Oh yea!? Well thanks for sharing that, I'm glad to learn that my videos serve other drummers. What you shared is because when I play these covers, I'm playing like I'm the drummer on the session. Keep drumming!!!
Man that was beautiful! As a 69 year old amateur drummer, I am always trying to learn more and refine my playing. Your willingness to post instructional videos is typical of most drummers - very generous and willing to share their knowledge! Thanks man!
Been watching all your videos and I must say you've done a great job of recreating their drum intentions. Appreciate all you did to put these on line so even an old drummer can see them.
Never got to see Jim Gordon live. Not many did. When I was a kid, Layla was the first song where I noticed the drumming. This is my favorite cover of the millions of covers on youtube, hands down. Thanks, Sal.
Good job! Thanks for posting this. I appreciate that you've seen Jim Gordon play this live so your cover is probably one of the more complete versions, so it helps me learn the song for my next Flashjam performance.
Saw that Dominoes tour also in Cincinnati on Thanksgiving night 1970. What a show and Gordon was awesome on his Camco kit. Man, him and Carl Radle could lay down that groove. He came up fast in the 60's and was Hal Blaines understudy and number 2 man on the studio scene. Played on so many great ones, what a shame that his disease took over and ended his career. Hope he is getting better and gets out one day..His drumming on Traffic's Low Spark is one of his finest ever. Good job on this Sal.
@james80196 The 8th notes on the hi-hat drives the rhythm supporting the ride cymbal pattern and creates a rolling groove underneath the other instruments, as do the ghost notes which always round things out. What I played would work for the song in the studio or stage. If you've ever seen Jim Gordon play live, as I have with Dereck & The Dominoes in 1971 you may realize why I chose to play the song as I did. I appreciate you watching this cover and for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Roland V-Drums TDW-20 module with TD-12 pads & cymbals and VH-12 hi-hat, triggering a modified Addictive Drums kit comprised of DW drums which is the offshoot of the Camco drums that Jim Gordon played. Thanks for watching.
@GearsofWumbology Hey thanks for your comments. It's the influence of Jim Gordon, the drummer on this session, he was a big influence. Thanks for watching it.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your encouraging comments. Yea, I think that people "dislike" for the wrong reasons. I've seen videos of fabulous performances by some of my favorite bands/musicians and they had dislikes.
I've been "playing" this song for a while, and finally, thanks to you, there's a technical and good sounding cover I can learn from. Thank you sir, thank you very much.
This Is AMAZING MAN!!!!!!!!! Ghost notes in there,... arghhh I wish I could do that!!!! You just make it look easy, always spot on time,... Its what we call talent,. Respect! subbed cant wait for some more awesome materiel like this
As I expected...superb cover....great fills...I liked the spot at around 1:12 where you finished up with a nice burst of 1/16 beats off of the 1/8's. I classic song with alot of cool fills...Nick
Well a lot of drumming is about really knowing the song so well as well as having the technique to pull it off. With those 2 combos one can then really be aggressive with the song by being a "lead drummer", pushing and leading the song. Thanks for watching.
Hey man, thanks, I'm very much appreciative of your kind comment. I had just gotten out of the USAF & this was the album of the day back when it was first released. I got to see Eric & band play this song & others from the album at the Fillmore East in NYC. Jim Gordon's groove has been in my bones from the very first time I felt it & I was changed in how I drum because of It. The day I covered this I had just come home from work & was led to cover it, & this is what came out. Thanks for watching
that sir is cool enough to chill drinks very nicely done
Hi Sal, great cover! I just uploaded my version and I nicked your snare figure - but I refer to your channel as inspiration, so I hope that's ok :)
Hey Sina, of course it's ok, that's sweet, and I'm honored. I will go check out your rendition. Thank you.
Superb
Good Job Eric Clapton!
RIP Mike. My favourite go-to for drumming.
hard rock 🖤 🤘
Well, this as good as Jim Gordon's drumming! Amazing stuff, so flawless and smooth playing. Guess I'll have to start to hit them rudiments!
Sad but Jim Gordon is prison for murdering
he's mum in 1983 and still in prison today.
@@campfreddy3547 His 11th parole hearing is later this month.
@@monkeyballz168 I don't think he will get parole.
You're a great drummer. Fantastic feel - never rushed but always spot on. You have no idea how many songs you've helped me learn! Thank you!

Hey Kurt, thanks for viewing the video and for the encouraging and kind comments. Keep drumming! I am still drumming at age 72.
there are drummers and there are guys that play the drums. This guy is major drummer. Just flows out of him as natural as he might breathe. Bravo man
This sounds FANTASTIC. I could listen to it even without the backing music
Gee thanks! Much appreciated!
Man, your drumming is awesome. You got the groove in your veins.
Thank you.

Thank you George, it's much appreciated.
Thank you. I'm a schooled drummer and started playing by ear, so both.

I'm glad, this is the drum cover. If it was guitar cover no one would notice it's not Eric Clapton playing. Anyway best drum cover of Layla IMHO
