Rise and fall has come in the lives of almost all singers. No singer could escape from it. Even Muhammad Rafi, Hemant da, Manna Dey, Mukesh and some other female singers faced the same situation too. The only difference is that some faced it little earlier and some later. But making a comparison of one singer with another will be unfair. All singers gave their best when they were on peak. Every single flower has its own beauty. Talat Mahmood's tone was heavenly and full of pathos.
Talat Mehmood and Mohammad Rafi are my favourite singers, they can't be compared at all. if Talat mehmood voice moves you , rafi saib's voice makes you excited.
Nice presentation, to my knowledge “chal ur ja re panchi was first sung by Talat jee” and afterwards by Rafi Sahab. I met with Talat Sahab at his residence on 1st sept. 1988 and talked to him for one hour and 15 minutes. Also I sang a song before him “ Ashkon mein jo pays hai” and Talat Sahab commented that I am listening to my own voice is mein soz bhee hai Kampan bhee hai aap ne kahan se Seekha , I answered that as I grew with understanding your voice has looked after me motherly and transformed my life. Talat’ voice is a Voice of God. Talat Sahab further said if a single person is transformed then my singing is a great success. Thanks Faraz Sahab.
I like your presentations. The personalities that you talk about are very admirable and your 'andaaz-e- bayaan is very likeable. Please keep up the good work.
@@FilmyFaraz Talat was a different type of singer mostly sad songs at slow pitch he used to sing but no match with Rafi sb he could sing in every pitch with a soothing voice which not any singer could match or no one in future will sing like Rafi he died in 1980 look now in 2024 if you hear his songs so refreshing soothing no comparison he was just unique
Both had beautiful and very attractive voices! Talat Mahmood, Mukesh, Mohammad Rafi, Hemant Kumar, etc. were all golden voices in that period. Each singer gave super songs, but Mohammad Rafi stood out because of his versatility. Late 40’s to early 80’s was the golden era of Indian music and Mohammad Rafi was the leader, and he was the best!
No comparison with M Rafi with any other singer...Rafi was the best .Talat has few gazals only.so Rafi is the best greatest singer of all time... May Allah the greatest bless him good place in Heaven...Aamin.
No doubt Talat ji was Legend... But Rafi sb was ultra legend. As his voice was suited for every genre gazal, sad, funny, loving, comedy, qawwali etc. ❤
Just listen to" Chal ud ja re panchi" sung by Rafi sahab & Talat sahab. Even a person with poor knowledge of music will accept that Rafi sahab was miles ahead of all other singers put together.
Comparison is not logical as ghazal is domain of Talat Sb and Rafi Sb,s versatility is unmatchable also Talat,s voice was very special and meant for special people and Rafi,s voice was meant for the world over listeners
Talat had an exquisite voice till the early 60’s. Then it deteriorated quickly. Rafi maintained his voice quality till the mid 70s. In the 50’s Talat sang some of his best songs. Rafi’s voice doesn’t compare with Talat’s 50’s voice quality. Rafi had a very clean, versatile voice but Talat’s had that tenderness and silky feel and subtle emotion that Rafi couldn’t equal during Talat’s best days.
I am big fan of Talat Mehmood, but would accept that Talat voice was not made for high notes and that was the only limitation in his voice, otherwise his voice was addictively silky and melodious. On other hand Rafi's voice was equally melodious on Low as well high notes and from the day 1st Rafi Sahib voice was extremely melodious and always had a bola bisra effect which u won't see in any other voice during late 40 and early 50's singers. Muhammad Rafi voice was superbly used by the ultimate Maestro Naushad in 50's and that was the only voice who could do justice to music composed by Naushad especially in high notes i.e. O dunya ke rakhwaley, bedard ko a dil yaad na kar, Insaaf ka mandir hai ye, meri kahani bolney waley and many many more. I personally prefer Rafi Sahib 40's and 50's voice than his late 60's or 70's voice.
Talat time songs were soft, sort of Ghazals. the music/tunes too used be soft, all changed with time. By the time Mukesh came and Rafi came, intensity and variations started as there were more films, more actors, last powerful singer was KK. We should be happy to have a wide spectrum. k.L. Saigal, Manna Dey had their great contributions.
Fact is, HMV took up a project of recording one hit song of an eminent singer by another big one. Hence TM singing Chal ud jaa. It was before the cassette era. The project was soon shelved.
Janab Haji Mohd Rafi Saheb, the best singer of all time and the most humble human being. No comparison. The Master was so much more versatile as compared to other singers.
Half of 50's i.e. 1950-55 belonged to Talat Mehmood. All top heroes had Talat Mehmood's voice during this period like Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand Sunil Dutt etc.
Chal ud ja re panchi was recorded first in the voice of Talat sahab, but the producer and director of the film Bhabi insisted to have the song in Rafi' Sahab's voice.Later the song was recorded in Rafi Sahab's voice .Same thing happened in film Aadmi where Talat Sahab's voice was replaced with Mahinder Kapoor Sahab's voice .
Choice of the judges is something else and underlying prejudice and discrimination deprived not only Madan Mohan but also Talat Mahmood and it is a black spot on the face of film fair award.
Two greats cannot be unparalleled at the same time or in the same profession.....then......it is obviously Rafi saab who surpasses all his contemporaries...👍😏
No comparison. If you put all the male playback singers from the Sub Continent on one side and Rafi on the other , Rafi wins 99.999 % to 0.0001 . Rafi's voice is unparalleled.
