Cheers from Victoria Texas Might i say your instructions are done like know one no I have ever heard . I have shared your talents with my friends. and they agree so ! Thank you very much for hard work and dedication . God must really love you !
Adrian, I so enjoyed that so much, I’ve been playing Apache about 20 years, loved your playing and explanations. You’re such a great teacher and musician!
Great to see all these often neglected guitar instrumental classics finally get the recognition they deserve. For a more modern and left field instrumental , Emergency Contraception Blues by the Bombay bicycle club is worth giving a look, wonderfully racous indie. Cheers!
An interesting video - great to hear such an in depth analysis of this great tune. Probably worth mentioning that, for anyone looking to get that distinctive "Shadows" echo, there are a number of options available made specifically for the purpose. The "Blue Nebula" pedal is relatively inexpensive, and replicates Binson and Mehazzi echo machines (as well as others). It also comes pre-configured with echo patterns for the majority of the Shadows more popular tunes. Hall & Collins Signature Echo is another, though not currently in production due a parts shortage. If you have deep pockets, there's also the "TVS3" that Hank uses himself 🙂
400 ms on the first delay, 115ms on the second, single repeat on both, adjust balance to taste but less volume on the second is more authentic. pedals in series of course.
Great lesson Adrian. It’s fantastic to go back in time for such an iconic tune. Thank you for showing us the correct way to play it, you have a fantastic ability to communicate so all levels of players learn something.
Excellent - 2 parts for the price of one! I play this with a friend almost every time we get together, but was off on a couple of bits, now we (‘A bloody shambles’) can rise above our name…this one never gets old. Many thanks…
Really good detailed lesson. I've been playing Apache at gigs for about 30 years, but picked up a couple of good tips that work and sound more authentic the way you demonstrated. Anyone that plays a lot of Shadows songs would benefit greatly from buying a Hall & Collins Signature echo pedal, plus a Hank Marvin Easy Mute tremolo arm for a Stratocaster, which is what Hank currently uses. It makes it easier to pick whilst holding the tremolo arm.
Really enjoyed these Apache videos! One thing to bear in mind is that in the days when Hank recorded Apache etc light gauge strings weren't available meaning that string bending wasn't really an option, so he used the tremelo bar instead. Also heavy strings contributed to his sound. He's mentioned this several times over the years.
Adrian, a piece of advice if some of your viewers want the multi-delay on a budget is that NuX does 2 affordable Roland Space Echo pedals - the Tape Core and their new Tape Echo pedal. Both have multi-head functions, sound great, and are much cheaper than the offerings from Boss or Strymon. But I totally applaud the approach of trying to use whatever you have lying about first. I'm a heretic and play The Ventures version of this, so I've not had to fuss with it too much.
Yeah, Nokie double picked a whole section thar Hank did with the echo; I originally learned the song from the Vs (Shadows just weren't a thing in the States then), so that's one way I got double picking down. :-)
Great to see both videos Adrian, been playing and learning guitar less than a year, but feel this is a track I want to try and conquer over the summer. I always find myself coming back to your stuff, it's so well presented. I'm maybe not past the noob stage yet, but with your videos, it gives me inspiration to try harder, great work!, I have Line 6 amp, with effects so may get a bit close maybe to the sound.
Very Good! Thank you! It was very informative. Not with you on the diatonic, harmonics, theory stuff, but your instruction on this song is great! It isn't a hard song to play but it does take some equipment, as you have very well pointed out, to get the right sound. I have the Spark modeling amp and still can't get the sound as good as you have it. I think two different delays is key. With the Spark I can get close with one delay and one reverb, but not as close as yours. Unfortunately, the Spark app is limited to only one delay. Thanks again, love it! Surfs up dude! My favorite genre! Gnarly!
I really enjoyed watching and learning from this video - as well as part1. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into explaining some theory and especially the nuances in playing this tune. However, I couldn't help notice that you left out explaining the slide up on the low E string for the 2nd part of the final gallop. So I went back to part one where you ran through the whole song and paid attention :^)
Incredible insight on the effects Adrian, thanks! to me the two Boss delay pedals in series sound very good. Not being a fan of digital modeling units and downloadable presets, I think I would go for this option.
I have recently been watching The Shadows Final Tour DVD which was filmed in Cardiff in 2004. They are as tight as a duck's a*se and Hank's playing is flawless and his tone is like liquid gold. I didn't recognise the amp he appears to be playing (it isn't a Vox). Of course he is playing his Fiesta Red Strat most of the time but they all switch to Burns for a couple of numbers. I had forgotten just how good they were.
Hi Adrian, that old Line 6 DL4, sounds good to me! I think that you have got the right settings for this one 'trust me!' I was very impressed and I will have to track one of those down for myself. Thank you, take care Vic
Thank you Adrian for digging into such an incredible tune, associated to so many childhood memories. Makes me think of a suggestion: why not look into some Khruangbin stuff such as August 10 or Como me quieres, such great lead and melodic guitar parts!
This video was SO informative. Well pleased I found you. Just starting out on guitar. At 75 I've got plenty of catching up to do. Only interested in Shadows tunes, and one of my questions on YT was if I could use 2 delay pedals in series, each tuned to different delay times, which I understand is what Hank used. You've answered this, so many thanks. Still building my Strat-ish and don't own an amp or the pedals yet. All in good time. At least I now know what I need, or rather what I could get away with without breaking the bank.... Many thanks mate. Subscribed... Is there any reverb in there? I've half considered a delay/reverb combo. Wondering if reverb would be needed for Shadows tunes?
? Please could ya do some Carl Perkins' songs like Blue Suede Shoes and Honey Don't? So hard to find a good tutorial! Thanks for the Apache videos; I love the channel!
Great informative Video! Apache is one of favourite Shadows track, along with, at least 6 others. Are you considering, doing other Shadows tracks? I for one, would really appreciate your influence on other tracks.
Your old DL4 pedal is being re-released as the Mk2, check it out. Also Boss has just released not one but two (digital) recreations of your old RE-201, in this case the RE-2 and larger 202.
Thank you! I Very clear, learned a lot! Have a question : is the G# taken from the A harmonic minor scale ? it sounds good when you play a E over it...
Great video as usual. Does anyone know how to set up these delays on a Boss GT-1000? I've only just got one and haven't got my head around all the settings yet.
Ha ha, yes. A globally renowned TH-camr, love the humour you throw in from time to time. So… you went down Hank Marvin echo sound rabbit hole, and look, you came out relatively unscathed but will informed, very well done. May I ask where you got the patched for your Kemper please?
I think I sent to the place so I sent again do you think you could help me with set up it does not sound right I have a fender American strat with n3pickups on and s1 switch and a zoom g3 with Ross halls patches for most of the shadows sounds and a Roland cube 40amp I play the amp on clean with no effects on no gain no reverb bass low mid half way term low guitar tons full on and does not sound right strings are 10 does not sound like how you play please please can you help me ps very well played thanks pete
Or wrap some PTFE tape around the threads on the bar, been using that on a couple of mine for a long time where I can’t the bar to stay where I want it. It is an old and commonly solution.
They all sounded good to me, but I am just a beginner guitar player, one thing that keeps bugging me when I hear others on TH-cam play this song, for some reason it is in my mind when I heard this being played when I was a lot younger it seems to me that there is one part of this song that sounded like someone ran their pick or something up and down the strings to give it a scratchy sound and it seems like it is missing in this, or that I am thinking of a different song maybe played by the Ventures, I think their should be a scratchy sound added to this, it should come right after the horse type bass beat, give it a try.
Cheers from Victoria Texas Might i say your instructions are done like know one no I

This song started my love for the sound of the electric guitar!
Adrian, I so enjoyed that so much, I’ve been playing Apache about 20 years, loved your playing and explanations. You’re such a great teacher and musician!
Thanks, been working on this for a while. This is very helpful. That is one handsome Strat.
One of my favourite tunes.....Great playing and tone...thanks for tackling this one - great job.

Comment of the year. Thanks 😴

the coolest lesson i’ve had on youtube
Such a classic! Thanks for going in-depth. Whammy bar engaged!
I recall as a child (I'm 55 now) my father spinning a Ventures album with this song entitled, Apache 65'
Great lesson Adrian. It’s fantastic to go back in time for such an iconic tune. Thank you for showing us the correct way to play it, you have a fantastic ability to communicate so all levels of players learn something.

Outstanding and thank you I will lean this

Thank you for this! 🙏
Hey CC
I think you could have some fun on your Baritone with this iconic tune.

Spot on tone mate. I'd like to see you tackle In A Big Country.
Timeless music played by a stellar guitarist..... What more do ya need?
I could see you doing a really cool lesson on playing some Ennio Morricone stuff on guitar

It was a custom made amp from Australia & it was awesome!
Superb
Da, da. Da da
was Hanks explanation, da, da first delay then repeat on second..works for me😁
Still the best tuition.
Merci good professor 💖🎸😎💖😉
This is great stuff! Thank you!

Wow 222k subs you are a big influencer and deserve all your success.thanks
Hey Adrian where are you? Missing your video of the week:) Hope you’re well.
Thank you Adrian for digging into such an incredible tune, associated to so many childhood memories. Makes me think of a suggestion: why not look into some Khruangbin stuff such as August 10 or Como me quieres, such great lead and melodic guitar parts!
Another suggestion: some Mick Green... let's say the Pirates' version of "Ecstasy"... what a guitar!
I actually live in Apache, cheers mate.

After the ending galloping notes Hank or Jet plays a bass riff , then the outro as per the intro.

Great 👍😃
very good lesson could you tell me please what that guitar is you’re playing I really like the sound of that. Many thanks, Michael Harrison
What about the setting for reverb in conjunction with the delay?
Can I recommend the Joyo NASCAR Delay? Thought not ;)

Great lesson could you do a lesson of the original version Bert Weedon
I think you'd like a version of "Apache" by Rockets (French band, late 70s), Adrian.
Great stuff but I can’t find part one
Great lesson! I can never do that with a whammy bar on my Strat without the strings going out of tune.
More you do it, more the vibrato becomes stable (it sort of trains itself - that was my experience on the basic 6 screw vibratos.)
08:40 how many bpm is the gallup part played at full speed. slowly trying ti buld up speed but im not sure what im aiming for
That is a weird looking pick you are using, it doesn't look like a regular thumb pick. I love this lesson by the way.
Next up - Sacha!
My question is how do you make it that your vibrato bar to stay in that position? Plus I always liked the song
there should be a spring in the hole that the whammy bar screws into
Or wrap some PTFE tape around the threads on the bar, been using that on a couple of mine for a long time where I can’t the bar to stay where I want it.
It is an old and commonly solution.
@@jaytee8188 My bar is too wonky even with the spring - have to use the plumbers tape too

No, you're right; that was the Ventures' version.
@@Tyrannocaster ya I thought so. Thanks for that.
Obviously this gets a like also, 👍

Adrian, are you OK, I just haven't seen anything new? I hope all is well
