I saw Joanne Shaw Taylor debut in the USA at age 17 in 2002 at the Haymaker Music Festival in Virginia. I was backstage watching guys like Robert Randolf, Bruce Hornsby and Steve Kimock with their jaws on the floor listening to the voice of a seasoned older black blues singer and guitar chops worthy of the best of Chicago's West Side come out of a wisp of a British blonde teen. She has never failed to deliver any time I've listened ever since.
This is where the true guitar slingers are today. They came back to the blues. Today's rock and roll players don't want to put in the time to learn the instrument. This is heart. As we move in to the future, you will see less and less of the incredible tools of the trade disappear in the U.S. I'm talking about vintage Gibson, Fender, Marshall etc. in favor of pre-packaged licks and riffs that are pasted into place on computers. Heck, many true talents barely bother touring the US anymore. Sad, but true.
There is hope! We have her, Sammy Fish, Kingfish Ingram, Danielle Nicole, Quinn Sullivan and Ana Popovic! Now if only the mainstream would stop feeding the masses garbage.
It ain't gonna happen, Slimey. For the most part, in modern pop, racial quotas are in, and that alone keeps excellence out, especially when it comes to playing instruments in the manner they deserve. Every guitar standard must be set by Gary Moore's work, a master who intertwined every genre into songs to make them his and his alone, as he did with this amazing piece: “The Messiah Shall Come Again” (Originally written and sung by Roy Buchanan [1939-1988], this is Gary Moore’s amazingly innovative version; places him exactly where he ought to be: The Greatest Guitarist Ever and the standard by which to judge all that come after him.) th-cam.com/video/7k07j7LcLqw/w-d-xo.html
Why is this beautiful Woman not a household name I have seen all the greats and she is now part of that list. Just complete right to the soul with a drill bit she gets in deep and she just doesn't let go amazing.
This woman can really play! A serious talent, right up there with the best I have ever heard on the guitar, but then that voice, oh gods that voice! She really is the complete package :-)
A few years back, I caught her at our local Hard Rock Café, headlining a charity gig for breast cancer research and treatment. She'd already played a two-hour gig earlier that evening, but came along and gave us about that time again...of flawless, fantastic blues-rock, with her guitar style somewhere between SRV, Albert Collins and Bonnie Raitt, mingled with her voice somewhere between that same Bonnie and (gasp) Aretha...
...with a depth of both feeling for and knowledge of the blues that kept several hundred of us spellbound from start to finish. I cannot speak highly enough of this woman, as person or musician.
Don't leave out Carolyn Wonderland... she's an amazing singer and guitarist also !! ( And Joann Shaw Taylor is from U.K, Carolyn Wonderland is from Texas )
Christine Klusovsky I've been watching/Listening to her for several months now and I have to be honest. I think she is The Best I've ever seen/heard Period, and it hurts my male pride to say so but I think she is even better than my top 3 SRV, Rory Gallagher, and Gary Moore. And Sorry, Jimi H. you were amazing and Unique but she is better than you too.
I just got turned on to Joanne through the "Blues Channel" on Amazon Prime. I LOVE her ! She definitely has the blues deep in her soul. This is one of my favorites, Thanks !
Outch! I've been watching this video many times now and all is absolutly incredible! What a feeling in the intro and the solo! And this voice! Johanne you are my favorite blues singer!!!
I love "what" she plays...and "how" she plays it...I love her and how she is preserving the "blues." I wish I could tell her that in person...and give her a great hug and kiss...she is "gifted." I love her!
WoW!!! nothin but true Respect for this Lady. I know i hear some SRV in there some where! certainly woke me up & a instant fan ta boot. and I've been in this long enough (gulp) to be your granpa(man that was hard ta say) Great set Mam!!!! Peace, DaKwala
Good god miss Molly, just watch this again. It's hard to get past the beautiful blonde hair, so I closed my eyes. But damn she can play. And bless the gals who are keeping the blues alive.
OMG! Thank the heavens I found this amazing talent! Nothing in this world is more appealing than a Woman playing Hot-n-Tasty licks on guitar! Thank you! OMG! You have a voice too! I am in Love!
Baby, I'm featuring your album "The Dirty Truth (Deluxe)" on our website and Kiosks for three weeks once we hit your 3/25/2016 release date. The best live blues rock I've heard since Stevie. Your style and soul needs to be shared with the world. You make me as happy as listening to Steven Tyler the way your bluesy vocals assault the mic! How refreshing! 'Bout damn time to see a long overdue Diamond. Well done Jo and thanks!!
WOW ... this young lady is awesome! She is enjoying every single note ... and she looks as if she's having a sexual connection to her guitar ... love the smile, the emotion and energy she's radiating! Samantha Fish ... as great as you are ... "Look out" cause the "British are coming!" 😎👍👍
Bud Wiser probably? female? how about Absutively, Posalutely! with no gender designation, or limitation. I keep trying to think of my favorite Rockin' Blues Guitarist surpassing, or even equaling this performance and in all honesty I can't come up with anyone who can equal it. She is just 24 here, but I've heard her in interviews say her dad, and maybe even her mom? played guitar and she started to play classical guitar at like 7 or 8, and electric at 13 so even by this time she's been playing longer then many, or most of the greats at her age. That might help to account for just how Good she is.
@@georgerusch4972 ... Joe Bonamssa... of course he's also a Blues guitarist! As much as I love Joanne Shaw Taylor's playing and her skills, there is a Rock guitarist named Joe Satriani that comes to mind that she can't match ... " Yet" ... but he's been playing guitar for as long as Eddie Van Halen did before he passed away. Then there's another Blues guitarist by the name of Kenny Wayne Sheppard ( who followed in the footsteps of Stevie Ray Vaughn) as far as playing skills she can match Stevie Rays skills but Kenny Wayne Sheppard is just a smidge better than Joanne! I will say this in closing ... each guitarist I mentioned is great in there own way because each one I mentioned put their own " Twist " into their playing skills" which makes them awesome at playing guitar!
Absolutely,Orianthi is too busy destroying her career/reputation by following this washed up alcoholic from Bon Jovi around like a little puppy, anyway, who cares, Joanne rocks, looking forward to the new album later this month.
James R. Hellmsly Sorry! We have claimed Her as a Forever Detroiter! We ain't Never giving Her back. She has already been crowned The Grande Dame of Detroit!
I saw Joanne open for Joe in Bangor Maine. This woman absolutely blew my doors off!!!!!

Saw her on Sunday! On her 2018 Tour. Absolutely superb!
She is really good and adds enough of her own twist while remaining authentic. Reminds me of Hendrix playing Red House live.
Excellent - Very talented guitarist. That voice is amazing!

I love "what" she plays...and "how" she plays it...I love her and how she is preserving the "blues." I wish I could tell her that in person...and give her a great hug and kiss...she is "gifted." I love her!
