Highlights of Surajkund Mela 2018 | Shopping, Food, Dance | DesiGirl Traveller

In this video, I have explored Surajkund Mela which happens every year in Faridabad, Delhi. Surajkund Mela 2018 is the largest craft fair in the world. This mela is organized every year in the first week of February by Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministry of Textile, Tourism, Cultural and External Affairs. This mela was first organized in the year 1987 and since then it has been continuing and getting better and better. This year it’s the 32nd edition.
The venue of Surajkund Mela is in Faridabad and it is just 8 kms away from South Delhi. In order to reach here, you need to take a metro to Badarpur Metro Station and you can take a cab or auto from the metro station. An interesting fact about this mela is that every year the author chooses a theme state. So, for the 32nd edition of Surajkund Craft Mela, the theme state is Uttar Pradesh.
You have to buy the ticket in order to get inside the mela venue. Ticket price is Rs 120/person during the weekday and Rs 180/person during the weekends. Surajkund Mela gives a platform to folk artists to showcase their talent. Every year 20 countries and all the states of India participate in this mela. Large number of national and international artists and cultural groups perform here.
This mela also has a designated place for amusements, joy rides and adventure sports. That makes it a must visit for kids, youngsters as well as adults. Surajkund Mela 2018 also showcases the richness and diversity of the handlooms, handicrafts and cultural fabrics of India. So, come and shop here for heritage crafts, jewelry, handloom clothes and decorative items.
There is a multi-cuisine food court at the Surajkund Craft Mela that provides ethnic cuisine from all over India. Do give it a try!
