my straw doesn’t fit. The whole for the suction is WAAAAAYYY to small for the straw it came with. I’m super duper duper mad.

I am guessing you bought a fake straw lid, may be contact Hydroflask as they have a lifetime warranty.

I assumed I'd hold the straw at the top of the guide and cut at the required marked length... did I do it wrong? 😢

As long as you have used the cutting guide it should be fine. The best test is does it work?
