- The official In Your Eyes video.
Taken from the multi-platinum selling album So, the first of Peter’s studio albums to have a proper title and a watershed release in his career. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Absolutely @Charlotte
I keep coming back, I sing along as the emptiness fills my heart
100%. Peter Gabriel is one the greatest songwriters if not the greatest of all time
His voice sells it.
That’s your opinion Charlotte
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
I see your comment everywhere
@@__Ryan_ that’s because there are so many songs that have the same effect. I’m honored that my comment has struck a nerve with so many people
@@__Ryan_ dude let the man be nostalgic about his 80s music.
What are some other songs that hit you on the same level? I feel the same way. One of the great pros of most people being on the internet now is being able to relate on these emotions. Much love.
Nostalgia can be a real bitch.
This is one of the best songs Peter Gabriel ever produced.
It’s one of the best Anyone ever produced
What could more beautiful than a doorway to a thousand churches...
a door way to thousand and one churches?
One of the most beautiful songs of all time. The intro still gives me chills.

"In your eyes... the resolution of all the fruitless searches..."
That might be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

My favorite line in the song.

I heard that in my head as long as my guy was alive and forgot it. So glad to remember!

Last time, I actually loved a woman. This was our song. It's been a long time since 1991.
Peter Gabriel is a musical genius. This song is a classic example of his ability to encapsulate pure emotion in time.
I was lucky enough to see him in Toronto in September! Wonderful
Hard to believe that he was at one time on same band as Phil Collins
He didn’t write the song
@@bouche8503 He sure did. 1985. He wrote it and others during a trip to Barcelona Spain.

Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes

Yes, he is a gift.
This song is so layered and the lyrics so hauntingly beautiful. Maybe I am alone in this, but the lyrics are helping me work through childhood trauma…
Yes. I just watched a video that this doctor talks about how this song to him is about the child version of us. How we abandon that version of us. How to heal we have to reconnect with that child. It’s our younger us looking towards us to be the parents/ love we didn’t have. Listening to it that way has me crying for that child it’s so beautiful.
Keep on the healing journey! God Bless!❤

Definitely an unforgettable song.
I don't think Peter knew how powerful of an impact this song would be on any and everyone.
He wanted it to have an impact on Rosanna Arquette who the song was written for...
One of the best albums ever, not just the 80's. "So" is a masterpiece. This and "Red Rain" just strip my soul bare.
There’s not a bad song on that album. 1986 album of the year! Sledgehammer was the anchor song but the album was “Big Time”👍🏿😀

@@paperclips4113 Say it to somebody else. Hold the person you want to be held by and tell them the lovely things you want them to say. Be the love you wish the receive, and maybe you'll never see the need to receive it.
Because the compliment he's paying is not to a person. It's too an entity. There's only an entire video venerating ya mans that puts one arm up, and the other pointed down. I can't elaborate further.
@michele kasel very true. Nice ass!
Such a raw beautiful song. No auto tune or generic millennial whoop. People often say that things were better in the old days and are clearly deluded but when it comes to music they are totally correct.
The feeling of the chorus conveys what heaven could feel like after many years of suffering. That's sometimes one of the only hopes that keeps me going, on the darkest days

The epitome of an ‘80s masterpiece. There are not enough words to fully summarize the 1980s. While never perfect, such a memorable decade in the course of human history when the world seemed a little less dark. Feels increasingly like it will never come again. 😔 My sincerest thanks for sharing this timeless classic. 🙏🏻
Life was simpler
@@kapa4163for you maybe, I was glad they ended for a million reasons. But send me back to 1980 and I would rule the world again .✌️
We were younger and life was simpler, the internet and phones hadn't taken over our lives yet to make us feel so overwhelmed and helpless about the terrible things mankind does. But there are still good days ahead, and even good music. However, we are so lucky to have experienced it and will always have it, thanks to the internet (that double edged sword). My wedding song, but I swear it was playing in my head the first time I met my love, "The light the heat ... I am complete." It really was love at first conversation. So cheesy, but true. I just knew. And a lot of people thought we wouldn't make it because he was six years younger. Here we are, though, almost 25 years later, still going strong, two boys, two dogs, military life. Keep on fighting the good fight. He's always been the one. There was never a question.

This song is melancholy, nostalgic, and inspires a hopeful spark for the future
Peter writes such incredible music, this is so beautiful. i love his voice.
I found this sound when I was so so broken. When I sing it, I'm singing it to an ineffable depth of being, a sort of unified world soul, anthropomorphised. Still broken held together with a sweetness of joy and sorrow and hope. Whoever you are stay sweet x
"Love, I don't like to see so much pain". That bittersweet line can apply to SO MANY SITUATIONS & fit all of them perfectly.

This song transcends time and place. It's probably my favorite song of all time.
It has been covered a lot, but I think a lot of artists who cover this song miss what makes it so special. It's the worldbeat percussion from Manu Katché. It's the Wolof language and culture embedded in it from Youssou N'Dour.
It's spiritual, addressing the intersection of romantic and divine love.
A True musical masterpiece. ..One of the best songs ever.
The truest love song. Listen to each line and Peter's voice - it is raw and beautiful. I love Peter's music, he's a musical genius and a gift from God. This is also my wedding song. Thanks Peter💕🌹
Probably the greatest love song ever from the combination of music, lyric and delivery. It's probably the most underrated love song also. It was the song at my wedding also...
I'll be totally honest. This is my favorite song of all time.
Transcendent, visceral, my love, my anger, my frustration, being born again in your lovers arms, the quotes about passion are real, you dance in dreams, smile with your heart, turn the key, and open your spirit
This is the greatest song of all time. The lyrics, backing vocals, Gabriel’s voice, the arrangement… it’s all perfect
