    Totally agree with your appreciations of extra costs. Pictures are pricey but they have many promotions that end up making them OK priced. we bought like 08-10 pictures and got lots of free usable stuff or extra photos. They are not a must buy but this creuise was my daugher's graduation gift so wanted the extra memories.

    Really brilliant video! Have to admit i rarely spend any money on extras.
    I have so many friends who are put off from cruising because they’re scared of the extra costs...

    It's funny you did this video now, my sister in law wants to do a cruise August 2016 for her 40th and my husband and I have never been. And you just answered all the questions I had about the extra cost! Thank you so much for this! And I will be looking at your previous cruise videos. Very helpful. Again thanks!

    For the drink packages be sure to check out the gratuity/tipping guidelines before buying a drink package. The gratuity charge may be per person not per cabin.

    There are a few tips for saving money during cruise trips
    Look for restaurant special deals. Askonboard or keep an eye out for the occasional alternative restaurant deal to save money on a special meal.
    Book spa treatments on port days. Spas often discount services on days in port or during other slow times.
    Disconnect your phone at sea. Calling ship-to-shore has always been expensive.
    Save on your bar bill with discounted packages.

    New subscriber here, found you because of your cruies vlogs and cruise related posts. Even after 15+ cruises, I still love talking/listening about cruises! After checking out your other videos, I was pleased that we are very close in age, I've been enjoying youtubers who are closer to my age. I've been enjoying your videos!Oh, btw...have you heard of cruisecritic? I remember few years ago there was a lady on a Carnival board, on her first cruise her and her husband went a little overboard (pun intended) spending and her week long cruise spending was around $16K...so yeah, definitely have to keep track of your spending!

    Most mixed drinks are $9-$10 each you’d need to drink about 5 to break even. Plus the cheers package includes all other drinks.....bottled water, milkshakes, specialty coffee, soda....all drinks. For us it’s definitely worth it.

    On the Norwegian cruise line in they are offering the Freestyle Choice
    You get 2 of the 4 choices unless you get the Haven suite then you get all four
    1. FREE Ultimate Beverage Package
    2. FREE Specialty Dining for Four nights
    3. FREE 250 Minutes of WiFi
    4. FREE Shore Excursion Credit
    That's right if you choose the Ultimate Beverage Package, that includes
    unlimited drinks of up to $15 a drink some restrictions of brands and bottles or wine apply.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jerry Vaagen Celebrity has a similar offer. When those offers are available, yes, they are worth getting. On lines where they are not offered, the drink package is over priced.

    I had a really bad experience in Jamaica when my friends and I went off the resort with a "taxi driver" that showed us around the island. It was a mess but eventually we made it back safely to the resort and we laugh about it now but I was really scared.

      There are severaI tips for spending Iess during cruise trips
      Book restaurant packages. You can aIways save money by eating in the free dining venues.
      Do not over tip. Most cruise Iines add to your cruise biII a service fee that covers your cabin steward and dining staff.
      Disconnect your phone at sea. CaIIing ship-to-shore has aIways been expensive.
      Look for drink speciaIs. lf you don't drink enough to make a ackage pay, Iook for speciaI discounts.
      Don't waste your wine! lf you order a bottIe of wine with dinner and can't finish it, ask your waiter to cork it and save it for you for another night.
      (l read these and why they work from Arack Ship Tips site).

    My husband and I went on a Carnival cruise last year and he was stung by a stingray in Turks and Caicos. It was a terrible experience! Be very careful about where you book - ALWAYS go through the cruiseline. Our medical expenses would have been covered in full. Luckily, our insurance reimbursed for most of it, but I highly recommend going through the cruiseline for excursions!!!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Asha Iovin Thank you for sharing. Sorry that happened! That's another great example of why to book with the cruise line.

  • @laureean9785

    Just booked our second cruise with NCL. We tried them out with the Sky and enjoyed our time although others on board were impacted by plumbing issues on ship. We are going on one of their new ships this time. We have enjoyed RC ships but had a poor experience on the Enchantment of the Seas, we had a dirty cabin and the over all ship was not kept up. I always fear over paying for the cruise itself, some times the fares jump by several hundred dollars. We never do specialty dining and even paying gratuities for "free" drink packages make me wonder if it is worth it(yet I still get it).

      There's no way to mention pricing since each line and itinerary offers different excursions and pricing varies among lines.

    I have never been on a cruise! I want to go on one! I always thought the food and tea, water was included in price!! I am so glad I watched this!

    • @AZOrchid
      @AZOrchid 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Food in the general dining areas is most always included. On a cruise we went on with Carnival years back, room service was also included. If your cruise line has specialty dining or restaraunts on board those are what cost extra. Coffee, water, tea, and soda from the fountains in the main dining areas are also included on most cruises too. Basically, if it doesn't come in it's own bottle or can it's usually free. (With the exception of specialty coffee at a Starbucks like coffee shop on board and of couse alcohol) but anything self serve or offered in a in dining areas isnincluded. Hope that helps.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beth Graves Hi Beth - meals in the buffet and dining rooms are included. Coffee, tea, limited juice and water (not bottled) are included.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heather Vazquez Carnival cruises are completely different than other lines. I've never been on a cruise, Carnival included, where soda is included. I would always check about room service being included. On some ships it is. Others are now charging and I believe Carnival may be one of those.

    I can't speak for all Cruise lines but Royal Caribbean now has all their Starbucks drinks included in their Ultimate Package. Still not worth it if you're not much of an alcohol drinker but when I'm on a tropical vacation like a cruise or resort etc. my mantra is if you don't have a drink in your hand you're doing it right so the package is definitely a great deal for me personally

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    MissCrystal, I really enjoy your "Talks". Where can I find your blog? I have been travelling by ship every chance I get since I was 7 yrs old. Which means I am not all that young but once infected by the Sea Bug there was no stopping me. In the early days there wasn't so much purposeful cruising, specially on the big liners. My first experience was on the ss Independence (Approx. 25,000 tons). We went to North Africa, Spain Italy and finally we disembarked at Cannes, on the French riviera just in time for Christmas.

    There's also an option where you can have no gratuity put on your card and you can pick who you would like to tip with cash. You we'll have to set that up with guest services once you get on board.
    This is great if you're a person who may only go to the specialty restaurants and you will tip there. and not wasting your tip when you did not get service in the dining room or if you want to specifically give tips to your room attendant and more than what the cruise line will give them.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on the particular cruise line or if you do anytime dining. With anytime or my time, whichever the cruise line calls it, you have to pay gratuities up front. I honestly don't know why people want to get out of paying such low gratuities when the overall service is fantastic on most ships. And we do give extra to good room attendants or extra great service from a particular person. But that should be above, not in place of regular gratuities. Again, check with your particular cruise line as they all have different rules.

    • @MrPecky

      you do know that the cruise pays their people essentially nothing, they earn their living from tips.

    • @Kpop_Metalhead
      @Kpop_Metalhead 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Milvet Not exactly accurate. it does depend on the cruise line. Some friends of mine work on Carnival, so I can only speak from that perspective.
      And I did say you can remove tips and tip cash for those you want to tip for specified service. Especially if you don't go to the dining room/you only go to Steakhouse on Carnival for example, why tip those who did not provide a service to you, especially if your Steakhouse servers and or room steward is going above and beyond?!?

    I hope you have fun on your next cruise in September!! If you are one who loves the water, just remember that our California water is cold! The Pacific ocean is not the same at your Atlantic...lol In the past, when we have vacationed or cruised in the summer, we always go to Florida or the Caribbean because of the warm water:)
    I guess the upside is that we don't have big bugs or humidity...

Had a question, have you been to the ruins in "Progresso" that is one of our plans. your videos are so informative, thank you very much ;)

    Good morning! Always look forward to your videos! We are doing an Eastern Caribbean cruise in early December with Royal Caribbean. I wanted to know what to expect weather wise to know to pack. I've never cruised that late in the year before. Thanks!

      Rachael Beaudin Hi - the weather should be beautiful! Not as hot as the summer. I always pack a light sweater for evenings or during shows just incase no matter what time of year. It should be in the 80's but you could always check weather.com to be sure. Have fun on your cruise!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, they are all non-smoking. Most you're not even allowed to smoke on the balcony. There are designated sides of the ship and usually the casino are the only areas. We can't stand smoke smell and it's never been a problem. :)

    That card is helpful to have so you don't have to handle cash on the ship, But if your spouse enjoys drinking, and didn't know the card was hooked up to my credit card boy did he rack up my card from alcohol drinks, he thought they were included, I knew they weren't,

    hi. just found your channel and will be subscribing! I've been on 7 cruises, and now I'm interested in vlogging our next one...how do you edit and put things together? should I buy some kind of software? can I use my cell or any kind of camera? any advice would be great. thanks.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ednabug Hi there! I just use a point and shoot camera. My newest one is a Canon Power Shot 340HS. It has better auto focus than my nicer camera I use to take pictures with. I also use iMovie to edit with. There are a lot of tutorials on TH-cam that can help you with that. David A Cox has some nice Apple related videos. If you use a PC, the editing software that comes with it is Movie Maker. I've not used that in years but it works well. You can use your cell phone to film, just remember to hold it sideways or you'll have two black lines on each side of your movie. Hope this helps! :)

    Hi Crystal, First off you look great!
    My husband and I are thinking about a cruise during the Christmas holiday, not sure yet because life is unpredictable at the moment! It might even be too late?! Have you ever cruised during the holidays and what is your take on that? Also, I am from So Cal and wondered where your Calif. cruise starts and ends? I've driven back and forth along the California, Oregon and Washington coast a few times. I think you will really enjoy it! I'm wondering where your stops will be? When we lived in CA, we took a 4 day cruise a couple of times that just went to Catalina Island and Mexico. We did ride horses on the beach in Mexico once, which was awesome! The only other cruise was to Italy, Greece, Turkey and Croatia~ that was a beautiful trip and we stayed an additional 2 weeks in Italy! I'm excited to go on another, maybe something in the Caribbean? I love your necklace. Thanks for sharing~ Wendy

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wendy Bee Thank you, Wendy! We went the week before Christmas last year. I have a video on it. It was on Holland America. Beautiful weather, not too hot. The actual week of Christmas and New Years are THE most expensive, so something to keep in mind. We really enjoyed going then though. It's a popular time to cruise but you should still be able to book depending on the particular ship.
      We are leaving out of Port of LA making stops along the coast and a few days in San Francisco.

      Hello, it's currently only 9am where I am answering your question. I try to keep normal "business" hours with TH-cam and do not reply to comments at all hours of the night when this original comment came in. I'm happy to answer your question though, or you can always contact your travel agent or the cruise line you are sailing with. Always check with your particular cruise line for the most accurate information, but yes, you can do cash. There's usually a set amount and you can add to it once on board. Thank you for watching! Enjoy your cruise!

    New subbie. When I first started cruising I was really surprised about how many extra charges there can be. I couldn't believe soda was NOT free. Really?!?

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lizbetstyle Soda is about like alcohol on a cruise, a big money maker for them.

    • @Lizbetstyle
      @Lizbetstyle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Absolutely, the price they charge for soda is criminal. Before cruising I used to stay at all inclusive resorts so having to pay for soda was a shocker. The first week I didn't pay for the soda package and only drank 2 sodas in 7 days, the next week I purchased the package, drank multiple sodas, milkshakes, and non-alcoholic cocktails every day...and gained weight. I've never gained weight on a cruise before. I am not going to buy the soda package again!

    • @WendyMeuret

      Check with your cruise line before you sail. Norwegian will allow you to bring on your own bottled water, sodas, juices, energy drinks, etc-at no extra charge. -just no beer or liquor.

    We are going on our first CRUISE! April, we are taking a 7 day western Caribbean, on Royal Caribbean liberty of the sea! We don't drink, but will have occasional non- alcohol margaritas, bloody Mary's, coffee and soda. But we are at port 3 days, so agree, with NOT going with drink pkg. What can you get for room services, and is this included? I've heard they bring fresh fruit, to rooms also. Do you KNOW anything about this?? Thanks, Ann

    • @MissCrystal

    We are seniors and we are not the drinking party type. I also would need a room that would be handicap accessible. Are there certain cruise lines or ships that would be better for us? Are cruises that have themes such as certain type of music or lectures usually more expensive? Thank you.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there - every cruise line has accessible rooms and scooters to use while on board. As for an older crowd with less drinking, I'd pick Holland America. I've never noticed themes making a difference in pricing. Pricing depends on the ship and the time of year. Hope this was helpful!

    what is the best room to get for a family of 4 adults. to be comfortable . tsk Can you make a video on comparing rooms.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, each cruise line is different and has different descriptions of cabins. I can't do a video because we only get balcony cabins. No need for family suites or larger just being the two of us. For a family of 4 adults, you definitely need a family suite. Don't be fooled by the term "suite" though. In most cases, that just means a slightly larger than balcony stateroom. You need a stateroom with separate areas. I call them "family staterooms" because most lines use that term. Again, check with your cruise line or travel agent to be sure.

    VERY good job on this video! Do you use a local travel agency in NE Alabama to book your cruises? If so, who? Also, we are planning a cruise this winter and our two sons are going with us ( Ages 10 & 13). +Angela Arellano It's not totally necessary but may be good for your first time. I use one because she's my friend and I like giving her the business. It doesn't cost me extra and she can fix a problem if one should come up. I also recommend getting travel insurance. It's not that expensive and it provides peace of mind.
