've beaten it only once (goes up to 10 stages). Beating it actually unlocks new enemies, items, weapons etc. So there's tons of playability if you have a team that'll stick with it

Oh now Im sad :(
welp here comes my purchase
Yeah, I think stories like this are why I really dislike how it's common to refer to any Kickstarter that doesn't work out as a Scam. Sometimes it just legit doesn't work out, that's just part of the risks of crowdfunding.
But why make them $200? If they're legally obliged to make DLC because of kickstarter why not make some 50c effortless skin
@@guytheguy2642 the skins were supposed to be just for Kickstarter backers, that's why they are 200 bucks, nobody else is supposed to have em.
3:03 "This game has multiplayer?" - no it has Mutiplayer

Did that make anyone else sad?
@@Royal_Fortune I'm sure you'll do great in some other field.
But yeah, we'll just have to wait and see what the good dev pushes out next!
Its a shitty translation from a Chinese unity asset flip.
@@zeterzero4356 I agree. It puts a lot of shade even with the reasoning.
Yea ok
"they couldn't add them without making it DLC."? How is that the case? Makes no sense at all, there is no rule stating that everything that is in the game must be available as dlc.
That's... just how steam works. Kickstarter isn't a part of the steam, so they don't automatically get the content when playing the game. The only way they could of made it different was to code in some sort of content reward system, which would be hard to code and just a waste of effort when it could be done easier (Via the DLC method)

I mean, most games don't have a physical edition nowadays. Just triple-a stuff from what I usually see
@@bookofpayne Oh I didn't mean it in the sense that I was expecting it to ever have one.
