We installed the Amazon thermostat about two weeks ago. We went to lunch and were gone about 45 min to an hour when I received a message from Alexa about the temp being set for “away.” So you probably needed to be gone longer. So far, we love it!
The Wyze has adjustable temperature differential of up to 3*, which allows the HVAC to run a little longer and cycle less times per hour and this can be a little more efficient and a little less wear on the equipment. I can't tell if the Amazon has this feature but I'll likely just go with the Wyze since I have other of their products.
We already have Alexa devices all over, so the Amazon one was a no-brainer for us. Already had a C wire. Just installed it today. Works fine. Only issue we had was the reversing valve setting on heat pump type hvac defaulted to the wrong setting for us. Just flipped it and all was right in the world. Thank you for the great video and for sharing 😊
I got the Amazon one just after they came out while it was on sale. Easy install. Now I can just yell at Alexa to turn the heat up or down. I also didn't like reviews I saw about the manual control wheel on the Wyze. What ever you pick, check with your utility company. My gas company had a rebate on smart thermostats that paid for it!
You have to buy the thermostat FIRST! And then fill out an online application for the rebate and then your utilities company will send you a check . Some only cover up to $75 . I got the wyze and I got it delivered so I ended up paying $78 . My check came out to $75
I have the Amazon and the geofencing works with no problem. The issue I have is setting up my wife’s phone as well as mine. It turns off my system when I leave the house and she’s still home.
Well first of all great review. I was once a Nest owner for about 5 years but last year for reason. It wouldn’t do voice commands meaning if ask Alexa to off it wouldn’t. I try the step reboot and reset. But it didn’t work so and just around that time Amazon came out with theirs. It was a no brainer condensing. I have a Amazon Alex eco system must say I haven’t any problems. And no CNET I don’t think it’s weird to sleep in the cold. Personally I can’t fall a sleep when the heater is on. Just think about it when it summer 99% of people with a/c don’t turn on a heater at night to go to sleep.
i don’t use amazon products so that one is out of the running. but i like the aesthetics of the wyze one. my current thermostat has a “circulate” feature. dumb question, does the wyze thermostat have the circulate feature?
My Amazon stat only lasted a litte more then 1 year. Just long enough to be out of warranty. I think warranty should be a consideration you did not mention. I don't think I saved the cost of the stat in one year.
Many people don't have HVAC and have electric baseboard thermostats. And now smart thermostats from Sinopé and Mysa and others can do baseboards. CNET should do something on smart baseboard thermostats.
@@superset5 TH1123ZB is under $100.. But my point wasn't cost my point was that the Wyze and Amazon options will not work with electric heat. You must have a HVAC system. In Canada many of us just have electric heat and don't require AC. So we have to buy the line voltage thermostats. And as of now CNET has ONLY done reviews on HVAC based thermostats.
I have a wall furnace which of course doesn't have a C-wire, but that was easy enough to solve with a 24v wall wart. I chose the $99 Nest. Considering the simplicity of a wall furnace it didn't make sense to spend the money for much more expensive Nest Learning thermostat. The Nest is easily programmable and works perfectly with Alexa voice control and Routines. The main drawback to the Nest is Google itself. This is the only Google device of any kind I have so it may have been better to go with the Amazon thermostat instead. Guess I'll never know for sure 😉
I have wyze cameras and like them. I absolute hate my wyze thermostat. I’ve had it for over a year. It won’t stay online. I’ve gone round and round with wyze tech support and got nowhere. I replaced it with a ecobee. Wyze needs to stick to cameras and not try to produce everything electronic.
Can remote thermostats be added to either of these? My thermostat is downstairs but all the heat pools upstairs and would love the fan to equalize it every so often.
Got Google everything. Wyse it is. Stop over-thinking the closing. Could have used more video for how the physical interfaces worked, instead of just stock video pans.
He didnt test real world everyday use. Amazon has wifi drop issue from the phone app to thermostat. The thermostat display info is too limited where it's useless at a glance. Amazon is really a Honeywell Thermostat with a fresh skin.
Beware of these smart thermostats, My gas price doubled the first month of using the amazon smart thermostat. Also the thermostat seems to do smaller cycles on the heating which puts more pressure on the furnace.
@@starmc26 idk why these don't come with a function to remove heating since Miami heat inside a house is a myth no one uses it they would be out of their minds to even turn the heater on at any time. even the winter heating isn't a thing. during winter outside is only between 73F-76F it's basically cool enough that we will only turn on the AC maybe once every 2hr.
This video makes no sense. The tests were largely impractical. Who cares how long it takes to set the schedule, as that's something you rarely do. Using is what we care about, but you didn't show anything. You made some generalizations to conclude "Amazon Thermostat is better". Huh?

FYI...Wyze thermostat can have Voice Assistant access and now how remote sensors for multiroom sensing.

Yes, it does. can't remember the minimum spread in degrees at the moment, but I know it can do 3 degrees.
I'm completely confused at which device won. The wyze scored higher yet the amazon won. Seems fishy.

great video, this is just the information I was looking for
The wyze is so cute!
Overall good video answered all my questions thanks!
Which LED wall lights are those around the thermometer? They look very cool!
NanoLeaf Lines

Can you lock Amazon Thermostat (device) so that no one can adjust or turn on/off device w/out code?
nice quality
Wyze doesnt appear to be able to deal with O/B(heat pump reversing valve) along with W1 and W2 wires. Amazon can.
How can i know which on is compatible with my HVAC system? I don’t know if my HVAC is old or new?
I would like to know if their capable of controlling a humidifier. Do they have a built in Humidistat?.
