    Decades ago, met him at the Ottawa airport. All he did was ask me what plane I was coming off, as he was expecting someone from the same flight. He came across as a completely ordinary person, and if you didn't know who he was, you'd not have known he was a politician. His dress and demeanor were completely like that of the ordinary person -- so much so, that I didn't even ask if he was Ed Broadbent or what he was doing there. No entourage, and disappeared right into the crowd. The encounter was very much face-to-face and plain language direct, which is something that we don't see a lot of today.

I don’t know if he appreciated me addressing him with Gidday Ed, but he was always pleasant and left me a tip. Tips were very few and far between so on minimum wages, any tip was most welcomed. I met him outside of work and again, he was always approachable and pleasant.

      If by fighting for working class Canadians you mean crushing the middle class to fortify the wealth of the government then yea... the NDP is nothing like it was back when he was the leader. They would consider him a far right extremist by todays NDP standards.

    • @garyhaggquist740
      @garyhaggquist740 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UltraFiero Spare us the Poilievre Conservative disinformation. You are more accurately describing Conservatives who have never been on the side of workers.
      The last Conservative federal government which Poilievre was a cabinet minister in, was the most anti-union, anti-worker government in generations. They legislated fines against unions fighting for pay equity, made it harder for laid-off workers to access unemployment benefits, restricted union members’ right to strike, cut back on pension payments for retired workers and tried to discourage unionization.
      Conservatives have no track record of standing up for working Canadians - they have a long track record of delivering for their Bay Street buddies over the people! Poilievre is a millionaire career politician connected to Canada’s elite!
      Meanwhile, the NDP party has successfully leveraged its position in this minority parliament to secure a "Confidence & Supply" agreement and in less than 2 years has succeeded in forcing the government to get results for the working class:
      - an historic healthcare advancement - a national dental care program.
      - doubling of the GST rebate two years in a row.
      - a Canada Housing Benefit for low-income people who are spending over 30% of their income on rent.
      - forced government to make 10 paid sick days the law of the land.
      - forced government to make childcare dollars permanent.
      - forced government to tie funding for incentives to business to jobs for the first time ever. Full tax credit only when a company creates jobs with good wages - tied to union jobs and apprenticeships.
      - forced a change to the definition of affordability making sure that federal dollars go to projects that actually deliver affordable homes.
      - forced Competition Bureau to investigate food prices, who then made recommendations that the NDP is forcing government to put in place.
      - called in CEOs of big grocery stores to answer questions in committee exposing that their greed is driving up the cost of food - and proposing solutions.
      - forced government to remove GST from the construction of new rental apartments.
      - forced government to introduce legislation that will prohibit the use of replacement workers in the event of a strike or lockout in any federally regulated industry.
