Because lime only hardens to a depth of 1 inch, I always use small stone to fill is out. When it's drying, I use a churn brush to get a rough surface finish. I also work it over with a paintbrush handle.
Sorry to drop the news but building lime is mixed with sand to create a mortar. What you've done here is mix plastering lime into a paste and pointed with it.
I have a granite house in Ireland and have already removed all the old lime plaster from the walls showing up the granite. I was thinking of pointing it in lime plaster but with a black dye in it as it will show up the granite it being of a lighter colour. But I have a problem in the living room down stairs in that there is only one window in the room which does not let in enough light. I was thinking of completely lime washing it so that any light that comes in will reflect off the white lime and add more light to the room. What do you think. The reason I am doing this is money is needed for many more things in the house so need to cut costs but still do a good job.
I don't no if I am right or wrong but any pointing I have done I have pointed so much then will a bucket of water and a sponge and wiped the stone after to clean it up and also run the sponge over the work I have done to get a cleaner finish.
Don't worry what people say you are doing fine if you are planning on getting serious with more filming maybe use a tripod so have a better shot!..otherwise hat off to you!
Thank you, I had only just started doing videos and I am not very good with tek etc, but when I needed to watch a video on how to do this I could not find one, so I thought I would have a go and make one.
Why do people post a good video and ruin it by putting annoying music on and making it so u can't hear what there saying and now I have a headache from that stupid music. The only mason I have found on here that doesn't play stupid music is Mike Haduk,,he is awesome and you can hear his every word,,the only thing I could here in this video is Dahhhh dahhhh dahhh dahhhhh dahhhhhh and now I can't get it. Out of my head,,yyyyyyyyyyy do people make a how to video and play horrible music I just don't get it,,It would have been a good video if I could. Hear anything you were saying,,,kill the music because it killed your video and if you have to play music put on something good like Bob Seger or Springsteen,,,,or Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew and the Dubliners at least then you could call it a music video,,you could have had an excellent video but once again another too video killed by bad music,,no music should be playing in a how to video,,people want to know what you are saying,,go to the best,,Mike Haduk he's the only one I've come across that doesn't play frikinnnnnn music,,he just talks and shows you how to do masonry which is what your suppose to do,,kill the musiccccc c c c
I have always been told not to flatten lime mortar but tamp it in with a stiff brush to make the surface rough so it breathes
You are correct. Tamping with a stiff brush opens the face and allows for carbonation. She missed that step.

A woman makes such a neater job of this time consuming beast of a job. Well done - you go girl!
Thanks for sharing the video.. how has it survuved over the years.
You've done an awesome job mixing the mortar.

Well that's what I thought too , it's a mix of 1 hydraulic / 3 sand , but I think it looks great !

Great job. I haven't seen bright white pointing before. Is it hydraulic or non hydraulic?
great job nickiy keep it up
That hawk is HUGE!
What made you decide to choose white? I love the white look. Shows off the stone more.
Is that a pure lime mortar? No sand?
Good job, you should try a grout bag...and a nice wet sponge to clean the excess....
Nicholas B I have bought a bag to try this out, I imagine it will really speed up job, would you agree .
@@darrenlequelenec2960 Very much so! Watch some videos of people using the bag for some tips, it really helps......
Let it dry on the stone then come back with stiff brush and brush it off ..Nice Job
Use a pointmaster tool to inject the lime mortar into the joints and then tool finish.
Hi sorry this question is 4 years later, but are those vents below your door. Do they act to help ventilation?
Yes they were vents as the bathroom floor was raised so we could get air circulation across the floor.
What is the best lime-to-sand ratio for indoor applications?
Hi, I only used lime mortar, no sand was added, as per the instructions on the bag. I hope this answers your question.
@@nickycreswell8762 Thanks for your reply. What kind of lime did you use? Hydrated lime?
Where to start
Nicky is this just lime mortar without sand ?

Lime mortar no sand?
Excellent job, thank you for sharing!
What no sand that is a first.
injoyed your video thought it was good :)
Doing the same thing at the min but have gone with a darker mortar.
No gloves, Nicky? Careful! Even with waterproof gloves my hands are swollen and very sore afterwards for days on end. What kind of sand do you use?
Hi I did not add any sand.
great job and cheers for the upload. it's a time consuming job if you want a neat finish, but well worth it. bet you wear gloves these days :)
Strange not to add sand !!!!!!!?????
super job.

Good job
I think you done a cracking job but , hydraulic lime and building sand is for this type of pointing its 1 lime to 3 sand should be a good mix
Work "towards" your work. I always tell my son that. Dont pull away from the joint
pull towards it.
👍👏👌
go girl!
It's a buzzard
in this way it takes too long
two and a half years per square foot?
11 minutes of mumbling and you can't see anything from this angle.
shockingly shit !!
Bobby Russell ah don't worry about it. It's breathing though!

Luke Kelly calm down you can clearly see she’s a new TH-camr!
Well maybe you could show her how to make a video, and she can help you construct a proper sentence and use punctuation correctly.
