    How Pilots can land those planes safely under those conditions is beyond me, great work, and great video. Thankyou

    Those kind of landing are really difficult. Pilots have to be skilled to land with those weather condition. GREAT Video! :)

    That's a great video! Really enjoyed it. People get caught out by the heat coming of that runway. Strange to see people landing past the touchdown zone though...

    Groundeffect!!! Yeah!

    • @Draylogic
      @Draylogic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Ground effect you have to be very closed this is because of high winds and a bumpy runway

    • @rkan2
      @rkan2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Draylogic It wouldn't be the same effect 500m higher up, even with the same winds. The wind is getting "groundeffected", bounced, pressed or whatever you want to call it. With the high winds it just becomes more apparent. (someone should fill in, i'm no aerodynamicist..)

    The first landing too me looked like the worst crosswind the aircraft almost was sideways. Then the second to last landing which I think was a 737 landing was funny because the pilot got close to the runway and Mother Nature was like nope and then he/she got close again and Mother Nature denies him again but third time is the charm and he gets it down. Nice video. Very well done!

    How far down the runway do you have to be before you have no choice but to go around?

    • @flugsnug

      unique username here that's up to the pilot, the type of plane, and the wind etc conditions.

    • @rgiaco777
      @rgiaco777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      unique username here Most airlines have company policies for landing distance. At the airline I work for, the touchdown zone is defined as the first 3,000 feet of runway or the first third of the runway length, whichever is shorter. If the pilot doesn't touch down by then, he/she must go around.

    Anyone know what that 757 in the background at 2:08 is for? It looks like an engine testbed, but who flies it?

    Good thing European airports have long runways, so the TDZ works for nothing! Not to say de 1000ft markings. They overrun but grease it!! Great video man! Congrats!!

    Bravo to the videographer for their expertise in the preparation of this posting. Fantastic job performed by the pilots who must negotiate their precise aircraft landing skills by arriving with everyone on-board safely. Not hardly any positive accolades for the designers, engineers, and construction contractors, whose shortsightedness produced 1980's era air-strip, with apparently not enough forethought about crosswinds, and a rolly-poly landing surface. Large earth-moving heavy grade correcting equipment wasn't a new phenomenon back in the 80's. Kind of makes you imagine a amusement park roller-coaster doesn't it. Hey, while they were in the construction mood, if funding was available, why not construct a secondary runway in a different compass direction, which may have assisted with the cross-windy situation..

      Timothy M This is perfectly normal. Most runways have varying degrees of up and down slopes along their length, properly published in their respective airport charts. It is the combined effect of almost head-on view and long telephoto lens used that exaggerates the effect. I have landed at major airports where on one end of the runway you could not see the other end, hidden behind the up and down slope. No big deal.

    • @irish00011
      @irish00011 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      corisco tupi What you've attested too here, in your neck of the woods, may be accurate, but not so, everywhere in the world. In other words, if constructing a runway without built in, or nature's topography flaws, would be the preferable concept, and it is worth doing, than it is worth doing well, or not at all, period.

    • @coriscotupi
      @coriscotupi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timothy M Sorry but no. I'm not talking about the local grass strip or the local FBO, but major international airports. There are tons of rather strict, worldwide-accepted certification criteria for international airports and if any particular runway doesn't meet them, rest assured that the runway is kept closed until it does. Conversely, no airport administrator is going to waste money doing any more runway leveling than actually needed to meet said criteria, period. Again: what you see in the video is perfectly normal, exaggerated by the camera angle and telephoto lens effect.

    Hey mate,
    Do you live in Birmingham airport? You seem to capture everything cool that happens there! Awesome videos, favorite channel on the web by far the best captured aviation videos ever. You should travel airports and make series with that lens as there would be endless people to buy them. Aviation captured at its best.

      I think that was an RJ-100, all of the Avro's usually land with the speed brakes on. Because of their high wing and anhedral angle 😊

  • @castletown999

    The touchdown zone seems to coincide with a dip in the runway. If you look carefully you can see that the plane might have landed OK if the runway had not dipped down below its wheels. I know it is foreshortened by the long lens, but another commenter said the dips are 23ft. That's a lot. Enough to screw up the smooth touchdown?

    What is floating?

    • @vanagsss
      @vanagsss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Floating is when a plane is about to touch the runway but it just keeps floating, mainly becuase when you land, you try to land softly and pull up, that pulling up makes the airplane just float above the runway without touching down.

    Why dont they put enormous airbag to end of the runways? I just thought about it. Like if you agree. 😎 In case any issue on landing, these airbags could've helped the planes to go slower and stop. *Oh mon dieu, c'est grand idea.*

  • @muzlp
    @muzlp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    most of the time it’s bcoz the pilot chose to cut the power a bit too late or too slow supposedly to get smooth landing. It’s not rocket science if ur aircraft still hv the “energy” with slight pitch up attitude the aircraft would “fly” 🤣 also higher risk to get bounce
