    I thought this was a great example of broad strokes coaching - deliver info in 4 steps; the importance of clarity of message, knowing your audience/media outlet, position and communicate your message effectively and tie it all together. Julie has high energy is all - she was a live tv producer. I use my hands often when I communicate. I appreciated the content. Just like all of us, she's a work in progress.

      Your notes we so helpful! I couldn't listen to her when she started talking about personalization and did not personalize her message to Marie's audience. Oy vey. Your notes saved me the pain. Thank you!!

    Cmon people... this woman is giving you golden, detailed information on how to deliver a clear message. It's an INSTRUCTIONAL video..that's why it's long. I thought she delivered the facts and information concisely and confidently on how to achieve this..

    1. Meet people where they are to take them where they want to go - Figure out what the person you are communicating with cares about. That is your point of entry.
    2. Let go of insider jargon and speak in words that everybody can understand
    3. Get rid of extra details
    4. Test drive your messaging on people outside of your expertise and circle (family/friends)

  • @AngelaReuss
    @AngelaReuss 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The best way that I've found to test drive my message is to do split A/B testing on Facebook, not with friends, but with facebook ads at about $5 each message. It has worked wonders for my marketing and well worth the $15 - $35 I spent on it. To put it bluntly, friends and family WILL lie to you, but the numbers from complete strangers won't. Once you get your message right, you will have a base to go off of for the duration of whatever it is you are pitching.

    • @jaek-sparow
      @jaek-sparow 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey could you give a bit more details on that? So you write a message and add a A/B score to it, then you boost it and see what happens? And do people really take time to respond and evaluate? Thanks

    Lots of great tips. Always know who you are pitching. My biggest pet peeve is when someone asks me to write about their company. If they read my work, they would know I don't write about specific companies, I write about entrepreneurial finance, VC trends, etc. And it's always obvious when they are sending an email blast to every blogger in the world.

    The title alone was all I needed. I will keep this in mind as I go through life. Even though I throughly thought out my point it doesn't guarantee that the person I'm speaking to gets it.

    Be nice people. I don't find the hand gestures distracting. Rachel is already doing you a favor here, be thankful. Yes, I agree that her message can be more simplified, but nobody is perfect. So take what you can, and keep your hurtful comments to yourself.

    This was perfect right now! Tomorrow, I am giving an hour & a half nutrition workshop, near my home in Keyport, New Jersey. It is my first ever! I have never given a presentation longer than 15 minutes, and even then, I start to get hot & speed up my words very quickly! Yikes! I know that I have valuable information to share, I am just worried I will not do well and it makes me so nervous 😬 I need to remember to keep it simple and fun!

    Yes, this is all obvious to someone who does presentations and writes resumes and sells something in any form all the time, but to someone who doesn't do any of those things regularly or who is new to this information it may not be obvious, and even if it is - repetition is how we learn.

    I thought this was great! All four points were on point. I especially liked the "meet people where they are" - I call this "getting in their moment." It's all about understanding interests. This is also powerful in negotiations as well! Thanks for the video.

    Mrs Hanfling just seems incredibly nervous, as I would be if I were in front of a camera after a lifetime spent behind the scenes. Public speaking advice is often to use a lot of hand gestures, and she was probably nervous about being on Marie TV and so read some books on the topic before coming on the show. She is not a professional speaker, but she does have something to say worth hearing. Just open another tab and listen as if it were an audio interview, her points are good and well communicated, don't get distracted by hand gestures.

    The hands didn't bother me. Her eyes were what bothered me. Good video, but those eys are a little off putting. It makes it obvious she is faking the energy, when you combine the unnatural widening of the eyes with the "dancing hands" as so many have called them in the comments. Don't dis-value this video because of the seemingly unnatural body language. The message is solid.

    I'm surprised at the amount of negative comments on the video. I've written down a load of notes for a speech I'm doing that I'm improving.
    The two main things I'm taking away are: the idea of opening by marrying 'what is most promotable about me?' With the thing that will reel my audience in. I think that's a nice structure, very clear!
    Also, I'm a motivational speaker, and I am SO walking up to people in the street and asking them if they'd like a 15minute motivational speech (I've done this kind of thing before and people love it). Thanks Marie and Rachael!

    For how credible & experienced this guest is... she sucks. Her hand gestures are distracting and robotic. She is a media producer with 20 years of experience, but she can't get her own message across in a straight forward interview?

    Wow - focusing on the moment and how that applies to the person I'm pitching to is exactly what I'm working on right now. Like you, Marie, I've had a LOT of different jobs, careers and am trained in a variety of areas. But if I get off-track and "casually" mention my 25-year massage therapy career or that I'm still a flight attendant, those histories then become the focus of what the person wants to hear about - NOT my new book or my workshop on helping people create a vision and mission for life. Thanks for another great episode!

    Simplify your message means shorter videos for my channel!

    Simplifying a message might include no longer starting virtually every single sentence with the word "So".

    Oooh, I hate to simply my language although I know I have to sometimes. It takes away some of the impact for me. Even if they "get it" in their own way, I feel I have to walk away knowing they only have 70% of the message. Like, people talk about winning, when trying to win is their problem. They actually want to succeed; move above the fight, not win and stay in the pit. To do that one needs to surrender not submit. The differences are tiny, but huge! I know I just lost everybody right now. = }

    Her dancing hands are too distracting. Also, a great techer knows these points either intuitively or through experience. Nothing new really.

    I really like this show, I find this particular Guest does exactly what she is talking about )sends a double message). Her "Crazy Hand activity" makes no sense. Her whole presence is exhausting to watch.

    Simplifying and personalization is extraordinarily important but she lost me ... not simplified enough ... Marie did a good job trying to pull the conversation back. A confused mind says "no" ...
