I hear babies cry, i watch them grow, they'll learn much more, than i'll ever know, and i think to myself,...what a wonderful world....oh, yeeeeeaaahhh!-) ...brings inspiration to those who love to play...the harmonica!
2 great guys and gorgeous musicians. Thanks so much. My sweet gal bought me 3-10 holers 4 Christmas and I'm playing again after a couple decades away. I realized quickly how easy it was getting back into the same musical "rut" I'd been in as a harp player...this time I'm going to learn more (from you both), and do challenging things I wasn't willing to 1st time around. Thanks again for sharing your hard-earned mastery, gentlemen!
this was so insanely cool to watch! I've decided no way would I ever throw my harps in the lake, and I'm going to get Brendans book and enroll in Howard's school instead
I thank god everyday for inspiration from this two highly virtuoso grandmasters. The old blues harp don't have to be just blues. Shame don't have enough Cajun harmonica players alot.
I told Howard that it is depressing for me to see him in concert. I also told him that I get over it in a couple days because I have learned something new. When I saw Howard perform The Stars And Stripes Forever I just about fell over. Saw him with Trio Globo....forgetaboutit! Howard lets me video tape and I have promised not to put it up anywhere. I would love to share, but a promise is a promise.
if you want, ill take em all ;) Insert sig here please! -Guitar for 15 years-challenge nailed -Vocals for 15 years-challenge nailed -ukulele for 5 years-challenge nailed -banjo for 5 years-challenge accepted and on the 3rd year -mandolin for 5 years-^ -Harmonix for a year-challenge approved -beatboxing for a year-challenge accepted and on my 3rd month :)
They both appear to be Sennheiser 441 that has a "super-cardiod" pickup pattern, which is more tightly directional (albeit with a rear pickup lobe) than the more common cardiod unidirectional pattern such as in a Senheiser 421, Shure SM 58 or hundreds of other performance mikes.
Nice... Continued... You both, but on thing I can teach is this: go get a trumpet, bugle, or trombone. Something where you have to push the air with your diaphragm. You don't need to learn to play it. Just learn how to push from the bottom of your lungs. It will allow you to do your vibrato in a couple additional ways. One, just using your chest cavity, and a second using the diaphragm proper. Now, that said, I am going to go practice the jaw and tongue versions.
Brendan has fantastic phrasing, he really kills it. But Howard doesn't even sound like he's playing harmonica, he's gone beyond it. Both have such a great feel. That's not something you get with practice, you have to be born with it.
Perhaps, but I wonder what he would say about it. I prefer to think the only thing people are merely born with is an amazing voice. In order to play any instrument on a world class level you've got to put hours upon hours into it, and I'm sure Howard would agree. Obviously he was born with exceptional musical ability, but I'm sure he had to practice tons to get to that level. If I'm wrong, Howard, let me know. :-)
@@landztranz Yes of course, he practised obsessively. He probably didn't even see it as practice though, just something he loved doing. But it's similar with sport. Some people practice harder than everyone else yet never make it. The best are the people who were born with natural ability and also work their ass off.
As much as I admire Howard's technique, I really dislike that vibrato. It sounds like a creepy gypsy from the movie Aladdin. Brendan has a nice natural sounding vibrato. I love his phrasing too. The jam that they did at the end was incredible. Both amazing players
ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID GENTLEMEN!
THANK YOU!
Should be waay longer love these things man
two of my favorite harmonies play together!
Oh, thank you for inspiting me to start playing!!!
Two masters indeed! A treat for the ear and soul.

What about Howard???????😃😃😃😃😄😄😄😄😃😄😄😄😄😄😄
Damn, that duo at the end just made me not able to stop smiling
Thank you both for sharing your vast knowledge of the harmonica. Thanks especially for that rendition of "Sweet Georgia Brown". That was awesome!!
Two great musicians appreciating each other's craft

I can't decide if this makes me want to throw all my harps in the lake, or quit my job and practice for 18 hours a day. Probably it's a bit of both.
Wow! I get to learn from these guys ! I love it!
Two of the most technically skilled harmonica players.
AMEN TO THEM!
Greatest Harmonica player, Make me more love Harmonica. thanks for this video.
THE BEST motivational video I seen so far on harmonica. I'm sight!

Super, especially "Sweet Georgia Brown"! Are there are any examples of Brendan playing on Riverdance? I've yet to find any.
This is amazing great learning items!

Can you atleast send me some of them ?
Just phenominal - don't know whether to practice harder, or throw the harp away...
It's ok, they wear out in 6 months and you'll be throwing it out anyway! 😂
Practice
Yep throw it away!!
Do you still play the harp? Just curious.
AWESOME!!!
Excellent! Thanks so much!
These two Men can really play......and theoretically they are also very knowledgeable.
Thanks gentlemen, 👏👏👏✅
Brendan, Howard. I need to learn so much from
Perfect!

what are the microphones being used?
sennheiser

Very interesting.
Thank you very much !
CM.
Can you tell which tuning Brendan is using? Is it PowerBend or PowerDraw?
It's PowerBender, though at that stage it didn't yet have a name.

How many harmonica players does it take to change a lightbulb? Nah, leave 'em in the dark.
just too mind blowing for us normal harp players! ...overblow? ...more like overload
As much as I admire Howard's technique, I really dislike that vibrato. It sounds like a creepy gypsy from the movie Aladdin. Brendan has a nice natural sounding vibrato. I love his phrasing too.
