I think the lower powered sports bikes are really fun. You get the fun handling and great brakes. Cool looks. Plus. It's fun to really get a twist on the throttle without risk of jail time 😮😮😮
If I’m riding for fun I find 40-60bhp is the sweet spot. Being able to thrash an engine to within an inch of its life without getting into trouble with the laws of physics or local law enforcement is one of life’s few remaining thrills. Love the look of the R7 but not a huge fan of middleweight twins, tend to end up hitting the limiter waiting for it all to kick off and it never really does.
Hei Ka for R7 will be preferred by very few because of it's ergonomics.Maximum people prefer Conventional model motorcycles ( Caferacers,Adventure bikes,Retro style,RE,Triumph,HD).I liked your sweet voice video🎉
Lovely review. This bike has had some bad press but I love it and bought one in blue after a test ride a few weeks back. Im glad to see you liked it as It has a lot to offer i think.

My last few bikes have been Triumph Bobber > Triumph Speedmaster > Harley Streetbob. Couple months ago i was bored and went to my local Yamaha. Sat on an R7 and was asked if i wanted to take it out. Was just about to say “no” but for some reason i said OK. 2hr test ride later i was trading my Harley in for one 🥴😂.
Picking mine up tomorrow, first street bike besides my supermoto. Even if it's underpowered for me, i'm just gonna get good at stunting it up anyways. One wheel is where it's at.
That'll get you to the pub so much quicker mate. Seriously though, while I do not need any extra performance myself over what this bike has to offer, that triple Yamaha has going on, with the right exhaust sounds as good as anything I've ever heard of, including a CBR650R with an aftermarket exhaust.

My mate had an SV650 that would be up your arse if he caught you snoozing! His mantra was you only need brakes to come to a stop. Clarkey, you are a legend mate. Me, I worship at the 'busa altar, and I stay humble, yet learn how to make the use of it. Hartside pass is awesome on it.
Aprillia's are beautiful, great spec on paper but I simply would not trust the brand. I have better things to do with my time and money than struggle with reliability issues.
You kinda nailed it when you talked about bragging rights. Inevitably people are going to ask how much HP it makes and how fast it goes and this is where it all starts unravelling for a lot of people. Not gonna judge, whatever rocks your boat. Personally couldn't care less and my wife certainly took a chill pill when she heard 70ish HP because the moment she saw the R7 and realized I'm going to get a sportbike she geared up for combat. There's a certain etiquette that follows sportbike riders, has been written with blood over the years and to the eyes of the non-bike people they are the machines of doom. They symbolize the high testosterone lifestyle of young men and the recklesness that accompanies it. 2 years on and R6 fanboys still haven't gotten over Yamaha's betrayal. Doesn't matter if the R7 kills the R6 everywhere it doesn't have more than 10k revs on the tach,it's all about bragging rights and the one moment you open up on the highway and change dimensions. Times a changin.
Not a lover of parallel twin sports bikes. Prefer 4 cylinder ones. I do own a Hornet though and think that engine might be better than the MT-07 one. 🤔
I dont notice wrists getting locked or trapped against the tank at all... Wrists do get tired but it's ok for about two hrs of riding, taking a short break to fill up and a snack and wrists are fine for the next two hours. I love the committed position. It has more than enough power for the road.
Looks good. Took it back to dealer after 4 miles test riding as uncomfortable. Rather have an R6. Bars hit tank its just a MT07. New Suzuki in 2024 will kill this off. It's a track day bike, but lots of better options
Nive looking bike but not sure its going to be selling very well at that price.Obviously aimed at newbies wanting a sports. Prefer the older r6,gixxer 6's,750's etc...and alot cheaper now.

I look at the R7 and think if Yamaha wanted a sporty road bike (utilizing the CP2 engine) a less aggressive riding position would have better suited its intended purpose. If they wanted a more focused twin cylinder sport bike a racier tuned engine like the Honda Hornet gets would have been a better fit. Finally please take the R7's adjustable USD fork, better brakes, slipper clutch and put them on the very deserving MT07 making it competitive again to other middle weight naked bikes.
It suits people who want that aggressive sporty option who don't need a peaky and expensive 600. You want something more relaxed just buy a SV650 or a Ninja 650 or even CBR650R. Options are good for consumers.

Looks pretty in the Red and White, I’m fed up of many of the manufacturers chucking out twin cylinder bikes 😢. May suit some people, I’ve not had a two cylinder bike since 1975 , GT185 Suzuki 2 stroke great bike 😊👍🏻.
I mean two cylinders make sense, great practical usable power for the street, lower maintenance, more fugal... In saying that I would like to see more 3 cylinder options.

It is possible but I am 10 years older than you and my back cannot do it. I had surgery due to an accident and I had to change the handlebars for my k1200s to that of the k1200r. Best regards

Hello, good evening, it's normal, I've had a lot of sports, sorry, it's only good for doing 100km on circuits or short outings, and at my age I do 800 km in a day and the position of the handlebars is more logical and my cardan is great, greetings Stephan
@@chema1546 you just need to be fit, it's quite normal to spend all day on an R7, it's not as committed as an R6 or R1, it's a good compromise. I ride with guys that are around 10 years older than me than do long trips on sport bikes, entirely possible. I did a 2000 mile trip around Scotland on a sport bike, up to 7 hrs a day no issues, could have done more easily.
I am a V-twin man but I think I could VERY well live with this, UNK, UNK! You say it all about the more then adequate power. Just whip it a bit more! Not surprised about the steering lock though. The bars look too straight so that’s a bit of style coming before functionality. Dead against riding on the balls of your feet though. Might look extra racy but does not work on the street. Will always cost you a second of braking time in bad situations. Thanks Kate.
One could argue that you should be 75% on your front brake anyway, that extra second lag on the back foot might mean you don't lock up the back wheel and slide out in an emergency brake. Well discussed topic at UK training centres, which in my opinion is far ahead of the game in terms of basics. Each to their own.
@@101BadBreath Not a valid argument. Being too late with your foot will ALWAYS lengthen the braking distance. It might even force you to stomp the system into the ABS mode. It’s a proven fact that staying just outside of ABS leads to a shorter braking distance. Sorry, but good braking is science related stuff. Riding assistance gadgets might still help but facts and skills will save your life when the going gets tough, pub discussions won’t.
@@marcbrasse747 go Practice hitting your back brake too early in an emergency brake and see how far it gets you, we can even compare scars. UK testing system far more comprehensive than most other countries ... good luck saying it's not a valid argument there. They even train to keep your big toe touching the side of the brake lever so a) you are not activating the rear brake light unnecessarily and b) so you have you foot up before sliding it onto the lever and then press down again to be sure that you front brake is activated first and rear brake just ends up being a 25% support and possibly help reduce nose driving. Having your foot further back is the same away from the back break lever is the same. It's a good muscle memory to train, especially since not all bikes have ABS, or even ABS on the rear.

for city/countryside riding, you point blank don’t need more power. if you want to be a highway boi and go very fast in a straight line, go for an R1 instead.
Question is why buy this over an suzuki sv650. Seems glorified to me. To be sports bike uncomfortable for no reason. It's just a fake sports bike all these classes under 600cc and this r7 feel like replicas.
I bought this over a SV650. Don't get me wrong a SV650 is a great bike but I wanted something more modern, dynamic and up to date, a more committed sports bike. I also prefer Yamaha as a brand to Suzuki. It is also a far better looking bike, especially in the 60th Anniversary colour. I also don't understand how people don't see that having alternatives and options for consumers is a good thing for consumers.
@@101BadBreath but if you wanted a sports bike or commited sports bike why not get something like a cbr600rr, zx6r, gsxr600, rs660 or a used r6 I wouldnt consider an r7 a sports bike more of a imitation of one. This is why I asked why buy an r7 over an sv650 they're about same in power and Im sure the suzuki might be a bit cheaper. I really don't see why the r7 was brought out it's not even a replacement for the r6...
A used 600 is looking for trouble, just buy some one else's trouble after they 100% pulled it through their ass. R7 more cost effective to buy and own from new, insurance is way cheaper, so it lowers the barrier to entry, for many while still having great brakes and suspension and commited rider triangle..is lighter and trains you well in the corners, it not all about power and speed to gain skills mate. Why do you think 600's are for the most part a sales failure and R7 has been a sales success for Yamaha. I appreciate an SV650, I test rode it and it was too old and not for me, it's not rocket science to understand and not always about power. I don't understand why 600 snowflakes are so butthurt/ defensive Vs a R7 if it is so bad like they say that it is... when in reality both can exist and be appreciated for different reasons. Consumer wins when there is more choice. Not everyone is comfortable or enjoys the peaky nature of a 600, and they are more expensive to buy, own and run. A Sv650 is great old bike, but it's not as dynamic and it's not for everyone. Clearly Yamaha is doing something right with it as it sells well, and owning one it's not hard to understand why.
imo the R7 is a lot more comfortable and just leagues better looking than the SV650, not to mention the yamaha vs suzuki thing. to each his own I guess
The electronics are terrible, because there are none except ABS and the engine is a massive letdown, it doesn't feel like 70 hp and it's dead up top. The design is nice but that's about it
Nice bike, good infomative video, however there is something I hear quite often lately and i don't agree is : having low hp and rev it hard is better than high hp and ride slow. What I've learnt through the years is: the best way to use an internal combustion engine is half way to the red line, and avoid low / high for long periods also safety, longevity and cost, ( I am not talking track use) unfortunately everyone averages about forty miles an hour regardless of power on the roads. Excellent advice by the way to go and test one, after all we don't buy motorcycles to look at!🙂

Exactly, as a returning rider I picked up a 2018 Ninja 400 KRT in 2021 and it's the best bike I ever sold. Enjoying the R7 too though.
Its a gorgeous looking bike Kate, I am however, a Yamaha fan boy even though I am on a KTM these days. Its a perfect first sports bike for new riders.

That might just be the chin mount camera that Kate tends to use but it does look obscured to me, too.

I am 49 years old and regularly do more than 100km on my stock R7 lol

A Sv650 is great old bike, but it's not as dynamic and it's not for everyone. Clearly Yamaha is doing something right with it as it sells well, and owning one it's not hard to understand why.
imo the R7 is a lot more comfortable and just leagues better looking than the SV650, not to mention the yamaha vs suzuki thing. to each his own I guess
The electronics are terrible, because there are none except ABS and the engine is a massive letdown, it doesn't feel like 70 hp and it's dead up top. The design is nice but that's about it

Ugh, it sounds terrible, just like thecrest of the p twins. People just say they do because they can't admit the truth to themselves.
Nice bike, good infomative video, however there is something I hear quite often lately and i don't agree is : having low hp and rev it hard is better than high hp and ride slow.
What I've learnt through the years is: the best way to use an internal combustion engine is half way to the red line, and avoid low / high for long periods also safety, longevity and cost, ( I am not talking track use) unfortunately everyone averages about forty miles an hour regardless of power on the roads.
Excellent advice by the way to go and test one, after all we don't buy motorcycles to look at!🙂

The R7 has a lot of low down grunt, you don't need to push it hard at all and it still has plenty poke.
