Ok not gonna lie, I actually choked up for a sec when we can see the background on Romans phone and it’s Tommy’s picture with the Jeep, presumably from their trip together. Not to get too sappy on youtube but as someone with a difficult relationship with their father that was really something beautiful to see. Tommy’s lucky to have you as a Dad, Roman.

Note on the hood scoop: Up to the R56 Minis they were at least semi-functional
For the F56s they moved the turbo air intake to the lower section of the front grille (the large dual intakes) but decided to keep the scoop for style and easy identification of an S vs a base model

One thing I'll mention which most many owners do that are true enthusiasts if you install an eventuri Intake you'll be provided a true hood scoop. Not to mention you also gain the blow off valve sounds.

I've had 2 Minis now - an R56 (RIP, sandwiched by a Suburban and a Pilot), and now an F56. I will definitely admit that the R56 was by far not the most reliable car - never broke down on me but had a design flaw with the timing chain that would rear its head every 2 years or so and my dealer did not want to fix it because they couldn't charge me for it - they fixed it for free the first time but then kept claiming it was a different issue (they sandblasted my cylinders once claiming that my misfire was due to carbon buildup then tried to claim it needed to be done again the next year). So far my experience with the F56 has been fantastic - so much fun and wonderful to be in without the pretentiousness you get from a lot of "premium" performance cars. I love driving it because I can scoot around without worrying that I'll lose control - handles like a champ and gets going off the line fairly quick if you give it some juice. The sound is also great - the new exhaust note is pretty good with a nice snap on the upshift and lots of crackles and pops on the downshift in sport mode and if you opt to get the valved JCW exhaust kit installed it's absolutely heavenly. I won't pretend like it'd be able to compete with some of the other hot hatches or sedans in terms of horsepower, but in my opinion it's got them all beat on fun.
I'm definitely biased but I don't think there's any other car that brings me as much joy as a Mini.

Well said, a car has to make you smile and laugh when you drive it, the Mini is the only car that I've owned that will do that without having to remortgage my house to purchase it.

@@alexanderarreaga5421 Sorry to hear about your R56 :(
I'm still totally in love with my F56. Started modding it now - recently installed a CAI from Cravenspeed for even more dose sounds, next is exhaust and tune if I can ever find a dealer in the states for the Remus valvetronic kit.
What've you got planned for your F57?

@@sirabdude14 my bad...F56. I was eyeing the F56 more so, but in the end decided if I'm getting another one...let's make a little roadster. Haha! Right now it's just cosmetic stuff for me while it's under warranty. 😂. Blacking out the interior/exterior in gloss. I'm torn on what to do with the wheels. A beefier exhaust is nice. I'd like to do that too. I feel like this generation needs a lowered suspension as it is a softer design, so it needs help to make it look more aggressive, but I like the car's current ride comfort as stock.

Possibly the reason that cars in the US are getting steadily bigger, heavier and more expensive is that the customers are demanding ever more features. Also many Americans seem to be well over six feet tall and physically large, if not grossly overweight.
Cars designed for much smaller European roads and people will not sell as well in the US. To get a good handling, nimble and economical car it is best to follow the Colin Chapman recipe, and add lightness.

    • @joecanis484
      @joecanis484 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I somewhat disagree with your a assertion that customers are demanding ever more features. Some of the added expense is due to government safety requirements, some is due to the manufacturers adding what in the past were options and making them standard for greater profits on each sale. I got my license in 1961 and safely went from point A to point B without all of the modern day gizmos. Granted some are useful and some increase safety, but many items are there to just drive up the prices and profits. Or they make one item that you want as part of a package so that you have to buy a bunch of unwanted features.

I had a 2014 cooper s hardtop. It was barely worth it at 32k, but the build quality was pretty good and for the time, it was a bit peppy. People call it the poor man's bmw, but as a former bmw 3-series owner, I can say that's not the case. It's not really the same, but I drive a focus ST now and I enjoy driving it a lot more than the mini. The ford's build quality sucks, but for the price, you get a lot more smiles per mile.

41K Mini Cooper s convertible? Still cheaper than it is in India. It is totally overpriced here. One can only afford one from the used market.

great review, however these cars are way too big now and have been made boring.. of these 'new' minis the supercharged one (gen1) was by far the most fun... (gotta be a manual though). In my experience (i had a couple inc r56), the most unreliable part of car is the engine (the bmw bit) - actually just get an abarth 500 or something

R56 Mini's didn't have a BMW motor. it was a Peugeot motor. BMW started with the N20. The N14, N16, and N18 were Peugeot engines (Prince engine)

WTF was "Florida Edition" Everthing that they said was "Florida Edition" you can get in any new Mini Cooper. This was a stupid video only because they kept saying "Forida Edition" which is false info. Once again you can get any of those features in a New Mini Cooper

Challenge Edition is WAY rarer then that - at only 50 units. Also there does not really seem to be anything unique to that car that I could not order, not a knock against your video, just an observation

this car is $55,000.00 in Canada, too much money for cute, power train has a spotty history about its reliability, i would take Tommy's old model with supercharger and manual 5 spd any day with all the squads and rattles, thats why mankind, invented loctite, double sided tape, and WD-40 to fix all the squeaky thingamabobs in the car, you only need one good cup holder for the driver, when taking those corners, right Tommy

I think I like the car,..but no dip stick,...NO,..... 'cmon BMW. Technology for the sake of technology,...enough of that crap. Whatever is happening to the sport of driving a car?
I have one, mine's a summer driver only and it's a 2010 convertible,...but no supercharger and it has ( unfortunately ) an auto box.
