My brother recently went to Disneyland for the first time in almost 20 years. I asked him what his plan was, and he was just like, "Eh, just whatever." I had to stress to him that you need a game plan to make the experience enjoyable nowadays. You have to strategize. It's exhausting nowadays.
These changes came AFTER holding focus groups? The most disheartening part of this is that they either don't truly care what the customers want, or they are so delusional that they think this is what everyone is asking for.
Hey Chris! Saw you yesterday in line at the Starbucks in DCA and said hi and we took a selfie -- so great to meet you in person! FRIENDS -- Chris was so, so gracious and nice to me, this wacky person who marched up to him like I've known him for years and hugged him. He's the real deal, was as kind and awesome as he seems here in his videos, He's also taller than I thought, lol. Always hard to judge height on video. Anyway, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him, what luck and a pleasure to meet him. Would love to have met Amanda and Miles (Myles?), hopefully next time! Have a great day, everyone! :)
I also had the honor of meeting/running into him the first time I went to Disneyland in Cali two years ago. He is just like in the videos - the nicest person in the world. My short trip to Disneyland was worth it alone just to meet him.
My sister and her family were at Disneyland earlier this year.....and she saw Chris, and sent me a picture of him "just doing his thing"!!! It was almost more exciting than her sending me a picture with a Disney Character!!!!
@@womanofacertainage5892 thank you so much for acknowledging my response. I know I am not a FAST PASS.....LIGHTENING whatever they call it. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MAGIC!!!!!!
Sounds like they held focus groups just so that could say they held focus groups. Participants probably had to sign an NDA, so no one could publicize what feedback was actually given. Disney already knew what they were going to do.
"multi pass" I have this vision that one person made that 5th Element impression in the conference room when this was announced. It was met with silence and never repeated again.
I thought of Firth Element right off too! It's also occurring to me that in Florida it's essentially the tiered ticket system again, from my childhood. The E TIcket rides are BACK!
@jillflorio5635 But, with the E ticket system, you HAD to purchase the E ticket. Here, you don’t have to purchase the multi pass or single pass. You can still do standby. E tickets had to be purchased. But I kind of understand what you are getting at. 🤔😉
Disney management, every single member of which has NEVER been a park guest, has created a multi-tier guest situation. Regular guests, those that can't afford to spend money on what was free for decades, are relegated to the bottom tier, where we will be subjected to extra long stand by lines while the elite tier guests, those who can have unlimited funds to spend on that was was once free, move right past us and get on attractions in half the time. I hate it and I will NEVER capitulate to Disney management's efforts to price me out of the parks.
Wasting money on a pointless rebrand when they’re changing (practically) nothing about the service itself. Sounds very modern Disney. Modern corporations in general, actually.
We have a hospital here in the Midwest called “Intermountain” that did that. They spent millions of dollars rebranding from “Intermountain Healthcare” to just “Intermountain Health” and changed the logo. The logo is ugly and dropping “care” from the title led to so many jokes about, “Oh, they no longer care!” 😂
Another improvement is that after just your first LL is used (or expires), you can immediately start looking for another LL to book. You don’t have to use all three before you book a fourth, and you no longer have that weird “2-hour” rule where you have to set alarms on your phone for when you can book again. All of that was very confusing to a lot of people. Last time I went, I was the only one in my party of 12, 8 of whom were adults, who understood Genie+, and everyone else was getting very frustrated.
Only in the World of Disney do people think something that used to be included in the ticket price that you now PAY SEPERATE for is in any way an ":improvement"
@@keithbarnes9419 I didn’t say an improvement over FP+, (which let’s be real, they’re never going back to, and literally every other park, unfortunately, also charges for this type of perk); I was simply stating it was an improvement over Genie+. Terrible branding aside, it just sounds like rearranging the deck chairs to squeeze more money from every visitor. Bob Iger has made it so it's almost mandatory to buy the Multipass on top of the already crushing admission charge, and in Florida it sounds like it will not only be mandatory, but it will greatly impact any visitor not staying at a resort. That said, I would have appreciated being able to book Fastpasses (😁) ahead of time, the worst part of our trip to WDW was having to be up at 6:45 every morning desperately trying to book virtual lines and passes. I did not visit Disneyland for the first time until I was 20 years old. After that, it was still a "special occasion" event. BUT SO MAGICAL!!! All this craziness....paying extra to get MORE!!! Instead of appreciating the MAGIC!!!! I don't know if I will ever visit any Disney parks again. And that makes me very sad. It shouldn't be that hard to go on a MAGICAL VACATION!!!!
As a UK resident, who recently visited Disneyland in California for the first time (having visited WDW once in 2005 when paper Fast Passes were still a thing) - I had to do a lot of research to make sure I understood how Lightning Lanes and Genie+ worked. I think the new Lighting Lane Multipass name would have helped me to make sense of it - so I can see why that would have come out of Focus Groups. The only real connection with Disney Genie seems to be the fact you purchase it within the app, so calling it Genie+ was a bit confusing I think. Renaming so it says what it does on the tin (i.e. buy me to be able to enter multiple lightning lanes for these listed attractions) is much clearer (if a little clunky)
Ugh. All of this when Fast Pass and Max Pass were perfectly fine, easy to remember, easy to say. Fast pass is what you call an individual line reservation, Max Pass is what you’d call the service. Done.
They already ruined it, we went last year and it was terrible. Too crowded, hard to navigate the Genie plus (so that’s the same). It will be a while if we ever go again and we loved Disneyland. 😢
Way to go Disney, separate the haves from the have nots, give those who pay a "little" more get to cut in line in front of those who don't, and Disney will still continue to overbook Lightning Lanes making relatively small lines actually have long waits, and the "fix" is to simply call it something else.
Our family also met Chris at Disneyland Maine Street Wednesday. You were so sweet and personable ❤ Took time to talk to my family I got a selfie and we chatted about finding the crabs on Mickey’s Runway Railway. Love the channel and you are great both on screen and off. Thank you 😃
Disney used to be so fun with getting hard copy fast passes for free, now it’s just confusing, requires so much effort, and unfortunately so much money. Doesn’t seem enjoyable when you have to work that much harder to earn money to pay for it and to even figure out how to work the damn thing. 😢
My cousin recently cos-played as Leeloo Dallas, so as soon as I heard you say multi-pass those clips sprang to mind. Now it would be hilarious if people went to the parks dressed as Leeloo and displayed their multi-pass for ride entry.
I know they need to make money for investors and whatnot, but this used to be so simple! Walk up to a ride, see what time you can come back with a fast pass. If you wanted it, great! If space mountain wasn’t available until 11pm, that’s your choice! Now it’s crazy conplicated!
From the moment I heard them say multipass, all I could think of was Fifth Element. My daughter and I just kept saying “MultI-pass”. Disney really needs to vet these names more. 😂
I’m hopeful. After recently coaching my brother through Genie+ for his family vacation I will say it was WAY over complicated for your average family and waking up early every day to get your first selections was no fun. I hope the tier system will help rides not run out so quickly but I’m withholding judgement until we see how much value a family can get out of this without being able to stack like you could with genie+.
This is lame!!!! Can Disneyland just bring back the old system! I’d pay $20 for that. I hate how genie/lightening lane you only get 1 pass per ride a day, when before you could have multiple for the same ride if available. (I’m blanking on the name of that program).
I still say combine the old Free Fast Pass with this new system. When you purchase a ticket you are entitled to 3 free fast passes and if you want additional passes then you would need to purchase them. I have never spent the extra money Genie+ and never will. If I end up spending too many hours standing in line then I'll just stop going (which from recent attendance numbers, seems like a lot of people are doing).
I'm assuming that if you prepay for genie + now for Disneyland california that it will still be honored after the name change & all reservations made through app will still be there?
What a mouth full haha glad its not changing too much for disneyland. Disneyworld sounds like if you are going there you need to sit down and watch this again
They should have left it to only being able to book lightning lanes on same day only, because people staying over a week will take up all the lighting lanes or people will book in advance and not show and it shuts other people out. And really they should just do stand by lines or a $200 unlimited lighting lane access that basically no one will pay for except die hard attraction riders, and the standby lines will go 3 times faster than they do now.
According to what Disney posted, it say you may purchase the LL Multi-pass for only 1 park. So does that means the current option to get Genie+ for all the parks will be gone?
Thanks, Chris. At least they've now gotten rid of virtual queues! In the end, it's about monetizing the former Fast Passes. Sad that those days are forever gone.
One thing I'm confused about is with park hopping. When you go to make your multi-pass reservations for day one of your vacation, say Magic Kingdom, you have to purchase that for MK alone. Does that mean I could not make additional LL reservations for EPCOT after using up one of the LLs? Would I then have to pay another $25-$30 for EPCOT to reserve LLs there? Tom Bricker was saying that once you use one of the LLs at a park, you could then make another at a different park. We have until October to figure it out.
The focus group must have been composed of the executive team. It's pretty hard to imagine this is what normal people were asking for.
Yep
Right?! 😂
lightning lane multi pass is a terrible way to rename what used to just be called “fast pass” 😅
Branding it back to fastpass would confuse a lot of people who haven't been since the fastpass era
And put Dash from The Incredibles on the logo
Too woordy
Just bring back Fast Pass
And don’t make it too complicated
People on vacation don’t want to deal with….they are on vacation
Disney is just making a vacation like work... this whole system sucks.
TOTALLY agree.
I Think I’m more confused now..?

Why didn't Disney hold focus groups before implementing Genie+ ? Good grief... 🤨
Disney to focus group: Do like the name Genie Plus or this new long complicated one?
This is not going to help Disney to compete with Universal's Epic Universe or Universal's simple ticket purchasing.

you can definitely use the genie+ more than once per day per ride, last time I was in Disneyland I used genie+ on haunted mansion twice

So does that means the current option to get Genie+ for all the parks will be gone?
thank you for the update!!!!
Will the same wrist bands work that we’ve purchased before
