The main point about ULEZ is that it is a measure (adopted by other european states, btw) which is needed in order to cut the huge number of deaths caused by air pollution every year. In fact, pollution is the larges single cause of premature death. Everybody has a family member or acquaintance who suffers from Asthma, bronchitis or other respiratory disease. My daughter has had asthma since she was a baby and was hospitalised several times as a child.. sometimes it was touch and go whether the doctors could raise her oxygen levels again. It seems to me that those who complain because of expense or inconvenience are selfish. Don't wait until you are affected and find yourself or a loved-one attached to an oxygen mask!

I travel on the trains regularly. Going from Manchester to London is far more expensive than going from Milton Keynes to London. Isn't that effectively a similar concept to a pay-per-mile?

If PPM is a tax then it only affects those that use the roads it covers? Whilst it looks like it means another cost to the motorists in London I would like to know what the benefits of this would be. I know it will generate income, and therefore money to be spent on London. I would also be keen to understand the prices and how it effectively calculates the distance covered.

With pay per mile, Sadiq Khan said in this video he would like time and distance for PPM. This basically means as well as PPM it allows for automatically charging people for going over the speed limit as that is what time/distance calculates.
