- Academy Award-winning actor-director Robert Redford turns 88 on August 18, 2024. To celebrate, we look back at three “Sunday Morning” interviews with Redford over the years: From 1994, with Charles Kuralt, who visited Redford’s home in Utah and talked about his early career, and his advocacy of Native American art and culture; from 2008, with Rita Braver, discussing his iconic roles in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “All the President’s Men,” and how he nurtures young filmmakers through the Sundance Institute and Sundance Film Festival; and from 2018, with Lee Cowan, at the actor’s ranch in New Mexico, where - at age 82 - he discussed his last film appearance, “The Old Man & the Gun,” and why he doesn’t like watching himself on screen.

I was 6 when Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid came out, I don’t think anyone any younger could possibly know how big of a deal a movie star could be.

He is a big deal. I still occasionally dream about him! I've been to Sundance & hiked to below Timpanogas. There had been avalanches that winter so it was changed below. The mt never changes. A very beautiful place & at a writer's conference. Bern to Park City a few times. I have some beautiful art that I found at a few galleries. I respect him so much for his contributions to film & the environment & ZHE HAS GREAT HAIR! 😄

Didn't know he bought a large piece of pristine land, then destroyed it by turning it into a ski resort.
It wasn't "pristine" and he didn't "destroy" it--at least not most of it. All of that land had been used extensively for grazing. From his initial 2-acre house lot, RR bought 6,000 more acres (as noted in the video). A small part of that land was used for a ski resort; almost all of it was left untouched, save for hiking trails. In December 2020, to reduce his heavy responsibilities for land management (and certainly to make a lot of money), RR sold 2,600 acres, which include 1,845 acres preserved through a conservation easement and protective covenants.
