    I appreciate everyone's comments - thank you!
Just to clarify: I am not suggesting that Tommy does NOT respect the song or the writer, merely that ensuring the lyrics are correct is important to me. I also understand singing in a language other than your mother tongue very well, as I have personally sung in more than 20 different languages - including Swedish and Norwegian. Whenever I do sing in another language, I ensure that my pronunciation of it is as authentic as possible before stepping out onto a stage, or into a studio.
I think it was very clear how highly I spoke of Tommy as singer and artist!

I appreciate how you respect the song and the writers. Tommy does too but, he is Swedish and English is not his native language so his pronunciation may be off because of that. I adore Tommy and his abilities! Thank you for reacting to him!

I agree. He didn’t change the words themself even if the pronounciation might not be as the original. But that’s the charm of turning the song into your own in a way right?

4.27...""However".... For me, that is where you start to lose me. Tommy always respects the artist. Maybe a word or two has been lost in translation from the original to Swedish and back to English? A song I confess, I don't like too much but hearing Tommy's version, I love it. This is your channel and you are perfectly entitled to your criticism of such a tiny 'flaw' but you have to accept that Team Tommy may not agree.

It's strange that you put emphasis on the incorrectly pronounced word. Tommy is Swedish, and it's just an accent, nothing more. Thomas always treats the original very carefully, and never allows himself to make deliberate mistakes. Personally, I noticed how Tommy's eyes sparkled throughout the song, as if there were tears in them... I watched the reaction of an Italian to Tommy's song in Italian, he was just sweetly joking about the not quite correct pronunciation of some Italian words. I repeat once again - Tommy treats the original very carefully. And his wink at the end of the song is not disrespect, but rather a sign of encouragement that everything will be fine (this is my opinion). And for me personally, this song performed by Tommy sounds exactly like this, that I always barely hold back tears...

Beautiful!! 😍👏🤩I think he was connected to the song which was dedicated to his friend. I am not sure why you reacted to baffled King as the text is “The minor fall and the major lift
    The baffled King composing "Hallelujah"
Maybe his accent? Bathing is pronounced different in American and British English He sang it with American pronunciation. So I am a bit confused over what was the issue here 😉 Anyway, I appreciate your reactions as I find them very informative and interesting 👍

It’s difficult to express how amazing this song is, I’ve always loved it and love listening to it to differant artist sing and interpret. I have several favorite, but I will never forget when KD LANG sang it at the 2010 Olympics in British Columbia. She has a very unique style and voice, loved her also when she was very young and sang with Roy Orbison. That’s another story. I’ve been watching you now for about a month, and have gone back to many of your shows, I’m loving what you do.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks for your reaction. I agree with all previous song suggestions. He is so versatile and if you want to see him having fun I suggest you check out 'If you only had a moustache', 'Texas hold em' and 'I'm stiil standing'. If you want to see something different I suggest the Swedish folk song 'Nu Grönskar det' where he plays a few instruments. I personally also like 'Anthem' and 'Music'. He was in the band Sabaton for 7 years and made a few Disney covers with the words of the Sabaton songs of which 'Seven pillars of wisdom' is my favourate. Another beautuful piece of music is 'The training montage Rocky 1V' where he doesn't sing, only instruments.
By the way if you don't know Sabaton I really suggest you check them out by starting with Christmas Truce and also Tommy's own band Majestica. 'Above the sky' and there latest 'A new beginning'

I always give a little leeway to singers who aren't singing in their native language. They do better in English than I would singing in theirs, so......He's also putting these songs together in as little as a week. He does play all the instruments on the videos but some are done on the synth (eg percussion). He lists the instrumentation in his descriptions. If you want to see a stunning performance from him, it's out of season but O Helga Natt is absolutely incredible. As a side note, if you like Hallelujah, then I find it mind boggling if you have not yet reacted to KD Lang singing it. IMO, it's her song. There is a version of her at the 2010 Olympics singing it or also a 2010 version of her singing it at the Australian Logies. Cohen praised her performances.

In addition, there is actually a version of her singing the song to Cohen himself when he was receiving induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

There is a version of Cohen's "Hallelujah" sung completely in the Hebrew language by the Israeli Defense Forces band (IDF) on TH-cam. As "Hallelujah" is a Hebrew word the experience of listening to the song sung in its native language entirely by its own native people has some mystical element. This version seems to be sung sweetly though rather than in desperate frustration but I covered it on my channel injecting more of that melancholic desperation. The lyricist of the Hebrew version seems to be uncredited.

I just looked at this because I adore Tommy J.
    You should react to:
Bohemian Rhapsody, Ave Maria, and She's Gone.
If you're going to compare Hallelujas, please listen to Rufus Wainwright's interpretation.
Rufus has been a little forgotten, but he does many things.
He grew up socialising with Leonard Cohen and has a daughter together with Cohen's daughter, although he's gay.
Rufus also sang the lead song in the movie Moulin Rouge.
    Also worth listening to!
If you continue with Tommy, you will find that he can sing anything.
Psalms, musicals, classical, rock and rockballads, popballads, ABBA, and folksongs.
You should also listen to Tommy's one octave challenge on
"You raise me up" - which is actually a Norwegian christian song written for Secret Garden.
Good luck with Tommy, he's a "musical wonder", but listen to Rufus also! 👌

Like all other Vocal coaches you probably don't read comments but I do love your analysis. I don't really subscribe to any vocal coach because I'm just here learning the singing analysis, breakdowns, etc. I'm not in a position to afford a vocal coach, or course, as obviously others are in same position. But I do learn things very quickly and I started my channel to take people on my journey of learning to sing. No teaching, coaching, or anything, just me going over how I'm learning, who I'm learning from and how I make sure what I'm learning is correct and right backup by at least three or more other sources. But I do like your analysis, along with about 6-8 other channels. The Charismatic Voice and Peter Barber are two that I'll mention. Both are opera trained. But I also like Ken Tamplin and have his course "which a friend got for me as a gift" so that was awesome. Anyone, I'll keep watching. Also "You don't like The Voice?" I see a lot of American Idol thought.

I totally agree with you about changing lyrics with respect.
I can understand when a singer changes a she to a he or vice versa to fit to the gender.
I know that, as for an example, Ghost did a cover on the Iron Maiden song Phantom of the opera (not from the Andrew Lloyd Webber operett), they asked the lyrics writer for permission to do it (they wanted to change it to Phantoms perspective instead from Christine's). That's OK.
    Tommy is really good.
This song has went through many interactions, Jeff Buckleys is the most known even though it is written by Leonard Cohen. I guess that this song has several meanings for a lot of people, which makes it a masterpiece!

4:38 "I feel if you wanna sing somebody else's song, don't change the lyrics, or, don't, and and or don't make some words different to the original because it seems like disrespecting the song. Even if that's not your intentiont to disrespect the song it seems like disrespect.....doesn't matter who you are and how brilliant you are and how lovable you are and how much people enjoy you and what you do I think we must sing the lyrics correctly!"

    • @ThelSuperlKing
      @ThelSuperlKing 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Generally as a rule of thumb or principle I tend to agree but depending on the results and outcome of the change made I can make exceptions granted the appreciation of the result may often be subjective but to each their own. I often find myself making similar complain if the arrangement of a song or a melody line of a song is changed by the performer performing someone else's song as per the original intention of the songwriter. This soon becomes praise and admiration if I can find myself loving the change better than the original or even if it is somewhat equal in artistic beauty of the original. I am only upset if the change was inferior aesthetically to the original. Whitney Houston's arrangement of "I Will Always Love You" for example although betraying the original arrangement of the original written by Dolly Parton I find myself admiring it more even though most of Dolly's fans hated it!
Some songs just have a life of its own and make you do things unexpectedly or tell you to do or say things. They are greater than the songwriter who only happens to be their vessels to bring the song into existence.

    • @ThelSuperlKing
      @ThelSuperlKing 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Johnny Cash covered “Hurt” written by Trent Treznor. Cash changed a word or two and Reznor upon watching the music video said that the song no longer is his and now belongs to Cash. Basically make the sounds you feel and say the words or lines you believe in and want to express. I think I got that from you or at least part of it. There are general principles or rule of thumbs in music or art but exceptions may exist because unlike pure science with fixed laws these rules are not immutable. Some people may get away with it and some or many won’t in the eyes of many or some.
A music teacher once told me that we spent a significant portion of our lives trying to learn the rules and then spent more time learning how to break them. It is only unprofessional if you forgot the lyrics and made a mistake coming across as sloppy and it’s only disrespect if you diminish the song intentionally or unintentionally. I am results based knowing well enough subjectivity plays a large part of appreciating that result but music is largely subjective to begin with. My personal vantage point is I challenge the artist to open my eyes and make me see a new fresh or different angle of the song being covered and then try and make me appreciate it. If you can bring about that result I may even give praise!
