Very Chinese. Put two dudes in the 'buried alive' zone with sticks, instead of springing for something that can poke the sand from outside the basin to loosen it. This shit is what kept Liveleak alive, back in the day.
its for the protection of the conveyor belt when its fully loaded without the boards the conveyor belt wouldnt be able to work as there would be too much pressure for it to move!
The Chinese used a wench to pull out those covers. Work smarter not harder. It's dangerous to be down in there in such a vulnerable position. They also had a rope to pull themselves out with too
