    I have 3 stick blenders....pick them up in thrift stores when I find them....I switch out between the 3 of them for liquid soap making! When one starts to get hot, I use the 2nd and so on......

    @jodifacello-oberry7805 10 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Jen, I make liquid soap all the time and no need to keep stickblending like that. KOH likes heat and so I put it in the crock on high, stickblend for a few minutes, then come back to it every 5-10 minutes or so and stick blend again. It will come together with that method and save your stickblender :) I just do other stuff in between time lapses. HTH

      I do it the same way. Let the heat help drive the reaction & work for you. I have never got my stick blender really hot. I also put a silicone baking mat by the crockpot. I can lay spatulas & stick blender on it. Super easy clean up.

      Thank you for stating this about lye and once it's gone through the saponification lye isnt there anymore after its cured.

    • @The-Hillside-Garden
      @The-Hillside-Garden 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its not about lye being present. Soap (saponified oils) naturally has a high PH ...anywhere from 8-11. Hair needs much more acidic product 4.5- 5.5 ideally) So soap will never be good for hair...far too alkaline, which is why people end up needing to use a vinegar rinse ...to restore acidity. Liquid & solid shampoo is made from a blend of surfactants, not saponified oils.

    I love your video's!! You are always so informative and charming!! :D I've made a lot of liquid soap and what I've learned is that stick blending doesn't make too much of a difference when it comes to trace or speeding up the cook process. I stick blend for a few minutes then cover with a lid and come back about 10 mins later to stick blend again for another minute or so. Again leave it for another 10 mins or so keeping an eye on it that it doesn't start to thicken too quickly and come over the sides when you're not looking. Liquid soap is an HP soap and will come together without having to stick blend continually. I do this until it becomes too thick to stick blend. It has saved my stick blender and my arms a lot by doing it this way. :D

    I am not so sure I would have the courage to experience new things in soaping like liquid, color, exotic oils.....etc if it weren't for such great tutorials like yours. Thank you for taking the time to make them and show all of us how to make different soaps and other goodies.
    I think before I attempt this I will get a cheaper back up stick blender to give my good one time in between to cool off.
    What size crock pot do you use for this?
    In all of your soap tutorials that I have seen so far, you use a "cream" what is that and where do you get it. Also the silk you use, where do you get that?
    Thank you!!

    I made homemade soap all the time thanks for all who shared them on TH-cam....at first I hated them I thought it is so hard...like cooking...you need to know if store bought or restaurant food is good for your health....then I found out lots of chemicals used on all of them...both are never healthy...I still make mistakes in making homemade soap...because I love making them homemade soap and my health is important to me so as food...now I feel good I can make my own homemade soap...it is my goal someday to share with people...a thin oil need extra lye or add other oils I also love coconut but I was disappointed because coconut oil at Amazon I bought doesn't smell coconut at all....so I went an extra miles to make my homemade coconut oil...I bought a real coconut and make my own coconut oil...and I love my own homemade soap...it is amazing to me making my own homemade soap...yes stick blender gets so hot and I found out to thicken them is make an experiment on how to thicken them...what I do is make bar soap first then just melt the bar soap to make liquid soap or anything I want...lastly I made olive oil and sheabutter bar soap it is an amazing bar soap and melting them to make liquid soap...I used to blend a long time now I don't I just did an experiment on how to thickened soap....

    I was just sitting here, giggling over watching this right after I posted 3 videos on making liquid soap. So much of what you have said I repeated in my own videos. LOL Too funny.
    Try increasing the crock heat to high during the blending & cook. That may help the shorten the time it takes to emulsify. You can also use 10% Sodium Hydroxide and 90% Potassium Hydroxide. That helps mine with it's viscosity just a tad.

      If you are going to start playing with mixed lye formulas, you need to know that, depending on your % of Sodium Hydroxide, the soap can separate. Start with a very low % of Sodium Hydroxide in a small test batch then work up from there.

    Hi Jen, I was wondering if you use regular lye or the Potassium Hydroxide? In your liquid soap base. Thank you.

      You must use potassium hydroxide for liquid soap, but the dual-lye method uses about 80% potassium hydroxide and 20% sodium hydroxide to help it come to trace faster but stay liquid. you'll need to use a lye calculator.

    A secondary blender even a cheap one, would help. A lesson from the gun world "two is one and one is none" thanks for the video.

    Oh my Gosh!
    I have a craze to create a 100% herbal shampoo. Just stumbled upon your video. Your enthusiasm is praiseworthy. But i am bit disappointed by two aspects...1 there are not too many comments that means ppl are interested only in ready made packages(though may be cheated) 2. you have not answered to the ppl in comments section.
    If you had answered properly then i could share my recipe of 100per cent organic shampoo based on oils and pure herbal assensses. Still i salute to your passion for this. stay blessed.
    Respects from Pakistan.

    When I made my soap base, I switched between 2 stick blenders, so as not to burn one out, it helped a lot, when they got warm, I just changed to another stick blender.

    Just a thought on the laundry detergent (this is soap, not detergent but I understand that it was meant as a replacement for it). DON"T add too much 100% coconut soap that is not properly diluted as it can damage your clothing and will make LOTS of suds. Laundry "detergent" is a low-suds formula.

    Thank you for the recipe. How much silk do you use in the recipe. The silk isn't listed in the recipes above.
    Thank you

    Jen, I apologize if I am asking to any question, but once you make the soap base, and add the distilled water, how do you get the soap to dissolve. It's been in the crockpot since 11am, but the soap paste seems to be a solid piece of gunk. If I try to stir the mixture sticks to the spoon.

    Great video thanks for showing us how to make liquid soap. I'm a die hard cold processor - but this looks good. Kitchen Aid are an excellent brand - I have their food stand mixer and it's fab! I do use Robot Coupe for stick blenders though, since I make batches of Cold Process soap in 10kg batches at a time - whats that in pounds.... about 22lbs? I find the larger commercial stick blenders give a beautifully smoother finish to CP....but you kinda have to sit down for a little bit after you see the price tag, but it makes extremely light work of very large soap batches. Not this liquid soap though - that just warrants a standard kitchen blender. :)

      Vit E is an antioxidant not a preservative, that is, it doesn't prevent bacterial growth. Helps keep oils from going rancid. The high pH should make liquid soap safe for home use without preservatives.

    When emulsifying oil into something you have to pour in little at a time because when you dump the oil in all at once it’s not going to emulsify how it’s supposed to.
