Born Sinner is a Classic piece of work. Cole really outdid himself with that joint. I was impressed. Even more so now that ive been sittin on it since Summer. The Concept is Brilliant! I actually think it's a better Album than Kendricks ( No Typo). Where Kdot made a coming of age Album for Compton to inspire the youth in his city to be/do Positive things like he is.... Cole COMPOSED an Entire album by himself about his Life, at this point in time, his moral/semi Religious beliefs vs the Temptauos world of being a Popular Entertainer. I think this album relates to EVERYBODY and what diff people might be going thru. The only takeaway, he didn't close the album as strong as he started.. Its awkwardly noticeable. Other than that, Great Work.
You never cease to impress me. I've known for almost 3 years that you're my favorite rapper but I'm realizing you're also one of my favorite individuals, role models, thinkers.
So refreshing to hear a rapper talk about mental health and depression. In this culture of how big a chain is and what whip they're driving hearing someone talk about something completely real. Salute J Cole.
Did you not hear Where's Jermaine - Born Sinner (Title track)? Lol, the beginning of the album is corrupted and depressed but once you get to Where's Jermaine Cole regains confidence in himself and starts to think with a more clear mind. Songs like Crooked Smile and Born Sinner especially are very inspirational and positive. He reaches "light" at the end of the album when the choir starts singing with him..
Im just like Cole,I spit from the heart...HIPHOP is about truth an enjoyment,J.Cole is one of the last dying breeds that will keep Real HIPHOP alive...1love Every1.
I can relate to this to the fullest, I'm an artist myself and I have yet to hit my peak...It's been 3 years but I'm still going for it, so I definitely know where you're coming from. But stay strong and rely on God, and you'll always come out of the darkness
Pressure truly is pressure. I understand and relate with Cole completely. He uses writing and his music to get out of it. Pressure is the one thing that limits us in life and we amplify things even more. I make videos every single week with a distinct message for individuals. It's okay to not be okay.
There are different levels of depression. He may not have had to deal with the most severe case but from what he said I think he's definitely capable of empathizing with those of us that have battled or are battled with depression. I think he was spot on about pressure. That is one of the primary causes of depression and suicide.
connotation people associate with being depressed.. especially for men and especially for men that are rappers. Many people have that "real men don't cry" mindset and I believe Cole just doesn't like putting his emotions all the way out there to keep people from ragging on him. He's already been clowned for being "too soft/sensitive".
Pressure can lead to depression though.. he's comparison is a product of his personality and lifestyle, that shouldn't be held against him. I don't think it's fair to eliminate the idea that he may have been depressed just because of a few words in one particular interview. I've heard him talk about it multiple times and I listened to the album. It did seem like he was in a level of depression. I think he doesn't want to admit he's still depressed or how bad it really was because of the negative
The beginning made me laugh lol "This is j cole.........and it's okay to not be okay :)" I definitely can say I didn't think i'd ever hear him say that lol
