Todd Kerns of Slash & The Conspirators Demos The Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute DC Bass

- While growing up in Estevan, Canada Todd Kerns fell in love with hard rock and heavy metal. With the encouragement of his father, he would go on to learn both bass and guitar.
In 1989 he formed band The Age of Electric and would go on to play with Static In Stereo, Faster Pussycat and Sin City Sinners. But it was in 2010 when he received a phone call to jam with a close friend that would eventually see him travel the world alongside one of rock's most iconic guitarists.
Todd recently stopped by the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles, CA to check out the brand new Les Paul Junior Tribute DC Bass from Gibson’s new “Modern Collection.”
The Les Paul Junior Tribute DC Bass is a tribute to the historic Gibson EB-0 bass from the late 50's, but with modern features. Not just for smaller players, the short scale length is actually chosen by many for its strong fundamental tone and sits perfectly in a track when recording.
The mahogany double cutaway body and maple neck with rosewood fingerboard balances perfectly when playing either sitting or strapped on. It's equipped with a single expanded range LP BassBucker pickup with single volume and tone controls for simplicity. The volume pot has a push-pull feature to coil tap the pickup scooping the mids for further tone shaping possibilities.

Todd is so much more than a Bass player (even though he plays Bass great)! He's a killer guitarist and vocalist and writer as well. But the cherry on top is that Todd is also a funny, warm, and great Guy. Live long and prosper Sir Todd.

This is a great interview. This guy seems very humble and kind. No ego whatsoever. To play with Slash and fill Duffs shoes is a tall order. He must be really good and tasteful with with choice of notes. If he’s not endorsed by Gibson as of yet they are missing out. Guys like this are the guys you want to endorse.

I love the tone of this bass. If Gibson reissued the RD, Ripper, and Grabber and also kept this one around then they might become my favorite bass manufacturer.

I saw Todd Kerns and Bruce Kulick play together a few times on the KISS Kruises'. Together they knock it out of the park. Todd has an amazing voice covering the songs of the KISS non-makeup era. I hope the he will play with Bruce again on KISS Kruise X.

The Gibson company at present is a grandson-copy of the company that made quality instruments in the mid 20th century, now composed of corporate structure that came from college business grads and recent hire mass manufacturing employees. Keeping the 3 point bridge is the new copy-company's attempt to retain the legacy of the gone company, and in an ineffective way that keeps the product inferior.

John, how is it in a band situation? My EB-0 sometimes disappears in the mix, but this seems to cut a little more than that.
@@bobt5778 late response but this bass cuts trough quite well, it has that P growl and the additional low end from it being a shortie has you covered, honestly for 999$ this is a killer MIA bass.

Very cool looking & sounding bass. Gibson should have basic standard models customers can always get and that Les Paul Double Cut Bass looks like it ought to be one.
It's gained more traction than any "new" Gibson model in a long time, though I thought the eb-13 was underrated
