- Capeside is hosting its annual regatta, but this year is different. Instead of competing together on the same boat as partners, Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Pacey (Joshua Jackson) are racing against each other for the prize. The race takes a dangerous turn when Dawson's emotions take over, and instead of winning, he is disqualified. It quickly becomes apparent that this was never about a boat race at all but simply two boys fighting about a girl, Joey (Katie Holmes). When Dawson admits he still loves Joey... oh, she is having none of that!

Dawson's Creek is a provocative drama about the coming-of-age of a group of teenage best friends in a small New England coastal town. Dawson Leery seems to have the perfect life. An aspiring filmmaker, he soon finds out that growing up isn't as simple and clear-cut as the Steven Spielberg movies he so idolizes. The arrival of Jennifer, the attractive new girl in town, puts a barrier between Dawson and his longtime best friend, Josephine ("Joey")-a local girl who lives across the pond with her pregnant sister and her sister's black boyfriend. He also must deal with good buddy Pacey's obsession with the school's attractive new teacher. Things won't be so quiet in this small town.

Dawson wasn’t always a good friend to Pacey a lot of times, but Joey wasn’t worth it. Think about how Joey treated Jen and Jen had never done anything but be the object of then Dawson’s affection. Not to mention how Joey left Dawson for Jack then Joey left Dawson after what happened with her dad. Also, every time Dawson tried to move on there Joey was lurking. Joey wasn’t no prize because she treated other female characters shabbily. To me Pacey and Andi were a better fit. Andi helped Pacey grow. Pacey always felt inferior to Joey.
