Birds have unique sleep patterns that differ from mammals. For example, birds have shorter Non-rapid Eye Movement and Rapid Eye Movement sleep cycles. Birds also have a sleep state called unihemispheric slow-wave sleep, where they keep half of their brain awake to be alert to predatorsbirds find a secluded branch or a tree cavity, fluff out their down feathers beneath their outer feathers, turn their head to face backward and tuck their beak into their back feathers, and close their eyes. Hmm, yes…Your analogy is a very important one. I’m a garden birdwatcher btw, feed them each day and have nesting boxes and shrubs etc. Thing is, like fledglings, we lost our home some years back and our 18 and 19 year old had to live somewhere. My home was just bricks and mortar, but the pain of having to let them go so young lingers to this day.

As a professor of organic fans, I would say that birds, great beers that they are, sleep in small byzantian churches, where a nun plays the harp for them...😅
yes, it is a question; my observation shows me smallish birds find cubby holes in houses, and lamp post, and street lights, old holes in trees, in vents of sky scrappers and big box stores and etc. and the one's that don't tend to be pigeons, crows, and seagulls who brave all types of weather on ledges and bridges. so as i mull over this question with the temps outside at 4 degrees, i would say having a home is a more of an advantage than a disadvantage. especially for a cute guy like me who likes a warm house to live in in the winter. I'm not sure why i don't have feathers or build nests but that's neither here nor there. But like birds i do enjoy peanut butter.
Since baby birds don't wear diapers, the nests get pretty nasty by the time they fledge. Even the fledglings leave as soon as they can, even though many can barely fly.
Watch out Attenborough. Katie is getting ready to take your place, the honours and titles as well I presume, and a seat at the kings table when dignitaries are visiting. And that is when I woke up 😂😂
Birds sleep wherever they can find a perch, but some prefer nesting in Labour HQ-apparently, it’s the one place where everyone spends all night flapping and nothing ever actually takes off.
Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
The Magpies in my area either sit on the roofs or on telephone lines like Hitchcock's The Birds. They haven't attacked anyone yet but they crap all over my car when the trees are in fruit!
Nests are made for making baby birds. My dear departed mom used to say "Sometimes the bird has to be kicked out of the nest to make it fly." She also used to say "You get to make your own bed and lie in it." People are not birds, but you can draw your own conclusions.
Half the birds are currently in the roof of my house or the garage roof or anywhere else they can get in!! Loads of them and i provide a laurel hedge for them but no, not interested 😬

Comical Katie, lol, Brilliant !! Thanks again Katie.
More interesting question I lived in the open country for six decades where are the birds that used to be in large numbers
I'm 78. I'm pleased to have a nest every day of the year! That stuff may suit the birds, but I wouldn't survive a night in a hedge!
Me neither!
I'm grateful for my nest too 🙂
Best advice for the van life.

You made me chuckle. You're lovely Katie.

It's a metaphor to the parents of kids who still have them nesting well after it's time to leave the nest. Not a synopsis on birds SMH.
I’m grateful for your input….because I’ve often wondered where they sleep. TY.
@@PaladinPierce Turns out the question of where birds sleep is more interesting than where parents sleep after the kids have flown.
Good point Katie...

Where can I get some?
Love it! Another question I have is that thousands of birds die every day, but you very rarely see a dead bird anywhere. Why? Where do they all go?
If you look ye will find... usually already pretty much bones by time they fall out of a tree or a cat, fox, rat will take them pretty quickly if they do fall to the ground.

They're food to other wild life.
@@PureBlood-TV-OfficialWrong, I live in the country have nature cams all over the place and have racing pigeons, zero dead birds anywhere.

Thank you Katie for such a wonderful post. What do they eat in winter when the worms are asleep miles under the frozen ground?
My question is “What strain is Katie smoking today.”
Birds go south for the pub and sleep. Come north in spring for the goodies, reproduce and go south again.

In people's lofts, roof spaces etc
Nonsense.
Certainly true in my house.
In winter birds sleep in flocks in trees to keep warm, in summer they perch on a branch, only time bird's sleep in a nest is if they have eggs.
I don't know where they sleep. But I bet you lot find a way to blame it on the COVID jab 😂
