Thank you for this upload. The London 2012 BBC is not providing video feed for this event so I wanted to find out what it is about.

It´s very interesting to see the complete difference in expression between Kalioujnyi (100% focus on the target, almost predatory intensity) and Podhrasky (100% zoned out from everything but the target, almost Zen like calm).

Maybe not to you, but you don't have to complain
because most of us watching love the sport.

I bet those are extremely expensive weapons.

A used one will run around 1200-1600usd for a slightly dated Walther or Hammerli and new ones can run at high as 4500 for a pardini. They're about average in terms of price for purpose built competitive shooting pistols.

grapefruit... the preliminary scores add up to qualify for finals but finalists scores are zeroed and it is a real shoot-off. Scoring in rapidfire at this level is electronic decimal and a "perfect" bullseye can score 10.9 Only hit or miss with hit ring being 9.7 or better! 9.6 or less is a "miss". designed to make the finals more exciting but has been contentious.

I dont understand that, they shoot on a target with a scale from 0-10 whi they say how many misses you have out of 5 rounds, is everything else than 10 a miss?

In Finals every hit above a 10.2 counts as a hit.

That's a purely opinion based statement, and you can literally say that to any sport you don't like.

At 25:05 the guy next to the shooter is aiming down range and is acting as if he is trying to distract the shooter.. Is this allowed to be up at the bench when not shooting? Sanderson is his name. He's a goofass

    • @willywonka4340

+Preston Lowery Keith Sanderson is one of the best shooters out there. He is an NRA bullseye National Champion a few years back in addition of being a top World Class rapid fire shooter. Personally I don't see what he did from 25:05 onward that proved your point. He wasn't being distracting in any way. If you are referring to his raised gun pointed downrange then made quick circular movement before he turned his head to the gun, that's just him trying to find his natural point of aim as part of getting locked in for the following series of 5 shots. Nothing wrong with that.

What the hell is wrong with this guy representing the US?! I can land 3 out of 5 hits on a 2 foot target 120 yards out with a .40 cal pistol. I'm pretty sure these guys aren't shooting .40 cal or 120 yards. How do I apply for the team? This guy's score is embarrassing

Haha... No offense meant but you obviously do not have much experience in the world of precision competition good sir... Finals in rapid fire are not judged by a target ring score but by a "hit" or a "miss". This does not mean hitting or missing the entire target, or the big black circle. A hit is a 9.7 or above, which is about an 11 cm circle on the target. At 25 meters, thats pretty impressive. Especially in 4 seconds. And yes they are using .22's, not .40 cals. References: my coach is Emil Milev (google him)

Not to mention the stress of finals. If you've ever shot in a stressful situation you know how much it effects your fine tuned movements. Going head to head with other shooters is super stressful and distracting. Plus that guy is Kieth Sanderson, you should probably google him too, he's not too shabby....

Realy? In 4 seconds? On 5 separate targets? Yes they dont shoot at 120yds, but the HIT area is not even 13cm in diameter...and the distance is 25m.

I really hope the ISSF will at some point make their broadcasts understandeable to non-insiders! This is a typical comment by somebody who doesn't know the sport, and it's understandeable!. You only see five *huge* black targets and you think "why would anybody miss those targets?". They would need to thoroughly explain that there are rings on these targets, and in the international finals, only a 9.7 or better counts as a hit (and that 9.7 is a small circle of about 4.3 inches). The shooter's arm has to be at a 45° downward angle, then the light turns green and they have 4 seconds to raise their arm and hit all five targets.
Also don't underestimate the fact that this is one-handed shooting. Although it's only cal .22 lr, it is much harder to quickly aim and stabilize a gun one-handed than two-handed.

If they are stupid enough to go to a shooting competition without ear protection, they can sit with their fingers up their ears. :D
