There is hope! We have her, Sammy Fish, Kingfish Ingram, Danielle Nicole, Quinn Sullivan and Ana Popovic! Now if only the mainstream would stop feeding the masses garbage.
It ain't gonna happen, Slimey. For the most part, in modern pop, racial quotas are in, and that alone keeps excellence out, especially when it comes to playing instruments in the manner they deserve. Every guitar standard must be set by Gary Moore's work, a master who intertwined every genre into songs to make them his and his alone, as he did with this amazing piece: “The Messiah Shall Come Again” (Originally written and sung by Roy Buchanan [1939-1988], this is Gary Moore’s amazingly innovative version; places him exactly where he ought to be: The Greatest Guitarist Ever and the standard by which to judge all that come after him.) th-cam.com/video/7k07j7LcLqw/w-d-xo.html
This is where the true guitar slingers are today. They came back to the blues. Today's rock and roll players don't want to put in the time to learn the instrument. This is heart. As we move in to the future, you will see less and less of the incredible tools of the trade disappear in the U.S. I'm talking about vintage Gibson, Fender, Marshall etc. in favor of pre-packaged licks and riffs that are pasted into place on computers. Heck, many true talents barely bother touring the US anymore. Sad, but true.
Why is this beautiful Woman not a household name I have seen all the greats and she is now part of that list. Just complete right to the soul with a drill bit she gets in deep and she just doesn't let go amazing.
I saw Joanne Shaw Taylor debut in the USA at age 17 in 2002 at the Haymaker Music Festival in Virginia. I was backstage watching guys like Robert Randolf, Bruce Hornsby and Steve Kimock with their jaws on the floor listening to the voice of a seasoned older black blues singer and guitar chops worthy of the best of Chicago's West Side come out of a wisp of a British blonde teen. She has never failed to deliver any time I've listened ever since.
I just got turned on to Joanne through the "Blues Channel" on Amazon Prime. I LOVE her ! She definitely has the blues deep in her soul. This is one of my favorites, Thanks !
I love "what" she plays...and "how" she plays it...I love her and how she is preserving the "blues." I wish I could tell her that in person...and give her a great hug and kiss...she is "gifted." I love her!
Good god miss Molly, just watch this again. It's hard to get past the beautiful blonde hair, so I closed my eyes. But damn she can play. And bless the gals who are keeping the blues alive.
Outch! I've been watching this video many times now and all is absolutly incredible! What a feeling in the intro and the solo! And this voice! Johanne you are my favorite blues singer!!!
Don't leave out Carolyn Wonderland... she's an amazing singer and guitarist also !! ( And Joann Shaw Taylor is from U.K, Carolyn Wonderland is from Texas )
Christine Klusovsky I've been watching/Listening to her for several months now and I have to be honest. I think she is The Best I've ever seen/heard Period, and it hurts my male pride to say so but I think she is even better than my top 3 SRV, Rory Gallagher, and Gary Moore. And Sorry, Jimi H. you were amazing and Unique but she is better than you too.
This woman can really play! A serious talent, right up there with the best I have ever heard on the guitar, but then that voice, oh gods that voice! She really is the complete package :-)
A few years back, I caught her at our local Hard Rock Café, headlining a charity gig for breast cancer research and treatment. She'd already played a two-hour gig earlier that evening, but came along and gave us about that time again...of flawless, fantastic blues-rock, with her guitar style somewhere between SRV, Albert Collins and Bonnie Raitt, mingled with her voice somewhere between that same Bonnie and (gasp) Aretha...
...with a depth of both feeling for and knowledge of the blues that kept several hundred of us spellbound from start to finish. I cannot speak highly enough of this woman, as person or musician.
Muddy Waters 999 down below..Everybody repeats licks..Joe Pass said about 1 night in 8 when he was in a really good mood some fresh things would come out when he was improvising..The rest of the time it's all stuff he's played before..I hope I'm still alive in 10 years to see what this young woman is playing..You are the one who needs to further explore musical knowledge..Music is full of people using visual theatrics to cover up their lack of musicality..All credit to Joanne..Bring it on Girl.
westafoolaway urbantheking I think you mean marry, she was thinking about it until she found out you can't spell, so the wedding is off! I guess you'll have to go back to Robin Hood and his band of "merry" men lol
Absolutely,Orianthi is too busy destroying her career/reputation by following this washed up alcoholic from Bon Jovi around like a little puppy, anyway, who cares, Joanne rocks, looking forward to the new album later this month.
James R. Hellmsly Sorry! We have claimed Her as a Forever Detroiter! We ain't Never giving Her back. She has already been crowned The Grande Dame of Detroit!
There is hope! We have her, Sammy Fish, Kingfish Ingram, Danielle Nicole, Quinn Sullivan and Ana Popovic! Now if only the mainstream would stop feeding the masses garbage.
