When I saw the sword pierce hershel’s neck, I almost cried. Uncle Hershel was a good guy, generous, helpful, amusing sometimes, willing to put his life on the line for others and who loved these two girls. Let’s remind ourselves that it was because of him that Rick and the band stayed alive... This is the first time that the death of a character in TWD has affected me a lot.

I was very disappointed and sad when Hershel passed away but we all knew that it had to happen one day Hershel survived some of the toughest shit ever losing both his son and his wife then going through a zombie apocalypse losing his leg and on top of that going through an awful outbreak theres no doubt that Hershel was one of the strongest characters in TWD series he went through some massive development on the show tbh at first when we were introduced to him I thought he was just another grumpy old man that was having a hard time letting go of the ones he lost but after spending more time with his character I realized how much he changed throughout the series he was the bravest man of them all
UPDATE: I found out the man who plays Hershel Scott Wilson passed away in 2018 I never heard any news about this but RIP Scott Wilson he was an amazing actor 🤲

For me, Ricks *no* is the most heart breaking part. Hershel was the reason the prison was still standing at the time and without his help, Rick wouldn't be the leader or man he was until that moment.
Rick is basically giving them a version of the speeches that Hershel gave him. Rick was able to accept other people and asked them all to work together and move forward. It's what Hershel wanted for Rick.
I loved Hershel, he was a great character. He was like a grandfather to me?

I legit stopped the episode, cried for a solid 5-7 minutes and just lied down in my bed thinking what the walking dead would be like without hershel. It’s extremely depressing. 😭 I feel absolutely terrible for Maggie and Beth though, it was really just michonne and Phillips drama that started this entire thing. Why couldn’t Andrea have killed him that one time in S3? So sad 😞

They both knew what was right and wrong, telling the group what was the most wisest option, and they both ended up dying because they wanted what was best.

Michael is right its the trauma that stopped it. And I think michonne killing Philips (Which is the governors name) is the better choice. they were always the true rivals not Rick and Philips.
ExplosionArtist because she is a way up the other side of the courtyard were Daryl and Carl were she tried to get a shot on him but I guess they all panicked as well.
She was shocked, and Rick shot him first and then she couldn't get a shot on him after I'm guessing. Plus her eyes were probably filled with tears so she couldn't aim.

This actually made me emotional after watching the episode, because I haven't heard about the series since 2015, I first heard about it when my friend influenced me to watch it but all these years from 2015, I only watched Season 1 and Season 5 (but only some scenes in Season 5 I can remember until I watched it all just this day). I'm still on Season 5 and all the deaths I saw is all familiar, 'cuz I remember watching death compilation in the series back when it's year 2015 and one of it is Hershel's death
What’s worse is that Beth dies in the hospital not too long after this, so she’s basically lost them both in the span of about a week

I agree, I just finished watching twd 2 days ago and I noticed when I'm at season 4 since Herschel's death rick became different up until season 5 and I agree too this was it's peak the atmosphere and tone of this show changed after this episode it's like the world we knew isn't about walkers anymore it's about the people now.

If im being honest , Hershel’s death is way more sadder than Glen’s death to me , Glen did get his head smashed by Negan and that was horrieble but Hershel literally got half his neck cut and was stayng their on the ground suffering from the pain and then The Governor cut his head off , that was really brutal.
The Governor was more evil than Negan ever was , and beside’s Negan killing Glen and Abraham was kinda fair considering that Rick and the group attacked them first and killed a lot of savior’s while Negan only killed two of them , but The Governor on the other hand , he attacked Rick and the other’s for no reason , ever sience season 3 he was trying to kill them and then he kidnaped Hershel and Michonne to use them to get the prison wixh he was probably still going to kill them cause he was a manipulator and pure psychopath.
Negan was lawfull evil and pretty reaseneable , while The Governor is pure chaotic evil.
