- After a rough free agency for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James signed a two-year, $104 million deal to stay with the purple and gold. Jason McIntyre reacts to LeBron's new deal, then breaks down how the Lakers struck out in free agency. The Philadelphia 76ers added a new piece to their puzzle to create their Big 3. Paul George inked a four-year, $212 million deal to join Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey as that third piece. However, J-Mac is not sold on the move. Suns big 3 (and Nets before it) is highly duplicative skillwise. From a team building perspective it's obvious you don't want your 3 best players all trying to occupy the same space and do the same things on the court.
Bucks won with Holiday instead of Dame in their big 3 a few years ago, and whether the trade improved them was an open question when it happened.
On the other hand, the basketball fit of Philly's big 3 is immaculate. All 3 do different things on the court. So they all fit together. AND every possible pairing makes sense on its own too. With the moves they've already made, all they need is a legit starting caliber PF and then they just need to find 3 minimum type guys who can be playable in the playoffs for a 8 man rotation. Yes, that's work to do, but it's far from undoable.
Ultimately, it's going to be more about the health of this big 3 then whether a big 3 can still work. We go through this every time a different style of team wins a championship. Now that's "the only way to do it"... Until somebody does it a different way in a few years. The big 3 isn't dead as long as it's the right big 3, and this one has as good a chance as any could to be the right one from a purely on court perspective.
Imagine being basically a billionaire and still taking max money instead of the minimum and possibly winning a championship with a better roster

First of all, what are these news sources claiming what these players will or won't take. That's the first Huge Problem. Concerning Paul George, well we live in a NBA where players of his AGE are still excelling at a very high level. Now here's the thing if you will, George is the 3rd Option which is a Luxury these days for any Team trying with a Legit Chance to win a NBA title. But he can still burst YOU UP for easily for 30 plus points in his sleep. Plus with what the Sixers drafted, they will be a Force to be reckoned with in the EAST. If not the FORCE.
