It's tough watching this part, considering just a week or so later after this aired with the whole segment on the HANS device, I watched Dale leave us. I wasn't even a NASCAR guy, but an article about this race is what made me start to better understand how divers most NASCAR drivers actually are in their talent.
I was just a kid when Dale died but i knew that it was a moment that would change motorsports history. Watching him now knowing the story, his history, and my memory of it. Dale was special. I loved watching this clip again.
They would have won that race if not for the gearbox or trans problem they had in the middle of the night. If I remember correctly they were leading the class right before that happened.

LanceCriminal86 I agree, was there working for a lamp team and spoke to Dale Sr. During the race, then watched the 500 a month later. So sad

Rodriguez curve? It’s been the hair pin since I was born 55 years ago!
Can we point out how calm Dale is? It’s like he was out for a Sunday drive

American Le Mans Series. Used to be called that back in the day now it's called something different.
Nowadays this race is part of IMSA WeatherTech series.
@@gran_turismo_fan No, this was the Grand-Am Sportscar series, and not the ALMS. Sebring was part of the ALMS schedule, though.
I kinda wanna see some of the period adverts tho.
Also, I was the 100th Like.
