Omg my PD150 golf engine code ARL wow I still miss her so much so much fun! Replaced her with a 435d more than twice the power and torque but sooooo boring compared to my beloved MK4 GTI diesel
The new back box is a great improvement sound wise. A few years back, I changed the exhaust on my previous car, and it had a little drone. Not happy I did some adjustments, that reduced the drone a little, but not enough. I changed the exhaust again and also adjusted front to back. Drone gone, plus car was back to almost silent at motorway speeds. A droning exhaust can be wearing on a long journey. A friend many years ago put a cherry bomb type exhaust on his Mondeo and regretted it, after doing a few long journeys.
Buy a Clio 172/182 if you need any advice message me as have a lot of knowledge of theses cars especially owning one myself, you would find a lot of people watch your videos on them as not many videos on fixing them on TH-cam
I'd like to see you continue the Vaux theme but with something old and really challenging. Hmm, a 1975 to 1984 Vauxhall Chevette. Real hot hatch right there!
New exhaust sounds good, nice deep rumble but a little quieter, as an avid Vauxhall fan I would suggest a VXR Astra or Corsa if budget permits, or maybe an Astra or Vectra B GSi (I know a Vectra isn't strictly a hot hatch). Keep up the good work mate, looking forward to loads more quality vids
Mate love your Videos BUT I'm 34 years old I have the Astra mk4 1.8 that's looks the same as yours with a full 3 inch exhaust sound amazing don't be embarrassed mate it's like a classic these day people love old school cars keep up the good work pal.
1. exhaust sounds great, love the grumble. my type of sound and loudness really. 2. i reckon it doesnt matter what you buy, as long as its interesting in some way, maybe slightly newer car with a few more issues.
I'm 31 and love a loud exhaust. Although as I've grown older it has to sound nice and just be loud. I remember the mk4 astra coupe I had was so droney I hated it gave me a headache.
James, I know exactly where you're coming from. The exhaust that was on the Celica was so bad that I was loath to start the car. I replaced it with a stock exhaust which is a LOT quieter although my GoPro doesn't do it justice. That back box suits the Astra nicely and ticks all you boxes. You should get a BMW E36 to replace the Astra.
Well I'm 27 and got tuned exhaust on a Zafira A 1.8 but the overall car is slighty changed on visual side but I like it, and I do not feel embarrassed since it sounds pretty bad ass and nobody expects a minivan to sound like a sport car.
Well done James your very confident and you'd tackle any car.your also very nice.thanks James David in Stirling, you learn me a lot your very good James .thanks david
Listening on my phone through ear phones it didn't sound massively different but did sound good and looked much better than the other one . As for suggestions on a new hot hatch project, why not go for the original hot hatch a VW Golf? It doesn't have to be be in even half decent condition, in fact as long as the bodywork is sound, the worse condition mechanically the better, as you could make it a long term restoration project and get a lot of great video content. Whatever you decide, good luck and I'm really looking forward to watching it.
Replace the Astra with an XR5 ST. Cheap and a decent replacement and fits the bill as a hot hatch. New pipe sounds good and looks the part. Just as Daniel said however, remove the centre of the rear bumper, it will look batter without it.
New exhaust sounds much better not to loud and not too quiet. Its in the goldilocks zone of exhausts. If you want a sporty looking exhaust that's really quiet get a irmscher twin oval backbox. The irmscher would fit perfectly on this astra as it was made for this. Brand new they used to be £550 at vauxhall main agent but should be able to get a cheap one on ebay.
Exhaust is loads better and go retro nova or fiesta xr2 or escort or something? Or a golf vr6 or mk4 2.3 v5? There’s loads of options I’m dying to get a retro motor
Lol James I'm in my 40s and got a twin pipe hornet backbox on my Toyota avensis lol I love it. Mine has the same look as your new one though. Keep the great vids coming bud your a star lol
Got to be another ford surely? Maybe a mk6 fiesta st or focus st170. A mk2 focus st would be insane though. Keep up vids, definitely the best on TH-cam 👍🏻
1. Much better, I’ll thinking about noise reduction on the 1.8sri Corsa. Full Piper system is so loud!! 🤭 2. What about something with 4 wheel drive? And V6? VW Golf 4motion? Or an old Audi S3?
Sounds exactly the same but like you said it may sound different on camera to what it does if you are actually there : )

I think that the new one looks way better. As you said, the rectangle shape suits her well. And about the hot hatch.. Maybe some old VW Golf with 1.8T petrol might be fun. Prices for spare parts are not high, cars too. Aaand one Last thing... I will send you DM tomorrow about the exhaust if I can :)
The new exhaust looks much better, and sounds much better too, if it was me looking for a new ‘project car’, I would definitely go for a Škoda Fabia, or Octavia VRS, I am biased due to being a dedicated Škoda enthusiast, however that aside, I think Škoda VRS models are not only very fast and reliable, they also look great!!.
good evening I am from France and I would like to find glasses for closing the hood like yours on opel astra or have you buy thank you and super video good luck for the rest
Hay mate luv the videos keep up the good work I am interested in buying the astra and for a new car hot hatch what about am old mk2 Clio sport or something like an ford st170
You wouldn’t like my Astra turbo then, s/s full Miltek exhaust, no pre-cat into a sport cat, race tube into a back box with a 4.5” exit tip. Next car could be a Focus ST, the 2.5 turbo engine is a great platform to start from. Go old school and get a Mk 3 VR6 golf?
Do you have a link to the new exhaust? I'm looking around on ebay and stuff for a aftermarket exhaust and don't want anything too loud but something with a bit of grumble and this looks really good. I have a 2002 Astra g SRi
Much better exhaust. Looks and sounds right. Only one hot hatch as I’ve said before lol. BMW 130i Msport very underrated car. Pick a nice one and you’ll have loads of fun 😉
If you're looking for something really unique and reliable I would recommend a Volvo C30. The back is odd but it grows on you and not alot of people are doing videos on them either so it's something unique for the channel. I dont own one (yet)
I’d recommend a clio 182, I currently have a clio 1.6 16v and it’s great. And I’ve heard lots of great things about the 182. They make great track cars
Sounds louds better. Got A3 (S3 if you're going super hot) or Civic anything 03 onwards. The Civic, imo, probably has the best looking backend of the hot hatches. The triangular dual exhaust 👌
Looks mint mate, i'd reckon get a Golf or a fiesta mk6.5 Zetec S or an ST if its in your budget, you can get MOT failures / high mileage on Autotrader for less than £1500. Some decent ones toward £2000.
I prefer the hornet exhaust, but I love a loud exhaust as you probably remember living on that road. If you want a hot hatch, just take the money you make from the astra and put it into the fiesta, that will go nicely against the mondeo, just saying 🤷♂️
Would you be embarrassed by the sound of a C63 AMG exhaust sound?.. Maybe it's the type of car/exhaust combination your embarrassed with? Maybe try an older VW golf/beetle possibly turbocharged that suits being pimped 😁 a throaty exhaust on the right car shouldn't be embarrassing, you should embrace the head turning aspect lol! But I guess if your using it as a commuter and leaving the house every morning at 6am it's understandable. I've just bought a similar cherrybomb exhaust for my VW pd1.9tdi off eBay and I'm looking forward to hearing it roar!!! Life's to short so enjoy your mods. So far I've had a stage 1 remap, a k&n cold air intake & some cheap lowering springs!🤞🤞🤞 I'm thinking of installing a short shifter soon aswell. Anyway thanks for the videos they are fun to watch 👍👍👍
Exhaust sounds better now! And how about a Vauxhall Vectra b GSI... it's such a nice car to modify and looks amazing for its age!! Also has a cheeky V6 😊😊😊
Exhaust sounds good and looks ok, think you need a focus st 170 to complete your collection! You have a zetec s and an st mondeo??? Surely an st 170 is the logical choice?? Plenty of good cheap ones around and future classic potential is there !
The exhaust sounds alot more suttle and i do prefer it. and if your interested in a good reliable hot hatch look at a mk4 golf 1.8t as it is easily modified ,cheap and the engine is practically bullet proof or even an st170 which Is basically a hatchback version of the Mondeo
Clio 172/182 for me. But why not keep it ford? You have the mondeo, fiesta and focus. So something like a fiesta ST or focus ST170. I’m not exactly a ford fan but I’d still watch.
Would that exhaust fit the mk 5 astra straight bolt on? If so where did you get it? Love a loud exhaust and Im 38! Keep up the good work James love all your vids! I think you should get a small hot hatch like a decent saxo vtr/vts or clio sport? Like the new sound of new exhaust but I'll admit prefer the hornet cherry bomb!
I prefer the second muffler 😁....🇨🇦 Here ....not sure what you should get as we dont have most of the models u got (Re: Vauxhaul and Fords)...except probably the Mondeo(Fusion in Canada) but get what u wanna get.... Ever thought of getting a mk6 fiesta zetec s 1.6 tdci there really good fun cars and cheap to buy and there are loads of modifications you can do to them for pretty low money , I’d honestly love to see one of these on the channel and nice new exhaust mate
Exhaust looks better my ocd has never liked the lower rear splitter mounts not lining up with the parking sensors (if you know you know) would look alright without it, de badge the doors aswell would make it look alot cleaner and higher spec

Rear bumper would look good if just removed the centre section
agreed, I would do that if I was him
Best budget hot hatch has to be the Clio 172 / 182 - A slightly ropy 'project' one could be had for sub £1k
Stephenx77 I had a 172 cup with the fabric seats n turini alloys best hot hatch ever, took so much hammering n still soldiers on
@@evsy21201 I've had 2 cups myself and still got the second one. Great little weekend car!
Sounds exactly the same 👀😂
hard to tell from the camera microphone
I found hornet sounded slightly better
Sounds the same on idle, but quieter when he revved it.
New exhaust looks and sounds mint! Get yourself a MK4 Golf PD150!
____stu____ or a 130 fabia
I have a pd170 16v audi a3 quattro
He said a hot hatch.
@@Katiebop89 do you even know anything about pd engines buddy lol
Omg my PD150 golf engine code ARL wow I still miss her so much so much fun! Replaced her with a 435d more than twice the power and torque but sooooo boring compared to my beloved MK4 GTI diesel
I know its not a hot hatch but what about a bmw e36 with a straight 6 engine just for a change RWD and a bigger engine

I was thinking of the same cars. Those little RS have plenty of power for their weight. I had a 182 a few years ago, and i still miss it.
Quite interested in buying one myself at some point in the next few months. Any chance i can have a chat to you about them at some point?
I'd like to see you continue the Vaux theme but with something old and really challenging. Hmm, a 1975 to 1984 Vauxhall Chevette. Real hot hatch right there!
