@@Methar39 Natalie has always had a delicate quality to her voice and the French language is similarly delicate - lots of subtlety in the pronunciation.
As an example, it's considered one of the trickiest languages to spell or do text to speech for because it has just a ton of silent letters all over the place.
Also, while I do say it's delicate, it's not fragile.
@@bobdole4916 french as a lot of vowel associations, but very very very few silent one. As a matter of fact, french is way easier than english to spell according to a said word because there is very few interprétation possible. The other way around it Also true, While Reading a french word, you will pronounce it correctly easily While in english most of the Time you need context to pronounce it (to read vs i read Yesterday, or an increase and to increase where you are supposed to move the stress)
Once the rules of letter associations mastered, which Indeed implyes lot of sounds (ou, in, ain, ein, oei, eu, en, an etc...) It is easy to read french and to write it :-)
@@vitofee " there is very few interprétation possible." L'accent qui donne l'accent, les joies du correcteur xD
@@vitofee It's definitely very consistent with it's spelling rules, but when you have to interpret how something that's said is spelled, that gets trickier. Especially among non-natives.
English tends to be tricky in the tenses for non-natives, but spelling isn't as big a deal because the inconsistency makes it so people don't rely as much on spelling via the sounds, and memorization becomes the main way you learn.
Languages all have their own funny quirks - like how with French there's a department in the government that actively works against slang or foreign terms working their way into the language. That's a big reason why the spelling tends to be consistent, but also why there are some odd terms for more modern things when their names are translated literally. Everything has to be represented by an older vocabulary.

This has been one of my favorite French songs for a while. The chorus melody gets stuck in my head on repeat. Technically, it’s kinda weird for a woman to be singing it... Since the song was written by a man, it’s linguistically odd coming from a woman because the words’ genders are all off (“beau” instead of “belle” for example). The lyrics are also very masculine, since the song is essentially about being “whipped” (figuratively speaking). Anyhoo, singing from the masculine perspective made me think about how deeply the idea of “gender” is ingrained in romance languages. THEN I remembered that nouns can be feminine, masculine or neuter in German. I am rambling. But my point is that different cultures deal with gender differently, and it’s interesting to think about how language shapes those ideas.
Where, when and how did you learn French?
Interesting thoughts, and a beautiful song. I always thought it was strange that English doesn't have a word for the plural 'you'. Like, that was never a need?

I have never took off my hat
, In front of someone
Now I crawl and I sit pretty, When she call me
I was a bad dog, She gets me to eat
On her little hand
I had wolves teeth, I changed them
for milk teeth
I felt so small In front of a doll
Who close her eyes, When she's layed down
I felt so small
In front of a doll
Who says mommy, When she's touched
I was a tough guy, She converted me
That little face
And I felt hot and roasted, On her mouth
That has milk teeth When she smiles,
When she sings
And wolves theet When she's furious,
When she's bad
I felt so small
In front of a doll
Who close her eyes
, When she's layed down
I felt so small
In front of a doll
Who says mommy
, When she's touched
All the sleepwalkers and the magician
Told me
In her arms I will suffer my
Last torment
There is no worst or better but
all has to be taken
Hanging here or hanging elsewhere
When you have to hang
I felt so small
In front of a doll
Who close her eyes
, When she's layed down
I felt so small
In front of a doll
Who says mommy
, When she's touched

"I lived in France and Belgium from ages 10 to 18. Used to not have an accent, but I'm a bit rusty now that it's been over a decade since I lived there."
*une fine mouche* is a person that is wise and cunning.
*dents de lait* French use to call "dents de lait" the very first teeth every human gets, these first teeth will be replaced around 6/9 years old by the definitive ones.
*"menotte* is a little hand, a baby's hand for example, or the hand of a child. There's a pleasant, affectionate meaning with this word.
*quenotte* is a local idiom for "tooth", it's like "menotte", a pleasant and affectionate term for "young tooth" or "little tooth".
*dit sans malice* means that these mages have "spoken without a lie"

* "fly" is in double ways here, "fine mouche" was used to name a good swordsman - the fly here refers to the little ball at the end of the sword to avoid serious injury to the opponent during tournaments -. But it also designate the fly which be used by aristocracy in XVIII century for face make-up - a small black point drawn on the cheek, close mouth.

2:29 She sings: Qu'on se pende ici, qu'on se pende ailleurs, which means "If we hang ourselves here or somewhere else" and the drummer joyfully dancing :D
As he should.
Your interpretation is too literal, you're not considering context and colloquialisms. Qu'on se pende ici ou qu'on se pende ailleurs, s'il faut se pendre is used here in the sense of getting married. In French, a colloquial way of saying a man is getting married is to say that he put a rope (or better yet, a noose) around his neck ("il s'est mis la corde au cou"). The drummer's reaction is perfectly apropos.
CaptHollister obviously Brassens song isn’t that dark and considering the global meaning of the song the reaction is appropriate. But thank you for explaining the joke of taking it literally and by doing so ruining the funny aspect of it :’)
Don't feel so bad. My high school French only gets me half way to the real meaning too.
And boy, would I marry this attractive drummer

You must know that for some of us french speakers in France and Switzerland, Brassens is in the pantheon of musical poetry and has a very dear place in our hearts. Thanks and keep going!
It's very obvious from her perfect diction and accent that Nataly can speak French. Brava !
Quelle jolie interprétation! Une anglophone qui chante en français, c'est rafraîchissant. Merci!
I'm digging these guys more and more every time I listen to them groove on
Your french accent is just PERFECT ! Brilliant ! Félicitations from France
Pomplamoose is great in any language. 😊️🎵️🎶
yeahhhhh
Love ...
OMG Quelle belle reprise les paroles le Tempo le rythme c est envoûtant formidable quel meilleur hommage a un génie de la chanson française qu était Brassens
Georges Brassens was the best jazz french singer and the best poet. Despite he was not at all considered as a jazz composer.
Oh génial 😍 !!
Je m'attendais pas du tout à entendre du Brassens sur votre chaîne. Très bonne reprise !!
Et un accent français parfait par dessus le marché !
Vraiment bravo 👏👏👏
En effet ! Étonnant.
Recently discovered this band and I love their French songs! I love the passion and fun they have and especially the drummer who plays in French!!🤭😃
Great interpretation of a wonderful song. Love Brassens, and loved this version too. Thanks so much.
You know you're fantastic once you impress the french in their native tongue
What a *FANTASTIC* version, performed by *FANTASTIC* musicians, and great voice of the lady, what a voice... *WHAT A VOICE !!!*
Excellent merci à vous de faire revivre notre Georges!
Beautiful!
I haven't understood a single word but I've fallen in love.
Formidable ! J'ai été très touchée, prononciation absolument parfaite, et quel travail de tous ceux qui font les instruments ! Vous êtes tous absolument formidables.
A perfect revival of an old 1956, eternal song. Great work Nataly and friends! What a great song!
Merci et bravo pour vos chansons.
I love how delicate your voice sounded in this song! Very beautiful!
I like the way French tunes and songs are like tiptoeing and chillen
Magnifique ! Quelle interprétation. Merci
C'est absolument génial. Brassens est déjà fantastique a écouter seul, mais l'arrangement et la voix de Nataly sont un vrai plus. Quel carton.
Et le guitariste est formidable aussi.
I didn't"t understand a thing but it lifted my heart.
Je m' suis fait tout petit devant Pomplamoose. Quel talent !!!!!
Fantastique. Merci pour ce moment.
прекрасный коллектив все песни в их исполнении просто СУПЕР
Great version.
Nataly spent years in France and Belgium where she attended school. You can tell by her accent.
Un grand bravo pour cette reprise respectueuse de Brassens et de sa monotonie légendaire et de son talent d’écriture
Aucun accent! Amazing
Incroyable 😮❤ reprise de Georges Brassens. Merci
de diffuser ses magnifiques chansons de l’autre côté de l’océan. Je suis sûr que tout la haut il est aux anges 😊
What a beautiful voice harmony!!!
Je tombe plus ou moins par hasard sur cette interprétation d'une chanson de Brassens qui est l'une de ses plus belles mélodies et je dois dire que je suis ravi de la performance.
La prononciation est parfaite. La sobriété d'un bout à l'autre. L'accompagnement présent et discret à la fois. Bravo à la chanteuse qui est nécessairement francophone.
heu non, elle n'est pas francophone, mais d'après certains commentaires elle a vécu en France
Incroyable cette prononciation.
Amazing this pronunciation.
Quelle production soignee!!! Bravo!
Wonderful voice
I love how happy Jack always is in EVERY VIDEO! Scary Pockets, Pomplamoose, whatever... he's a happy dude!
Lyrics (mostly for myself)
Je n'avais jamais ôté mon chapeau
Devant personne
Maintenant je rampe et je fais le beau
Quand elle me sonne
Camellia thanks I will copy this
