I got so caught up with the autobiographical nature of this film that I referred to Roy Schneider as Bob Fosse. lol Roy Schneider is the one who I believe gave an incredible performance as the main character Joe Gideon.
You mentioned several times in this review that the movie starred Bob Fosse, while never mentioning the great performance by Roy Scheider who played Joe who was Bob Fosse and this movie is one of my favorites and agree with your criticism.
Wowwww i meant to refer to Roy Schneider. Lol I’m such an idiot. YES Roy Schneider was fantastic in this movie. Best performance in the film! fantastic on every level
Its interesting you talking about the comedian's monologue beinf used so much - I dont mind it but just saw this again at the cinema last night and was thinking if i could change one thing I'd remove the voiceover repeating that when he's walking around the hospital despairing....I think by that point the audience has that monologue in their head enough that the echoes in whats happening to Gideon would be clear. Again i dont hate the choice but sometime its better to let your audience do the work
I apologize for pointing this out because this is a great review of a wonderful film, but the main character of Gideon was performed by Roy Schieder, not by Fosse himself, though the character is loosely autobiographical. Thanks for the great review, though. Loved it.
I completely understand why you wanted to point that out. The biopic nature tricked me into saying Bob Fosse lol I pinned a comment here in the comments section correcting that error. I’m glad you enjoyed the review Dude!
Doesn't everyone have conversations with Jessica Lange as Death incarnate? Saw this in the theater when I was 12. Interesting choice of movie to take a kid to.
Like yourself, I am not a fan of musicals. I was told about "All That Jazz" for quite awhile, what with it being by Bob Fosse - and I do actually really like "Cabaret", as perhaps it's a bit of a cliché but it's the musical for people who don't like musicals. This film is so unique, a great central performance by Roy Schneider - and yes, you see Fosse's magic at work in this film. It's just a shame that we never got to see his version of "Chicago".
Bro everything you said about this is 1000 percent correct! I adored this film. Everything worked. It's like 8 1/2 meets Synecdoche NY! Have you watched cabaret?
Hello my friend! Sorry for my abrupt exit there was a lot of crazy shit going on and I didn’t have any money so I quit patron. I will join back as soon as I work my way out of debt. Hope you’re doing well!

@@ryebread9299 he was incredible
Incredible performance by Roy Scheider in this film. I got to watch it for the first at my local theatre a few months ago and loved it.

It's Scheider, not Schneider!
Now time for a reappraisal for Cabaret

Lenny is another Fosse film that I recommend watching. It stars Dustin Hoffman.

I still enjoy Cabaret, 1972 much more than All that Jazz.
I dont relate at all. Cabaret is okay but not nearly as creative and impactful as All That Jazz.
