Yep, and my (our) shadow-follow along would have been less fun without the support of two athletes JUST inside the door who figured out what we were doing, and "Stepped Up". They wore grey and black, may not have known each other and became #teamblackandgray. Thanks to the Video... on the left, at 1:27 is Team Black and Gray. Who RRRR they? #teamblackandgray
That would be my sister and I who came out from Seattle :) You know those moments when you think to yourself “I totally just ran up those stairs like a boss! I wonder if anyone saw that?” Well on that morning the doors to the right opened up and I realized “Oh GOD!! They ARE watching! Better make this plank look f**ing majestic. Also, damn you Laura for so many squats!” Glad everyone had so much fun. DFTBA!
am i the only one who notices the small things that this channel does to show recognition for the muslim community? like how one of the camera people is a muslim woman, and how they chose a young muslim teen to answer some of these questions. my sister even pointed out in one of the videos that john has a painting in his basement of a woman, who was wearing the hijab, flexing her muscles. which is pretty awesome. i mean i know that to most it's really not a big deal, and objectively it probably isn't. But at a time like this, when my community is blamed and ridiculed by our very own president, the seemingly insignificant gestures are the most important.
This was such a fun way to start the last day of NerdCon: Nerdfighteria! And it was so much fun to be interviewed too--lots of thanks to the whole 100 Days team!
Please don't let this channel be over :( maybe you can hand it to other two friends who start it together, everytime a hundred days.. it was really so motivating to see these early improvements that tell you, hey 100 days of your life can make a difference :)
that was such a cool day! it took me a minute to realize i wasn't late, people were just that eager to be a part of this. i was actually pretty early since i was volunteering, but the room was already double filled and starting to splooge out into the hall. so. neat.
Hey John... I know 100 days is basicly over, but is there any way we could get a workout shirt/ outfit that doesn't have F*cking? on it? even if it just says "100 days" on it. I really want to support this awesome inititive (which was the only TH-cam channel I had notifications turned on for!) but even having a sensored word on my clothing isn't going to work for me. I'm not saying take the F*cking Majestic shirt off the site... but maybe add something else?
One thing I absolutely love about this video is seeing the body diversity in this workout. I hate when you only see a handful of body types portraying exercise, and it's amazing to see all different shapes and sizes of people working out together and sharing this space together in this collective investment in personal health. Does my heart proud.
What an amazing experience. I was in the back, smaller room and it gave me such an amazing feeling to see people even out in the hallway following along to what we were doing. Everyone was yelling out to them what to do next and helping everyone out so we could all have this amazing experience together. I love this community and the respect and kindness we all have towards each other.
This was truly one of the best weekends of my life. We had to run a mile or two to the convention center and then we barely made the cut to get inside thanks to you guys squeezing us all in as much as possible. Nerdcon was amazing and this was definitely a highlight 💕
There were a lot of reasons I stopped working out and most of them weren't really great. But watching the series did give me motivation to get up and try to start getting back into shape, which has motivated my spouse to do the same.
The community aspect of this channel and this video is 100 days at its best! I would love to see more community - oriented videos in the days to come.v
Congratulations on the iniciative. As a Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach, I hope someday I can do something like this to motivate my clients and people around them. Terrific job!
Is there any possibility of getting a racerback tank version of the Fucking Majestic shirt on the DFTBA store? I'd love one for my workouts, but tshirts bug me during them.
Hey guys, I love this community and I love the support y’all show to each other, as a non-commenting subscriber I thought I’d reach out to you guys from some advice. I recently went to a counsellor for some ongoing mental health problems as the request of my girlfriend. I don’t handle stress very well and use some less than healthy coping mechanisms to get by. The counsellor said how I could start on a program of meditation to change my brain and thinking patterns but I’m uncertain. I’ve dabbled in meditation in the past to mixed results, and watching John’s experience with meditation hasn’t exactly filled me with confidence that it will help me. So I wanted to ask if you guys think I should continue with the counsellors meditation program or if I should try to find an alternative solution. Any replies would be of great help!
Meditation is definitely something that can take a lot of practice and experimenting. I recommend looking at a few different methods for meditation and trying them for a while before giving up on the whole thing entirely. That being said, it may not be for everyone, so it's not a personal failing on your part if you find that it just isn't clicking for you. For me specifically, I have found that counting down from 100, and then 50, and then 30 and just focusing on counting and breathing has been the only thing that really works to get me into a meditative state.
smileydude64s hello! I'm not a medical expert or anything so I can only talk from personal experience but personally meditating has helped me a lot. I do it every morning ( well, I have missed a few mornings if I was sick etc.) and it feels like quieting the chaos that's usually in my mind, getting some order and clarity, refocusing myself. And then, when stressful or emotionally difficult situations arises, not only am I better prepared so I handle them better, but if they do become overwhelming I can just go somewhere quiet for a few minutes do an emergency meditation session and then get back to the situation calm and ready to face it. So I would definitely recommend it. I see it as exercise for your brain/mind. But of course, except for water and oxygen, there is nothing that works on everyone on the planet so if after keeping at it for a while you feel it doesn't work for you, then you should talk about it to your counsellor and see if there's something else you could try. Just a tip though: give it your all even if you're not convinced and keep at it for a while to get comfortable. Then you'll see if it works or not. In the beginning I was uncomfortable with it: I would giggle. I also fell asleep a couple of times. And then I got anxious while doing it that I wasn't doing it right ("wait, should I visualize my body's movement as I breathe in and out or just focus on the feeling of it! Argh I'm thinking and losing my focus again!"). So yes, like anything it's not easy and doesn't show results from the get go. But it is incredibly worth it in my opinion.
smileydude64s If this particular meditation strategy isn't working for you don't give up hope. Maybe your counselor can suggest some modifications. In my case, many meditations techniques are useless because I just can't visualize, and many techniques require imagining yourself somewhere. I can think about the concept of a beach or a forest, but trying to picture it gives me a headache and I end up more frustrated. The meditation/self-hypnosis technique that finally worked for me was one that focused almost entirely on how my muscles felt, and then slowly relaxing them one part of my body at a time. I use it regularly to fall asleep, and it helps with the can't fall asleep and then can't get out of bed in the morning problem that often accompanies depression. I've found with practice that I can also use it to calm myself in other situations as long as I can find somewhere to sit down for a couple minutes (I usually start with my feet and calves, and if I relaxed them while standing, I would fall over lol). The point of this ramble is that maybe when you're done your daily meditation, take a minute to reflect on what isn't working for you. If you can be more specific, it might help you or your therapist come up with some alternatives.
Just for other commenters and the girl in the video, sugar addiction isn't a thing. You aren't doing anything wrong, and it is very possible to repair your relationship with food in a way that will allow you to eat sugar in moderation. Take care of yourselves; be kind to yourselves.
yep, and my (our) shadow-follow along would have been less fun without the support of two athletes JUST inside the door who figured out what we were doing, and "Stepped Up". I was really hoping the interviews with Nerdfighters from NerdCon: Nerdfighteria would provide some contrasting experiences to what John and Chris did during the run of the show. Mostly because 100 days seemed to lack any sense of moderation in the changes that were made. The workouts were SO intense and the dietary changes seemed drastic. I hoped that would be represented in the comments from Nerdfighters. I'm happy for John, Chris and all the Nerdfighters who have benefited from the show, but I'm disappointed with how slanted it is toward intensity over moderation.
In case anyone is keen for more nerdy motivation, there's this website called nerdfitness.com that lets you treat yourself like a game character and "level up your stats" by completing quests and I thought that gamification of exercise and health might be up our motivational alley.
Was thinking the same thing... but then I figured that maybe there were no men that wanted to talk on camera (if you look at some of the footage there aren't many dudes in the class so smaller chance of getting one after/before class when they filmed this section). Most men just don't seem to be in the exercise class demographic, which is silly since they are fun.
Yup, it's true. Men generally tend to shy away from group classes. But hopefully a bunch of them were following along on on their own over the course of the 100 days!
And here we are celebrating this kind of fitness, this kind of eating and this kind of mental health. The danger of telling teenagers how to behave lies within. In addition to the odd way of confessing you mental disorders.
I thought I was solidly part of the demographic that this channel was targeting, but after watching those testimonials, I'm realizing I'm a bit of an outlier.
As one of those people I'm sad you feel this way! The target demographic of this was far and wide, and the testimonials are just a small subsection of people who volunteered to be involved. There 100% were other people like you who followed along. Plus...nothing is wrong with being an outlier. I still feel like one just because I didn't accomplish physically what everyone else did. To each their own!
So, I wasn't trying to be critical, I was more or less making a self deprecating joke as someone who is more or less the same age and place of life as John and Chris. Kudos to everyone else who followed along during the series, and who participated at NerCon!
At the same time, NerdCon had a specific demographic, and within that was another (relatively) small demographic able or willing to go the morning exercise session. We're looking through a very small lens here so who knows where we all truly lie in this world of 100 days.
hey, i couldn't help but notice how the vast majority of the audience in the video is white. I'd like to know why and I know Hank and John care about diversity in nerdfighteria so this comes as a surprise for me.
Shout out to all of us who planked on the MARBLE floors in the hallway!!!
So, so impressed! Y'all are the best.
Hell yeah!! You guys ROCK!

Great idea! 😉

I can honestly say this was one of the best mornings of my life.

Michael Aranda and Stefan Chin for 100 Days: Lap 2!
What, "Fitness for Nerds" was posted almost SEVEN YEARS AGO? Woah, I feel old now.. 😅
This was my favorite part of Nerdcon! So happy to revisit it.
I know the 5k was the end goal but I think this community workout is an even cooler culmination. 100 Days at its best. :)
*10k
Oooh, what a bad mistake!! 10k, 10k! Thanks, Kieran.
No problem, Katrina! :)

Have you seen the DFTBActive section of the store? None of it is 100 Days specific, but I'd be willing to call it close enough.

such a great idea to do this together
Thanks for letting me be a part of this and for the inspiration for 100 days. Here's to 100 days more!
It's so great to see how people's lives have changed because of this series.

humble brag of the day is definitely being able to say that im in the thumbnail of a john green video (what a wonderful morning this was!!)

I learned to do pull ups and I started boxing which is fun but so exhausting

Terrific job!
every time there's a new video on here, i just get so excited!
I like how you included the mind-body connection with the addition of meditation.
It was wonderful to hear from fellow Nerdfighters!

So many cute Nerdfighters! This is so cool. Amazing that 100 Days has inspired so many to get healthy.
thank you John for inspiring us to talk care of our physical and/or mental health XD
This shouldn't make me so happy but this makes me so happy

really great video and series in general, I really appreciate the diversity in the one though :)
thank you!!!! very inspiring and motivating
chris walking in after laura makes her look so freaking tiny
The only way I'd be entirely comfortable in a group-workout would be in a hall filled with nerdfighters. This enviroment must've been awesome!!

How did John make working out and being healthy a higher priority???!
Great video! =D This is such a good thing! =)
That was a great morning! Though I probably should have packed some workout clothes.
The best along the lines for food as long you have fiber.

I've come to realize most fitness class/programs devote a lot of time to just finding ways to make doing tons of squats less boring.
Hey John! Love the F#cking Majestic shirts, is there any chance of getting it as an exercise shirt like the DFTBActive shirts? That would be great!
it makes me really uncomfortable to see John beeing more fitt and especially more flexible then me now. Also Congratulations John!
I was told that I could not join Fitness For Nerds because it was too full :( So sad I missed what seems like an amazing experience!
Omg more content!
What fabric is the F>>king Majestic shirt made out of?
A big high five to all those who have taken on their health (of all types) and are nerdfitnessing it up! :D

This seems like it would have been really cool to be at.

High fives to us all watching this whilst eating an apple instead of a cake.
Ahhhh I was there but the room was too full but the time I got there :((

where are the men?

Yup, it's true. Men generally tend to shy away from group classes. But hopefully a bunch of them were following along on on their own over the course of the 100 days!
well there is also the fact that there are more female Nerdfighters to beginn with (at least when i recall the surveys correctly).
And here we are celebrating this kind of fitness, this kind of eating and this kind of mental health. The danger of telling teenagers how to behave lies within. In addition to the odd way of confessing you mental disorders.
