I made it to 7min and that's enough. I was given a darche standard awning years ago and considering the retail price I would have expected the thing to last longer than it has. Have already dismantled it once and "re-engineered" the back plate to the awning bag, 2 years later awning bag is coming apart now so will now repurpose the parts for a custom awning on my camper. There's no way I would spend my own money on a Darche product. This video reinforces that point. Thanks for sharing. ps: this is my formula: darche duffle bag good + darche awning rubbish for the price + other darche products no experience + premium cost of darche = rubbish
Thanks for the comment mate 👍 Funny a few people seem to be saying the same thing, amazed Darche can ask the prices they are with with the bad reputation.
Hi from Canada! Your review on Darche was the first to pop up for a review. I am happy I came across this and will be spending my cash on another company! I appreciate your honesty about the product and your no bullshit content and no ass kissing! Subscribed! Cheers!!
Good unbiased review. I've had both Darche 270 and 180 GEN 2 awnings (previous non-free standing version) on the ute, and they have both been great. I've had 2 minor issues. Bag stitching on one and not enough copper washers under 2 of the arms. Both times I have called and had parts at my door in a couple of days. I had a similar issue to yours on a 23zero awning (2 sections sagging and the last bay so tight it was bending the alloy arm to even get it somewhat close to the car. Totally opposite experience with the company all the way up to the higher up. Made out was an idiot and didn't know how awnings worked. The Snowys store was the one that came through after seeing how badly it was put together. Swapped for a Darche.
Hey mate, thank you for watching and your comment. That really sucks 23zero treated you like that, they really have come from humble beginnings starting off selling swags on eBay, I actually have one of their originals still going strong survived our 100km/h head on. Suck they have fallen away from their beginning, seems to be the way some times.
@@Off.Track4x4 5 years ago now looking at the emails. When the awnings first hit the market. Can't comment in what they are like now, haven't purchaced from them since. Hopefully better.
Great video. Very useful. Based in this we have definitely ruled out a Darche 180. Probably pay a bit more (or more likely alot more) and get a Bush Company 180.
we have purchased SuperPeg awnings in our family, we have the 270 deg and our daughter has the 180 deg, both free standing, they are made in Yatala, near the Gold Coast. My daughter was keen on the Darche, but as I pointed out to her, we have never seen one set-up that doesn't flap about. They are a little bit pricy but we cannot fault the quality of them, as they say quality is remembered long after price is forgotten.
Hello Clayton, thanks for watching and commenting. I just checked them out look really nice but I couldn't see if they have lights inbuilt into the arms? I know it's a small thing but it's made camping so much easier, if they don't I'd love to see them add them on.
I brought a xtm 270 from supercheap auto. It was priced at 699 I signed up for membership and got a discount at 499. The awning is awesome I brought some led light strip's for 20 bucks and the set up has served me well.
Honestly mate, I'd take a look at the hardkorr I have no affiliation to them but they are one of the only companies I've have no issues with any of their products. I can't tell you to risk your hard earned on Darche, but you choose to buy it from the Brisbane store
Great review, there's lots to like about this awning, excellent you reply to all comments too. At the 12:28 point the awning doesn't appear to be tensioned right back both ends, would this add to the droop issue? Most stores in AU send you back to the brand/supplier instead of helping but they are happy to give their sales warranty spiel to make a sale.
Hey mate, I'm here to help so will replay to any questions. nearly ripped my arm off tightening it. I was told by an employee that a ratchet strap would help, but void my warranty if I broke it. It's actually illegal for a retail to make you talk to the manufacturer’s. Warranty is actually a made up term that means nothing in a Australian, every sale is sold under the "Fair Trading Act 1989" This trumps Warranty and anyone that sells a product for money falls under it. I will be doing a video this weekend on this subject.
1st. Cheers mate, good job & thanks for doing this honest review, I know it must be hard for you to have to do a bad report on a product &/or experience you have, but it helps ur audience & you did well. The mounting does look solid, but I don’t like the way you have it leaning back toward ur vehicle, in a storm, water will be pissing down towards ur windows & doors if you need to get in the 4WD, also I think updrafts are what torture a lot of awnings, so if it has a slight decline it helps prevent the awning from catching the breeze as much, as well as runs the water away from the vehicle. I like the full length dual colour LED lights, but a big improvement here would be to have a dimmer as it can save a heap of unnecessary power use & gives you more control down to 1Watt for mood or need purposes, also a cig socket adapter with at least 2 decent 5v usb outputs to run the lights &/or phone & battery charging from a cig socket, just to cover all bases in case ur auxiliary light battery is flat. Darche have really stuffed up with this one though & I’m glad to hear you at least got a response from them that I am sure many others won’t/haven’t. Thanks for sharing your experience’s along the way with this one, I learnt a few things.
Hey mate, Thank you for you comment and watching, some really good thoughts there. The first time I called I made sure Darche had no idea I did TH-cam and was using it for a video. So credit to their Banyo store for the amazing customer service. I just wish their product wasn't so bad.
I wish I had a product to recommend but the bushwakka on Lloyd car had one of the bolt rip out of the backing plate. So I'd stay away from that as well! I wish hardkorr did a 180
Appreciate the video. I bought one this week and came on here after realising the droop was absolutely laughable. I really would rather not use poles as I got the freestanding to let my dog not get tangled around them on a long lead. Can you recommend an alternative?
Hey mate, watch my bushwakka vs Darche video, will show you what you will be trading off to have a proper freestanding awning. They are also cheaper, I've looked at alot of other brands bushwakka is the only one I would recommend for the money companies are asking.
Hey mate, a spreader bar would have helped the middle, but then pushed the problem onto the two outside wings. Unfortunately due to the fabric being secured in the wrong place it couldn't be fix. My new one works a treat. Thanks for watching and commenting really appreciate it 🙂
I've been tempted to upgrade, mainly for the built in lights, and I already have the wall kit. Incase you haven't bought yet, don't pay 699 at bcf and darche website. Tentworld do them for $463.97 currently. I bought last year for $479 so not upset.
Sounds like some significant quality control issues from their manufacturer. Definitely a bummer. Darche normally had pretty good QC for overseas made stuff, hence the more premium price. Hopefully they sort it out - bit shit they know there's dodgy canvas out there and they aren't doing anything to recall it. I definitely don't wanna get stuck with one - I have a good size BCF gift card to use up and was interested in this awning ... doesn't give me a lot of confidence though! The Ocam and Bushwakka look alright, but end up being a similar price by the time you add shipping. And like you mention, Darche walls look the best. Maybe I'll wait a few months. Finding a good 180 awning is surprisingly challenging
Hey mate, thanks for watching. I got sent one that the fabric is all correct on. They are a wicked awning honestly beat the bushwakka hands down, I'm hopeful filming a review on the bushwakka soon. But the Darche are definitely not a free standing awning, they can't support their own weight and drop down at the front so you have to put the legs up everytime. If you can look past that, they are amazing
Just looked at the crashpad, looks amazing the arms are done like the 270 truss style, should make them better. Huge downside no lights! For the money that is piss weak the lights on the Darche has made camping so much easier comes with 4 massive strip lights. Bushwakka comes with two small ones.
@@Off.Track4x4 Will the Darche hold up alright with just poles down, no guy ropes? I'm good with putting out the poles every time if I don't need to use ropes. I hate guy ropes haha Although the lights are handy I'm a bit less concerned with them, I have small portable lights from Hardkorr I can wack wherever and recharge. Just want the strongest, lightest, best quality awning that'll last! I'll keep an eye out for more reviews from your channel.
Hello Nick, new awning now should not have the sag. But the awning still definitely requires the legs to be put down. In no way is this a true free-standing awning.
Yeah it's not great, hoping to finally replace this with a true free-standing awnings in a few weeks. One of the big players are launching a new range 😁
I have the same awning on my 4wd, you have a dual cab and your tightening the ends back to the cab, wrong angle and will not tighten the awning, my front gets tied to the front bar of my roof rack and the back gets tied to the very back of my wagon, which gives a better angle to tighten awning it’s like pegging a tent pole 300 mm away and hoping it will stay up, you gave it a very poor attempt to make it work but hey you made a video and made some money
Hey mate, Thank you for your comment and watching. the new one has no issues and its being secured to the same location on the vehicle. But I will try your idea next time I set it up and see if it makes any difference.
Hey Mate, Definitely not a poor effort in making it work. I have the same one and secure it the the roof rack and the back to my canopy just like it was shown in the Darche video yet still has the same issue. nothing to do with the angle.
Good review. Ive found very little info on whether Darche awnings can install on cross bars. One person said the installation manual mentions its possible. But thats not how I found your review. I wish it had popped up when i was doing that search. So i have a couple questions. One, it seems most awnings would attach to a flat bar. Looked like yours attach into the bar. I'm looking at a Yakima aero-type for wind noise. Nothing to screw into. I guess I would need some adapter? Second, was there anything in the instructions about the distance between the bars? I heard the 270 awning requires 1.75m between bars, but my vehicle bars are annoyingly close to one another. Cant tell if thats instruction is based upon the 270 having a hinge or if its just the case for both 180/270, that they need a larger spread for stability.
Hello Evan, Every awning can be mounted on roof bars, makes no difference so long as you meet the requirements for amount of brackets. If your bars don't have channels to fix into then it would be really difficult. Nothing in the instructions about distance, but the more brackets you have the stronger it will be. You also want them spaced far apart to spread the load.
Edit to the first question: the aerobars from RhinoRack and Yakima both have a single T channel. RhinoRack sells an adapter for awnings. Would a single channel suffice for a freestanding awning? I believe yours is a dual channel.
Depending what you are putting up there. Bars are hole lot alot quiter then a platform, also much lighter and easier to take off. I prefer bars and putting everything in the ute tray. Less weight you have uptop better the car drives and handles, also less noise and drag can make a huge difference on fuel.
Doesn’t surprise me at all, bought a Darche tent. Absolute wast of a considerable amount of cash. After doing a little more research I found the problem with my tent was a common faulty that dozens of others where complaining about. Never again will Darche see any of my cash.
